Though Easter egg hunts and chocolate bunnies are fun for children this time of year, they actually hearken back to pagan spring fertility fests and rites. (Makes sense if you've ever owned rabbits). How much do you know about the other history of this time of year?
-1. What three foods are served at the Seder? -2. How could the Israelites protect themselves from the Angel of Death? -3. What Roman governor sentenced Jesus to death? -4. Who accompanied Jesus furthest into the Garden of Gethsemane? -5. What number was the plague of the Angel of Death? -6. How many years had the Israelites been in slavery in Egypt? -7. What did Herod Antipas want from Jesus? -8. Who drew his sword to protect Jesus from the crowd in Gethsemane? -9. What was the name of the servant who he struck with his sword? -10. Why was Barabbas in prison? -11. Who was enlisted to carry Jesus' cross for him? -12. What were Jesus' first words from the cross? -13. What inscription did Pontius Pilate place on Jesus' cross? (extra kudos if you know Latin) -14. At the sixth hour of crucifixion, three hours of darkness ensued. What is this time called? -15. What is "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani"? -16. Who asked Pontius Pilate for Jesus' body for burial? -17. Who helped prepare Jesus' body for burial? -18. Who was the first person at the tomb on Sunday morning? -19. How many days did Jesus remain on earth before the Ascension?
Have a blessed Easter, Passover, or Resurrection Day! (Did I leave anyone out?)
Hints 1. The Jews left in great haste, so weren't able to have traditional bread, they were protected from death in a special way, and they suffered bitterly at the hands of Pharoah: matzah, l---, b----- h---- 14. Latin for "shadows" or "darkness"
Alea iacta est.

13. ...think it's "Iesus Nazoreum, Rex Iudorum" give or take the odd typo.
To waste one second of one's life is a betrayal of one's self. I wonder what's on television...?

Barabbas' crimes were more serious--remember, crucifixion was reserved for the worst criminals. Try again, Bernie! Everyone else, excellent answers! And to UW for resurrecting his Latin.
Alea iacta est.
