Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/23/06 08:52 PM

This game gets a mixed review from me. Good puzzles- interesting and made you think, but not too difficult for any age or manual dexterity. However, there are not too many people to "investigate"- and lots of "clues" go absolutely nowhere! To not spoil the game, Jing Jing's books, and being tricked by Minette, Heather's note, Dieter's interest in the Windmill and last but not least Minette's reason for the mask. BLEH! Seems like the developers lost a good idea and turned it rather cartoonish. It was nice that it had two possible endings, and a very useful Easter Egg, but overall, NOT the culprit or suspense I expected. So to quote Roger Ebert- I give it a mild thumbs up.

Donnakaren, thanks for your thoughts on this.

Did you see both endings?

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/23/06 11:31 PM

I did! I played twice so I could help another member with a saved game when MaG was gone and finished the game. When you are done with your game, I can tell you what to do, or not to do, to get the alternate ending.

Thanks, That would be great! I love to see all the endings--so I will take you up on that as I progress wave

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/24/06 11:43 PM

There are two endings? I finished the game and found it realatively easy for the most part; and I would have to agree that there are many clues that turn nowhere.
I have played every Nancy Drew game and this was not my favorite, but it was ok.

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/24/06 11:52 PM

Hi Donna,

I'm still playing it.

What could they have changed to make it one of your favorites?
Posted By: howlingwolf

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/25/06 12:21 AM

The fact that there was minimal interaction with many of the characters of the game for one. Many of the so called suspects were relatively easy to figure out and the ending (which I will not spoil for you here). Once you have finished the game you will know what I'm talking about.

Yes- I sent you an email explaining so I don't spoil anyone's game!

I am also a Nancy Drewaholic and was not impressed by this game that much, but it will not stop me from buying the next one either.

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/30/06 04:51 PM

When I heard that the latest Nancy Drew was coming out I had mixed feelings about purchasing it. I've played all the games but have been unable to finish too many of them because of timed puzzles (especially the final puzzle). For example I never was able to finish Blackmore Manor even though I thought it was an excellent game. I couldn't finish Secrets of Shadow Ranch either. When I wanted to replay Blue Moon Canyon I couldn't get past the game where you try to get the prospector up a mountain before a Yeti. There are so many more examples. So I've decided to stop buying ND games anymore. It's just too disappointing when I can't finish a game. frown

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/30/06 09:18 PM

I couldn't finish Old Clock- I am not that dexterous with a mouse and you had to maneuver the car too quickly. It is frustrating to keep trying to no avail. You might want to try this new one, however- there are only 2 timed puzzles, and if you follow directions in MaG's w/t for them they are not too difficult to complete. It was fun, but not spectacular. Maybe you have a friend you can borrow the game from?

A lot of people complained to Her Interactive regarding some of the puzzles in the Haunted Carousel- they were very difficult to complete (the arcade games) A lot of older people play these games, and I would imagine that people with disabilities do too, and I think they have become a little more sensitive to these factors. smile

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/31/06 12:37 AM

TuesdayNext, you can always get a saved game to get you past the parts you can't do. Seems a shame to not finish because of one part.

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/31/06 03:18 PM

Ana, saved games are great but if the person sending the save played the game differently than the person needing the same you either end up trying to catch or worse, the save is farther ahead in the game and then you lose the fun of playing certain parts. This happened to me when I was playing Sherlock Holmes Rose Tattoo. I was able to get a save for that horrible dart game (in my opinion the hardest puzzle there is - even worse than Still Life's Laser puzzle). I think Len Green may have sent it to me. That game is very non-linear and he had done many things I hadn't done and I had to redo some of the things he hadn't done. I was grateful for the save but it was unfortunate that I wasn't able to play the entire game. Worse, I think it was one of the best games I have ever played.

Donnakaren - Maybe I'll give it a try one of these days, but wasn't this the game that was breaking up?

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/31/06 03:29 PM

One answer is to send your saved game to the person offering to help, have them do the part you need help with, and then have them send back the saved game containing the completed puzzle you needed help with.

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/31/06 08:38 PM

Tuesday Next: I don't know what you mean by breaking up- I know some people removed the cd's incorrectly and the cd broke, but I had absolutely no problems with game play (running) or with cd's breaking. When I get the game back from my daughter, I would be happy to mail it to you to try! Just let me know!
Posted By: looney4labs

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 07/31/06 08:54 PM

Thanks Mr Lipid for that suggestion. It is a good one!

I know some folks broke the disc trying to get it out of the holder, but I liked the way you just pushed down on the middle stem and it popped down and the CD popped up.

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/01/06 05:55 PM

MrLiped - that's a great suggestion except what if the person was only able finish the puzzle that one time after lots of trial and error? I don't know if you've every played The Case of the Rose Tattoo's dart game but it is the kind of game that makes you want to throw your computer out of the window - maybe even the printer, the monitor and all the other little do-dads attached to your computer. Since your opponent always get a bulls eye, and therefor a perfect score, the only way to win is to get a perfect score also - and it ain't easy!

Donnakaren - if you were able to do that it would be great. You could just email me instead of posting. Maybe there's something I could send you to try.

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/01/06 07:56 PM

Tuesday, I think the person offering to play through the section would be comfortable with that section before offering to do it. Or, maybe they enjoyed that section and don't mind the time spent laugh

I have played through sections for a couple of folks but only on those puzzles that I had found the trick for-- wave
Posted By: MrLipid

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/01/06 08:39 PM

Also, the person offering assistance in getting past a section may be able to get there by editing the saved game (!) rather than actually beating the puzzle. wink

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/01/06 09:46 PM

Ok, I'm going to replay Case of the Rose Tattoo (when I can understand inferno's installation instructions) and I'll be asking you two if you can help!

p.s. I seem to have this terrible habit of hijacking topics. Sorry about that Donnakaren.

