Oh, man... Be still my heaving gut! This is not a game for those prone to motion sickness.

The game certainly seems to have won the lad over, something it never did for me. Ive tried a few of them because I always feel it's something I aught to like but I just never do. I suppose if this version is cheap enough I might give it another go.

I suppose if this version is cheap enough I might give it another go I suppose. It's currently $17.99 for either the Steam or Mac versions. The option for pseudo-point-and-click may be less motion-sickness-inducing than the keyboard control. But I don't do Steam so would wait for a DRM-free version anyway.

SuMac let me know how long it takes to download and how it plays on your Mac. I'm not sure it will run on my new IMac.

Kaki's Sister, I don't know what video card is in your iMac. All the current 27-inch iMacs have Nvidia video cards that meet the system requirements. However one of the 21.5-inch models has "Intel Iris Pro" graphics that probably do not meet the game's requirements. You should be able to find out what your video card is by clicking the Apple logo in the upper left of your screen, then "About this Mac," then "More info...," then check the Graphics listing in the Hardware section. Or if the Mac is running OS X "Lion" (10.7) or later, you may have to click the "System Report" button after clicking "More Info..." I'm a little concerned about buying the game for my 5+ year old iMac. Although my iMac's video card meets the specs, I am concerned about the cooling. I bought ***this 3D Mahjong game*** and it made my iMac's fans roar so loudly it was hard to believe. They never made such a racket before. I checked internal temperature with iStat and the video card was over 90°C! I never ran that game again. It's not worth risking a video card burnout in an iMac, where you can't replace the video card easily. So I'm a little leery about running any 3D app on this iMac that might stress the video card. It's possible that Mahjong game was just badly made, or has a problem with my particular video card, but who knows. Unfortunately there is no demo for the Mac version of the game that I can find, so I can't see if it would have the same problem. You say your iMac is new, so it may not have the same problems as mine does. But anyone with an older iMac may want to be careful -- wait for some reviews or a demo.

Jenny100 these are my specs. iMac with a 21.5 inch screen, OSX 10.9, 2.7 GHz, Intel Core i5, 8GB, 1600MHZ, DDR3 and a NVGeForce GT640M,512 MB. Do you think this will work okay with the game?

It's currently $17.99 for either the Steam or Mac versions.
I'll wait till it drops to a fiver. Bit steep for a game Ive already got a few times.

I downloaded the game last night; took approximately 4 1/2 hours with DSL. I started at 8:15 and 3 hours later 1 GB had downloaded. I'm assuming it finished about 1 1/2 later while I was asleep. It was all installed when I got up this morning and I've been playing it on and of all day. My iMac is about a year old and a half old, and its running OS Maverick.
I started in the Free Roam version, but it was too much motion for me, so I switched to the Classic Myst point & click and there's still plenty of movement, but more controlled. I slowed the mouse movement down to the slowest setting and it working really well.
I know $17.99 seems expensive, but when I think of all the boxed games I've purchased for %20.00 or more, it seemed like a bargain. With the Apple Apps store, even if I delete it after I'm done, I can always download it again for free.

SuMac thanks for the update on the game. It sounds like my iMac is about the same as yours. I am also running OSX 10.9 Maverick. Please let me know how well it plays as you progress. Thanks. Thanks Jenny100. It sounds like I will be able play. I will check out the Forums on cylan. Thanks again.

real myst gives more roaming movement on the island , where masterpiece you can only travel in a set path. I had the disk version of masterpiece but then purchased real myst from gog
here is a better explanation from a post back in 2006
Myst ----- The game was originally released in 1993 (on CD's) and is therefore somewhat primitive by today's standards. It uses a "point/click/go there" navigation system, in which you interact with the game through a series of static, pre-rendered images (although you can look around within an image) to solve puzzles and advance in the game. The "point/click/go there" navigation system means that it's not a real-time graphics game like Myst V, in that you move from place to place on a zap-to-a-new-location basis instead of walking to the new location in real time.
realMyst -------- It's essentially the same game - the puzzles are the same and the Linking Books are the same, and it's still on CD's - but there's an additional Age called Rime. The primary attraction of this release is a new 3D engine, with real-time graphics, freedom of movement, and relatively dynamic environments, much like Myst V. The benefits of the new engine are limited to the visuals, however, and the downside is that on some PC's, the engine runs slowly and causes the game to drag.
Myst Masterpiece Edition ------------------------ This release is a remastering of the original game, with 24-bit color graphics, 16-bit sound, and full compatibility with Windows XP. The music has been digitally remastered and new sound effects added. Color is much better than the original, and the movies and animations are larger and higher-quality. A DigitalGuide in-game help system has been added, with the level of help ranging from broad hints to specific solutions. Also included is Myst: The Book of Atrus, a prequel written by Myst designers Rand and Robyn Miller, which explains the background underlying the Myst world. The original "point/click/go there" navigation is still used, however. Myst Masterpiece Edition is part of the Myst 10th Anniversary DVD Edition, which also contains Riven: Sequel to Myst and Myst III: Exile.
IMHO, your best value is the Myst 10th Anniversary DVD Edition, since you also get Riven and Exile. But if you want real-time animation and don't want "point/click/go there" navigation, your only choice is realMyst. It's currently available on eBay, Amazon, et al.
