I have a question about Memento Mori 2. I am experiencing a significant lag, even though I believe my system exceeds the recommended requirements. I have tried turning down the settings, and while it helps somewhat, there are still times when it takes several minutes for the game to complete what should be a five second scene. It also takes quite some time for Max to simply walk across the room.

According to Steam, the recommended (not minimal) requirements are:

OS: Microsoft Windows® XP SP2 or newer
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz or dual core AMD XP or better
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics: 256MB graphics card (Shader Model 2.0 compatible)
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Hard Drive: 2 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

My computers specs are as follows:

OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II x6 1045T Processor 2.70 GHz
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6450
DirectX: 11 (I also have 9 installed, as many of my adventure games use it as well.)

My hard drive has plenty of space, and my sound card is more than sufficient. I looked up the specs for my graphics card, and though it's far from being the best, it exceeds what is called for with 512 MB and is Shader Model 5 compatible. I am planning on getting a slightly better card as Dreamfall Chapters is coming out (even though my current one just barely meets the recommended requirements) but I'm not sure if that's what my problem is anyway. I remember having a similar problem with Memento Mori 1, but as the lag was minimal, I just put up with it. Could it possibly be an incompatibility with the engine they use and my computer?

I've searched the web, but it doesn't appear as though anyone else is having this issue. So if anyone has had a similar experience or has any suggestions, that would be most welcome. smile

I don't really know what's wrong, but is it possible you have an antivirus that's scanning the game as it tries to run?

You could see if using Steam's "offline mode" makes a difference.

Another thing to try might be different video card drivers (not necessarily newer ones).

You could also try posting in the Steam forum in case someone there has ideas.

Thanks for the suggestions, Jenny. Unfortunately, I tried disabling my virus scanner and going offline as you suggested and neither worked. I even went all the way down to 800 x 600 resolution which made the game look terrible, and it didn't help anyway. The area where it gets so bad I can't do anything is after Max gets in his Beetle and goes to the gallery. There, he and Lara start to move like they are underwater, and I wonder if the game is even capable of moving beyond that point. I haven't stuck around to find out, as the game is unplayable this way even if they do eventually get to their destination.

As to different drivers, which do you recommend? I did order a new graphics card that's a little better than the one I have, a Sapphire Radeon R7 240. It should be here within a few days, and I may see if it makes a difference. I don't have much hope, however, as my current card is already above the recommended requirements and way above the minimal requirements, but it never hurts to try it out. I also may ask Thorsgoats if I can try it on his computer, as it may be an incompatibility with my system. Do you know if this game uses Securom or any other copy protection? Steam of course never lists anything like that on their site, and I don't see any comments about it on their forum. I'm guessing it probably doesn't, but if it does, maybe that's the issue.

In any case, if it turns out the new graphics card doesn't help, I'll go ahead and ask my question on Steam as well. In the meantime if you or anyone else have any other suggestions, I'd be willing to try them out. smile

I would ask the question on Steam anyway - they can take up to 4 days to answer and this is a holiday weekend. I'd get in line for an answer from them.

Hi, Draclvr. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I've actually not had the time for much gaming (or posting) these past few days, and it turned out it wasn't necessary anyway, as the new graphics card actually worked. happydance I just got it installed today, and the game runs perfectly at the all the highest settings. So who knows, maybe it was just an incompatibility with that particular card. Whatever the case, I'm happy I can now play my game on my own computer, and I don't have to borrow Thorsgoats'. Hopefully Dreamfall Chapters will also follow suit when its first episode is released. grin

According to this
http://www.hwcompare.com/15166/radeon-hd-6450-oem-1gb-vs-radeon-r7-240/

the R7 240 is a lot faster.
So that could explain it.

I'd guess that Jenny is correct - the new video card is much faster and that's probably the reason.
