I've read both game lists twice, and find no mention of the 3 origanal games. Does that mean none of them will play on W7?
I have the (un-opened) 10th Anniversary DVD Edition, and wonder if they were made late enough to work.
Don't want to open the box if so.

Somehow the paperwork for the W7 got lost in the wind, and my son is on the road again, I would be delighted if someone could tell me how to put this (&%$%# 7 in XP mode. Seems like the three months I was (out of service ?) this summer, my brain ate up what little knowledge learned over the years.

granny, you can't put it in XP mode. If you have Windows 7 Home Premium, it does not support XP mode. If you have Windows 7 Pro, you can download a version of XP which will run in a virtual environment. It does not support 3D and is not meant for games, but rather was included for business applications that still needed XP.
I could not get my Myst Masterpiece Edition to run on Windows 7 without a lot of tweaking. It is mentioned down at the bottom of the Windows 7 and Games post in the section on "Games that won't play or require a lot of tweaking."

According to the GOG versions. Myst Masterpiece, Riven, Myst V: End of Ages and Uru: Complete Chronicles are compatible with Windows 7. Real Myst does not have it listed.
The 10th Anniversary was released in 2003 and may not play with Win7. Maybe someone with an opened game and has Windows 7 can give it a try. I believe the 10th Anniversary was released with a different QuickTime release than the originals.

You could try using 3D-Analyze in Virtual PC/XP Mode. It's supposed to emulate 3D accelerated graphics. http://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/tools/3d_analyze/index.phpHowever the requirements for graphics memory for RealMyst are 16 MB and Virtual PC/XP Mode only supplies 8GB. So Myst IV and V won't work in XP Mode/Virtoal PC. If you want to try XP Mode, you can get it here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspxAnd here's a site that tells how to install it. http://windowssecrets.com/top-story/using-windows-7s-xp-mode-step-by-step/I'd recommend using Windows 98 inside of Virtual PC instead of XP Mode. That way you can keep your VM's (and QuickTime versions) separate. Myst Masterpiece and Riven do not require any hardware acceleration and I think Myst III has an option for software acceleration, so those three should work in Virtual PC with Windows 98. The copy "protection" may be a problem though. However I don't think you're going to get any of those games going on Windows 7 without a lot of fuss.

All of the above are the way to go. However, I could not even run the GOG Myst in 64-bit Windows 7 even thought they said I could. There is a solution posted in the thread about how to solve that though.
I think you're right about those 10th anniversary editions, Greyfuss.
Keep in mind you need to have Windows 7 Pro to download and use XP Mode.

Because you have Windows 7 Home Premium, you cannot run the XP Mode which is only available in Window 7 Pro and above. There is a way to use a virtual environment to run XP, but you must have a legal copy of the XP operating system.
So, you should try the fix mentioned in the Windows 7 and Games thread (down at the bottom of the post) and the links that Jenny gave you.

Ah, you didn't say this was a laptop. You don't have a monitor, just a screen, so you won't be able to make the changes to monitor setting as Jenny suggested.
If you're changing the resolution using Windows 7, you would need to set it to a LOWER resolution, not a higher resolution.

Wouldn't it be great if they could remake the old games like the Myst series by only improving on the graphics and keeping true to the story and the environment.
