I seem to be having trouble with my IE8 browser in connecting to certain links and sometimes I have to reboot because my screen flickers. Should I install IE9 browser? Thanks

What is your operating system, fildil? You must have Vista or Windows 7 in order to be able to use IE 9.

I couldn't imagine that a browser would cause flickering, that sounds more like a driver or hardware related issue.

As to IE9, absolutely install it to see if it corrects the hyperlink problem.

Draclvr, I have Windows 7 and InlandAZ I hope that I don't really have a hardware problem. The reason I thought it was the browser is when it started flickering, I changed to the Firefox browser and the flickering wasn't there.

Do you see the flickering on your whole screen or only inside the browser window?

Gee, I don't really remember, but I do know that when I went on Facebook to play Words With Friends, the empty squares were all blued in. I rebooted and it went away.

If that's one of those flash games, make sure you've applied the latest updates.

Thanks everybody for the input. I'm going to download and install IE9 and hope that my links will work again.

Well, I downloaded the new browser but I still can't access certain sites. One of the sites is my benefits site that when I try to log in tells me that there are technical difficulties and logs me out. If I use the Firefox browser, I can log in. I don't know how this happened because I used this benefits site last month and everything was fine. Is there something that I could have done, clicked on, checked off, etc. to cause this to happen with IE browser? I suppose I could use the Firefox browser, but I'm so lazy and I know how IE works and Firefox is new to me and I can't even change the size of the text on it.

I think holding down the Control key and clicking the "+" key will increase the size of text for you in Firefox.

Some site designers do odd things sometimes, they may not be detecting you browser correctly. It happens more often than you’d think – they take a piece of JavaScript here and a piece there and all of the sudden you can’t login.

You might want to call the sites support number.

I did InlandAZ and they of course told me that the site from his end was working. I finally accessed it from the Firefox browser but it still drives me crazy that my IE browser all of a sudden decided not to work. Oh, just to mention, what started this whole thing was my failure to connect with the link given in the Adventure game forum for the unwritten tales site. Well, I still can't use the link with IE and when I go to the site using the URL and I click on Buy Now, the screen dims. Huh!

Try restoring the default settings under IE8, and see if it behaves the same - here's a how-to.

Reset Internet Explorer 8 settings

Click the Manual Reset instructions link on the page.

InlandAZ, I tried to reset but I got the message that restoring the default settings failed. Is this because I installed IE9?

If IE9 is already installed the how-to I linked to won't work.

Use these instead -

Reset Internet Explorer 9 settings

InlandAZ, thanks but that didn't work either. I guess I'm going to have to get used to Firefox. I wonder if I go to System Restore and go back 2 or more weeks, if that would change anything. What's getting me is the fact that I've been using IE since I got my computer and I don't understand what went wrong.

System restore would be worth a try, IMO.

If you don't like Firefox, try Opera. I love it. (Which is naturally the best reason to use it. lol)

I've never heard of Opera traveler, I'll give it a look-see.
