michelle rose, yes! manxman, "track" goes with "side" but not "bed". The word I'm looking for +bed will get you reverse points.

Spot on, Pandora! Lex, maybe it's different where you are, but on this side of the pond students are often assigned "seatwork" - that is, lessons to be done while seated at their desks. Thanks everyone.
