Hi, I'm having a problem picking up the dictionary to translate the notes. I pick up the note then the dictionary,but it doesn't stay with the curser. What am I doing wrong ? Thanks

Hi Dusty,
If the note is in inventory, keep it there. Pick up the dictionary and click that on the note in inventory and it should translate. For anything else, likewise, click the dictionary directly onto it.

I can't recall, but is there maybe more than one book in inventory, or perhaps a few notes, and you're possibly picking up/using the wrong ones? The big trouble with the Nancy Drew games is that the inventory is so small, and the items so tiny and poorly labelled. Double check to be sure that you're trying to translate the correct notes.
For the furnace -- the doors might not be fully open. Open the left metal door first (the one with the sign), and then the right side door, and that should let you use the tongs on the lever.
