No matter what directory I try to install to, I get this error:

Okay this seams to be my disc. I downloaded a trial of the game (the free 60 minute trial) from shockwave's website and installed it and it plays right away, so I'm going to replace my disc

What version of Windows are you running? This game was first published in 2001 and the original version was not made to work with Windows 7, Vista, or even XP SP3. Download versions have likely been updated.

If you want to use an older version, try HerInteractive's instructions ***here***.

I have windows 7. The odd thing is I never had a problem with it on my vista laptop, and I had it on this windows 7 one with no issues, the issue just arrose yesterday

I am wondering if your problem might have anything to do with this?

Thanks for the link, Marian, but that wasn't my case. I was having that problem with Treasure before installing Final.

I saw a solution on yahoo answers and now it actually works

Just in case someone else has the same problem and finds this thread, what was the solution?

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, making sure the directory is C:/Program Files/Nancy Drew/Treasure Of The Royal Tower and I selected the I will install Direct X myself (or however that option is worded)
