OK, and here I thought it was King's Quest 6: Heir Today - Gone tomorrow? since there is a spellbook in the game...
Ok, here's the next clue then for the next game:
This game is part of a series that first started as a series in a an era many many years ago....before the internet was born.
I would say that that the theme for this game was
LOVE

The love theme is perhaps more spiritual as the ending unifies an universal symbol for love into another symbol.
bonus clue:
to progress in this game you need to avoid an explosion in a tank.