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/03/06 06:16 PM

Must admit having just finished, I have to agree with all your comments. I enjoyed the experience, but it was not as logical or fluid as some of the earlier games. Too much time spent shopping. Plus an underwater maze... ugh that got me of course!!!

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/03/06 09:44 PM

I agree also with the comments! To many NANCY DREW games not able to finish!I had trouble with the decoder in D.W.D typed those numbers in I don't fknow how many times rolleyes finally gave up and uninstalled it today!!!
Posted By: looney4labs

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/03/06 10:17 PM

Tigger, wasn't that fun!

Cailyn, I'm sorry you were not able to finish. did you ask for a saved game in hints?
Posted By: cailyn

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/04/06 01:15 AM

No I didn't ask for a save only because I don't know how to send saves or receive them. I have tried but for some reason just can't grasp the procedure, and MaG gives good directions on how to do it.Hopefully I'll figure it out one of these day's rolleyes wave Thank You Looney4labs

Cailin, you mean the roman numerals??? There are dials at the bottom half of the decoder which need setting before you use it... or if you mean the last decoder puzzle... put the numbers under the letters in the message and then count so many from that letter ie a + 3 = D... then type in the revised note...
Posted By: cailyn

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/04/06 09:50 AM

Yes Tigger,I know about the dials I had them set right,I just lost patience with typeing the letter's over and over! And nothing happening I was careful about the zero's and O's.Maybe I'll try it again in a week or two,so I take it that there is another decoder puzzle after this one frown Tigger I see you are playing ZOO 2 many times I have picked this up in a store, then put back down again!Do you like the game? And what is it like? thanks

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/07/06 12:23 PM

I gotta say I really liked this ND- if only for the fact that I was able to play on Senior Detective and finished the whole thing without any hints! I hate those silly ways the ND games have of getting from one place to another (that darn car RUINED Old Clock for me) so it was cool to see the map incorporated into a puzzle.
Posted By: looney4labs

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/07/06 01:58 PM

That was a nice touch wave

I wonder if that metro map was a copy of a real one from Paris?
Posted By: TuesdayNext

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/14/06 10:02 PM

I hate to say this but I thought the game was awful. Making parfaits AND cookies? Five timed puzzles: the online game, the clock puzzle, the bomb, underwater mazes, and the fight scene. Running after cockroaches. I thought the fashion designer puzzle was silly. I thought there weren't enough real puzzles. The puzzle in the park with the faces, pinwheel and fish was good, fixing the plotter - I'm sure there were others. I couldn't finish the game - AGAIN - because of the timed fighting sequence at the end.

Each time I play a ND game I become more and more disappointed and frustrated. But, of course, I'll buy the next one when it comes out and hope for the best.

Tuesday, I enjoyed the puzzle in the park also. It was quite clever.

It is always sad when a game you looked forward to does not live up to your expectations.

Maybe the next one will take a different track. wave

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/15/06 05:14 PM

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/18/06 12:20 AM

What ticked me off the most about the game is not being able to play the other 3 online games under the matching game. Why have them there at all if you can't play them?

I love Nancy Drew and believe the game was worth the money but will admit that it was nowhere near as challenging as all of the previous 13 games.

I also didn't know there was 2 endings. Can someone email me or something and let me know how to get them? Thanks in advance.
Posted By: Rushes

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/18/06 03:02 PM

jldcat, you can reach a slightly different ending depending on whether or not you get Heather fired. I haven't played this alternate ending yet. smile
Posted By: looney4labs

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/18/06 05:50 PM

Jldcat, I wanted to play those games too laugh I think they were just there to give the computer screen an authentic look though.

Rushes is correct about the ending. If you get her fired you get one element of the ending slightly different than if you don't get her fired. But it is not a big difference.

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/25/06 12:31 AM

I just finished it and it was not my favorite either. I guess I missed some of those Nancy Drew stand-bys: investigating secret passages and things that go bump in the night, mysterious "accidents" and so on. The spookiness factor was just missing for me.
Posted By: looney4labs

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/25/06 01:05 AM

Well, there was the hidden room at the photographers house. But, no spookiness factor that I found.

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/25/06 11:57 PM

I finished it earlier today and was not that impressed. Really, after such a long wait I expected more. It was just so anti-climatic. Nothing was really much of a challenge until the end and that was because I'm not that good at moving the mouse fast enough. I'm hoping the next one will be better.

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/26/06 01:35 AM

You are right Looney, one hidden passage! However, I would have liked for her to have heard some creaking footsteps while she was down there like somebody was spying on her rotfl

I agree. I was sure there was a hidden lever to open another passage or something like that.

I happen to Love this game.

First I thought it was different from the other Nancy games.

I most liked the swimming thing........There were some Stupid things like making cookies & parfiets............but who cares it was Nancy Drew

I thought the game was more involved then previous games..I still give this game (3) thumbsup thumbsup thumbsup

Re: Nancy Drew Danger By Design : SPOILERS - 08/29/06 04:30 PM

My favorite thing was the diversity...........Doing different puzzles.

I liked the painting thing to make money. The park was fun with all the different tables to buy things.
My most Favorite had to be catching those roaches ewwwwwwwww eek

Edit: I soooo agree about the painting. Two pictures got boring after awhile.

I thought the painting was fun the first time I did it, but would liked to have had a greater variety of pictures to paint.

I painted a lot lol
