Hi I just bought this game and downloaded it, on Win 8 and
it feels like I am bouncing all over the screen with little control.
I tried to go into the controls for the game and mouse adjustment it didnt make much difference,
I have another pc with win 7 on it, not sure if that would make a difference, I was looking
forward to this game, but not sure I could get anywhere with the mouse and view bouncing all over the place?
thanks for your help ,
Marcia

It sounds like your video card does not meet the game's recommended system requirements. If you don't know what your video card is, the video card is almost certainly the problem.

Mouse adjustment won't do anything because the problem isn't with the mouse -- it's with the graphics card being too slow to redraw the screen. You need to turn down or turn off graphics enhancements in the game's options menu. If your video card only meets the minimum requirements, you have to turn graphics enhancements all the way down and may have to put up with some jerking.

One site that lists minimum vs recommended requirements is *** Games Debate ***.
They list not only "officially" recommended requirements, but their own recommended requirements, which may be different from the official recommendation.

Does your Windows 7 computer have a better (faster) video card?

If you're unsure how to check - follow the link below.

Run DirectX Diagnostic Tool

Once it completes - post the information from the Display Tab.

Thanks for the advice on playing the game with what may be an inferior video card. I've been able to play with the settings turned down.

I am currently stuck trying to leave the mine having solved the mine murders. I'm at an entrance which is partly blocked by a timber beam. Can't seem to get over it, under it or round it. The walkthroughs don't help and there isn't anything obvious to push or hold. Can anyone help?

I suggest that you post your question over in the Adventure Game Hints forum, as there might be an Ethan Carter player there who could help.
