I would like to delete my e-mail in bulk rather then one at a time. I have Win 7 with Windows Live Mail. Is there a way to do this without highlighting each and then hitting delete?

Highlight the first one, go to the bottom of the list and press the Shift key and then highlight the last one. Press Delete and you're done! Don't forget to empty the Deleted Items file.

Uh oh. Went to Windows live mail and my computer froze up. I had deleted a bunch of e-mails before I posted. Wonder what I did?

Thanks flutist for asking this and thanks Draclvr for the answer. I am also in the process of trying to purge some emails and was clicking on them one by one by one.

I've looked everywhere and I can't fine a solution for why flutist's computer is locking up with Windows Live Mail. Some posts out there mention using Norton 360 can cause a problem, but she is using Microsoft Security Essentials. Assuming she's rebooted and the same thing is happening, I'm at a loss.

oldbroad, hope it continues to work for you!

Here is what I did as a temporary fix. Went to start. Right clicked Live Mail, selected compatibility mode. selected, try recommended settings, followed the instructions and was able to get in and delete all the messages. I will probably have to do this again. I googled Windows Live Mail freezing, went to Microsoft and got this I could not find that update.

If you have the Service Pack 1 for Windows 7, you may not be able to remove KB2454826. Fortunately you found a fix. Hopefully the fix will stick.

I don't have Windows Live Mail. I use MSN and it started giving me trouble on June 4th. Emails won't download right, they stay marked as unread even after reading (once they finally do download). I have a LOT of emails so I thought I need to clean some out but they don't want to delete and when I finally get some to delete they don't want to empty out of my trash. It is being a very slow process.

Anyway, I followed the link above and then followed instructions in there how to look at installed updates and found this one of June 4th: KB2718704. Haven't tried to look it up yet to see what it is but wonder if it could have to do with my email.

MSN no longer has support through email and I just have not felt like getting on the phone to try to talk to somebody yet. When I was looking in there for the contact number and whatever else I might find it does show "cannot apply change" in my account next to email. Don't know what that means. Everything else in there said it was running properly.

You don't happen to be using MSN Explorer do you? If you are, have you tried to login to hotmail.com with your userid and password. IIRC all MSN email accounts are actually hotmail accounts.

Maybe you can delete them there.

Hi Inland. Yes, I use MSN Explorer and yes I have been in my hotmail account doing some deleting but then when I go back in MSN some of the emails I deleted in hotmail are still in my MSN mail. Also, I don't like hotmail much.

If you're logging into hotmail with your web browser (not the MSN email icon) you're deleting them from the server. That won't however remove them from your PC's inbox folder, those have to be removed seperately.

I have had the same problem with deleting my email. It seems that it will delete some but not all that I try to delete. Also I thought it odd that I didn't have to sign in, just clicked in with the MSN icon in the Toolbar and there was my mail.
I just clicked on the icon a short time ago and now I have to sign in. I know I didn't earlier because I had a problem remembering my p/w. Anyway, it appears to be working properly now.

You lost me Inland! The MSN mail has "folders on MSN" and "folders on your PC". I only have email in the MSN folders, not my PC folders as in the past I put some in my PC folders and then when I had a problem with MSN, they were no longer there. Wasn't worth my time to redo it.

Yikes! No wonder I don't use MSN mail! Way too complicated for me. I like my Gmail and my Windows Live Mail.

I'll have to check on that one, but as I recall MSN Explorer's email downloaded the messages to your PC. If you access the hotmail web site (using Internet Explorer) the messages remained on the server.

Maybe there's an option in the settings somewhere that controls how it's handled.

So if I access hotmail from MSN Explorer it's different than if I access it from Internet Explorer?

At work I accessed it from IE and read some messages which did not end up in my MSN mail, though they are still in my hotmail. I wondered why that was and if it had to do with the current problem I've been having, but maybe it is the IE vs MSN Exporer? If I use MSN Explorer to access hotmail, they will show up in my MSN mail.

At least I think this is right. I am getting confused with it all!!!

I can get in to my Win. Live Mail now. I get the user account control, click on yes and I'm in with no problems.
