I'm going nuts.
I'm trying to get help for my Internet phone service and the only way I can get is is by using the Internet.
Each time I click on the Live Chat tech support link, I get a notice that the server cannot be accessed.
I'm relatively sure it's something on my computer stopping the connection but WHAT?
I don't think it's Malwarebytes.
It's not my Hosts file.
It doesn't appear to be Ghostery.
It happens no matter what browser I use.
Has anyone got any idea what it might be and what I can do about it?

Gil.

If you got onto the Internet sufficiently to see any links and one specific link gives that error, it normally means that the link is off line not that there is a problem with your own service.

So, why do you think there is a problem with your Internet phone service? What are the symptoms? what error messages, if any, are you seeing? Can you try a different phone number to connect to the Internet as that can change your connection performance?

The Live Chat might be affected by the recent update to Java (version 7 update 51) if the chat uses Java (as many things on the Internet do). If that's the case, go into Control Panel, double-click Java, go to the Security tab, click the "Edit Site List" button, click Add, type the URL that the Live Chat uses (including the http or https part) in the box, click Add again, ignore any warnings, and OK out of it. Then try the chat again.

We use an OBi100 with Google Voice (free) as a backup phone.

Jenny,

I tried editing Java and it didn't work. I'm at my wits end.
The OBi100 is an actual phone?
Or do you plug it into your phone?
It doesn't look like one and I'm totally lost with this sort of thing.

Gil.

It's not a phone itself.
You attach a phone to it.
It allows you to have a second Internet phone.

Here's a review of the OBi100.

It's still not as reliable in an emergency as the old telephone system we had years ago before the phone companies started pushing everyone toward Internet phones. Back then the power could be out for days and we'd still have a phone. Now we're totally cut off when that happens. But there have been times when we were very glad to have the OBi100 as a backup -- when the Internet was working but the phone from our ISP was not.

Jenny,
Thank you so much.
I am definitely looking into the OBi100 come payday.
The phone I have is great but when you need it the tech support is non-existent.
(The price on the OBi100 is really good!)

Gil.
