Back in the midwest I was able to find and purchase very easily these canned fruit fillings for Kolacky's - helped my best friend years ago make them for Christmas and some on my own as well. However, now I live in No. CA and it seems no store here has ever heard of Kolacky's or the Solo canned fillings, cannot find them anywhere. Is it possible for me to substitute a fruit preserve (like strawberry) for the fruit filling? Or would it be too thin and runny even if it is a thick homemade-like preserve? Thanks for any help. Haven't done any cookie baking for many years now but want to participate in our church's cookie exchange this time around. Happy Holidays

My mother always made Kolaches/Kolackys with her own fruit preserves. I still have her recipe and it calls for peach or apricot preserves. I looked at Allrecipes.com and almost all the recipes call for preserves.

Thanks D. That is helpful about Solo - unfortunately our Safeway stores do not carry it and I have to still check out Raley's. Would most be interested in the Almond flavor (paste?) - will probably use the Strawberry and Apricot preserves I picked up the other day. Thanks much
