I am now at the volcano and just starting out in the train. I've fixed the switching box post and am back at the intersection. I cannot get the compass to remain and also I cannot get the train to move around to another tunnel. I keep cranking the handle but the train does not move. How do I get the compass to show directions and how can I get the train to rotate? I've been to Tom Sr's WTand others. they just say to do these actions but don't say how, unless this is just another cursor/mouse problem. I seem to have that a lot in this game.

Hi Mary,

Just click on the compass in inventory; it should go up into one corner and remain open.

I'm assuming when you say "intersection" you're referring to the turntable. Around the edge of the turntable you'll see 4 gearboxes. There is what looks like a small wooden post next to one of these boxes. Open a door on it and turn the crank inside clockwise; this will rotate the turntable 90

I discovered that what I thought was the compass was not. Now I'm using the real compass and it works as it should. Also learned how to turn the lever to move the train. However I cannot seem to keep the walkway up in the lava pit. I click on the umbrella to raise it but cannot use the pin correctly. I may not be using the right item. I've tried both a cylindrical object and a vaguely u-shaped pipelike object but neither seems to work. What now?

Mary,

While we wait for Tom to give us his expertise - here's what Crash said about this part:

Look at the broken bridge. Use your umbrella to hook it back (you have to use your umbrella from your purse or else you could only open the umbrella not using it). Quickly attach the small hook on the bridge so it won't loose again. This small hook is at the right edge of the broken bridge. Move forward and pull the lever to lift the machine. Get inside the machine and pull the right lever down to lower it.

Mary, it sounds like you're trying to use an item from inventory on that walkway but that's not what's needed. There's a small latch on the right edge of the walkway that you need to click on.

It's so simple when you know what you're doing. Now I cannot seem to get Amanda out of her cage. I turn the valves on both pipes ,push levers and oush the button but no combination seems to work. When I turn the valve on the upright pipe, there is no sound. Turning the valve on the pipe on the left produces a steam sound. When I pull the lever and turn around, the magnet does not move (I'm assuming it's the funnel shaped thing over a square box the rocks come from). Did I not turn the right dials back in the lava steam room? How can I get that magnet to move?

Mary, the pipe and controls on the left are for the gate across the train track. You need to be using the ones on the right. If the gauge rises when you turn the valve, you're in business; if not, go back to the steam room and open (turn to the left) the 3rd valve from the left.

Back with Amanda, pulling the lever moves the magnet toward the rocks; pushing it moves it toward Amanda. It takes several pushes or pulls to move it the whole distance. Before you get it moving it's directly over your head so you can't see it until you move it.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more help with it after you get it moving.

I went back and turned the dial in the steam room which made the dial move in the rock room. But I still cannot see the magnet and can't tell if it's over a rock. What am I missing? Should I see it over the conveyor belt? This is worse than the arrows in the lava pit. I appreciate your help. Tom Sr.

Hi Mary,

The magnet is behind you when you're facing the control panel and Amanda. You have to turn around 180 deg to see the magnet. Push the red button on the control panel to get the magnet to pick up a rock. It takes a lot of facing the panel, button, turn around to look to see if the magnet picked a rock.

Mary, that control lever is a little tricky since it moves both directions. You have to click and drag it the direction you want; pull it toward you to move the magnet toward the conveyor. I think you automatically turn toward the conveyor when you pull the lever. Then you have to turn back toward Amanda and pull the lever again to move the magnet the rest of the way.

I"M not having any luck. There must be something else I have not yet done. Could there be something else in the steam room that is not set correctly? If I can't get it this time, I quit.

If the gauge rises when you turn the valve, you have steam pressure; that's all you can do in the steam room. We're talking about the pipe and controls on the right; the one's on the left are completely separate although they need pressure too.

Turn that right valve to the left so the gauge rises (clockwise direction). Now, all you have to do is operate the lever. Click and drag it toward you. You should see a cut scene looking in the other direction and watching the magnet move from over your head toward the conveyor along the far wall. Now turn back toward Amanda and pull that lever toward you again to see another cut scene with the magnet going the rest of the way to the conveyor.

Turn back toward Amanda and push the red button to pick up a chunk of iron ore with the magnet (all the rocks are not iron ore so not all of them are magnetic).

I am grateful for your extreme patience with me on this game. After reading what you said, I went back and played with the wheel and was able to get the cut scenes and now have Amanda in my backpack. The rest of the game should be ok (fingers crossed). I never could have gotten thru this without your help. Thanks.
