I'm pretty sure this is a non-issue, but I'd value another opinion. I downloaded A New Beginning from JA and during the install Norton had a problem with anb.exe, the main executable for the program. It said it contained a threat Suspicious.MH690.A and quarantined the file. I think that is a generic label for unknown threats, and I'm guessing I'd be fine if I took the file out of quarantine. So far the Norton network found only five other users of the program, and I don't know that it will be anytime soon before they update the status. Is this a common problem?

Hi ergggo-

I'm not sure about A New Beginning, but I remember that a bunch of us had a similar issue with downloading and installing Corrosion- Cold Winter Waiting. I know my own Norton told me I had the Suspicious.MH690.A threat. I ended up restoring it from quarantine and doing a scan exclusion on the folder where the file was kept. I don't know if this is a common problem with Norton, but I'm assuming that Norton was just being aggressive in recognizing potential threats, so guess I should expect to see more false positives as time goes on.

You should submit the file to Norton so they can correct the error.

Thanks, Ewil02. I think I will do the same thing you did. I'd like to start playing and it seems the risk is low in this instance.

I have Norton and played A New Beginning without any problem.

But I did have the problem with Corrosion.

However, it wasn't only Norton that had the problem with Corrosion !!

How long ago was that, Mad?
A Norton update could have caused the problem.

Hi smile

I uninstalled it some time ago, Jenny100, but just to check I reinstalled it 15 minutes ago and it installed and played perfectly.

I didn't disable Norton in any way and I have all the current Norton updates.

I use Norton Internet Security 2012 and my system specs are :

WinXP Home SP3
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+ MMX 3DNow ~ 2.0GHz
ATI Radeon Sapphire HD 3650 AGP
SB Live! 24-bit
2048MB RAM
DirectX 9.c

Cheers.

Mad grin

I wonder if there's been a change to the exe file then -- maybe an update in the copy "protection."

I downloaded the game from JA on 4/28/12 from JA but the ANB.EXE file was dated 4/25/12. Maybe JA had modified the file.
After taking the file out of quarantine, the game seems to run fine. The only tweak was to disable display scaling on the compatibility tab so that the screen size was correct.
Norton wants me to upload the file in question so they can check it out...is that OK given that it is part of a purchased game?

Yes it's fine. They just need to scan that one file to find out what's triggering the alarm.
