Hi, I'm posting here because my question has nothing to do with games. But I always get good, helpful answers here.
I got my daughter a used TomTom. I would like to update the maps on it. I saw some free map downloads for GPS's. Has anybody ever used the free ones ?
Did you have good luck with them ?

maryjo, I never used a GPS other than the one on my Iphone so I can't help you.

Yes, TomTom has a site to upgrade their GPS's maps. The cost depends on how old the maps in the GPS are.
But I noticed some sites offer free upgrades. One was powered by Map Quest, there were some others too. They all require you to download a toolbar. To download the maps, then I guess you would load then into the GPS. Would like to upgrade the maps on the GPS for free. :]]] Was hoping someone had tried the free ones. Thanks maryjo

I don't have any experience with downloading free GPS updates, but the word "toolbar" chills my blood. Toolbars are the bane of my computer fixing life. My rule of thumb for people is NO TOOLBARS. I do use one for my Roboform Password Manager, but that's it.

If it was my Tom Tom, I would get the maps from the source to be sure you were safe. When we got one for our German family when they visit us, we paid a little extra up front for lifetime free map upgrades.

Hopefully someone will have some experience with these free GPS upgrades. Maybe they're fine, but if you decide to try it, get rid of that toolbar ASAP.
