Warbird Games enter the final stretch to bring stop-motion adventure game to life via Kickstarter

About Jack Houston and the Necronauts:

Quote:
Join legendary test pilot Jack Houston on the adventure of a lifetime. Set in an alternate universe heavily inspired by classic sci-fi authors and artists, Jack Houston mans a mission to Venus in 1999, only to have a terrible accident leaving him in stasis for 1000 years. When he awakes on the savage world, the life he once knew has long gone, and he heads out into the unknown.

Key features:

Old meets new – combining classic click and point adventure gameplay with amazing HD visuals, the game will feel both familiar and incredibly new to anyone who loved adventure games in the 80’s and 90’s

Rip-roaring story - join captain Jack Houston as he faces the perils of Venus in a journey that will have you travelling through space and time to seek the truth.

Story and art inspired by the masters – enjoy a truly vintage experience with a captivating story and unique art based upon esteemed sci-fi masters such as Chesley Bonestell, Robert E. Howard and Frank Frazetta.

Stop-motion animation – a unique technique that was used to create 1950s sci-fi serials such as Flash Gordon is being used to create a truly authentic experience in-game and a unique visual aesthetic

World-class soundtrack – produced by Iain Kelso, internationally acclaimed for his work on the feature movie Jacob.

A few days remain to help get the game started:

Warbird Games are in the final days of their Kickstarter campaign for Jack Houston and the Necronauts, a classic adventure game using stop-motion animation to create a unique visual style. Currently sitting at $53,435, the team needs just $2,565 more to make this pulp sci-fi adventure a reality.

Lead developer and founder of Warbird Games, Stacy Davidson is a game developer and film producer, best known for his Star Wars fan project, Han Solo Adventures. Jack Houston and the Necronauts has been two years in gestation and was born from Stacy’s love for old sci-fi movies of the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s, of which he has a large collection.

Backers who donate a minimum of $15 not only receive the finished game, but they will also receive access to exclusive pre-release beta sections of the game. A series of stretch goals have also been introduced, which include additional platforms and languages:
•At $70k
- adding French, Italian, German & Spanish language versions
•At $80k
- more artwork, including stop-motion creatures will appear in-game
•At $90k
- a full time Unity programmer will be hired and development will switch to the Unity 4 engine. The game will be then released for iPad, Mac, Linux and Android Tablet platforms as well as PC
•At $100k - the developers will extend the story with an entire new tier of subplots

Highlights:
•Point-and-click adventure set in a thrilling retro-sci-fi universe
•Story and art inspired by classic sci-fi authors and movies
•Stop-motion animation used to create authentic 1950s sci-fi movie experience
•Soundtrack composed by internationally acclaimed composer Iain Kelso
•Kickstarter campaign closes at 3am GMT on Friday 10th August, 2012

There's a second playable character and she (!) looks lovely and, for once like a real person (as someone else said: "a female character that has breasts smaller than her bubble helmet! It's very refreshing :)" wink )

I'll be back, one day, when I feel like it.
