I just bought the Myst Anniversary CD collection. I started playing and decided to quit a game I did save as I was going along. When I later tried to go and pick up where I left off, I couldn't figure out how to access my saved game. I can save or save as, but how do you play the saved game? Under file, there's new and restore game. Nowhere does it allow you to play a saved game. I'm sorry, but not everybody can sit down and play a game from start to finish. If you go out and come back in, it goes back to the beginning. I know because I tried. If you do restore, it goes to a totally new place. I'm sure where. Also, is there a way to get past the intro each time?

I'm really confused, Kszanz, because you don't use "save as" in saving a game, and they won't be under "file". You access the saves from within the game--have you looked at your game folder to see if they are even there?

If no-one else has a solution for you, when I get a few minutes, I'll install my copy and see how the saves work. It's been so long since I played that I haven't the faintest idea...

When you go under File while in the game (go to top of screen until it appears), you can select New, Restore Game, Save or Save As (if you want more than more version). Nowhere can I find out where you use a saved game. I've tried everything I've used on other games I played and can't find anything that works. If you're out of the game and look in the saved games folder, you can see the saved game. However, you cannot launch it from there.

When you launch the game, it will go through the introduction and then come back to the very beginning just like when you launched it for the first time. Why in the world can't I find my saved game?

I have read all of the instructions for playing the game and even tried to get this information from the vendor's website. Nowhere does anyone indicate how to do this.

I sure hope you can help because I am totally stumped.

I'm not sure if I am understanding the problem <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" /> but if you're trying to load a previously saved game - use the Restore Game feature. think

I just dug out my game and this is what the manual says about restoring a saved game: "Choosing 'Restore Game' will open the standard Windows 'Open' dialog box. Simply navigate to the location of your saved game, select the game you would like to restore and click 'OK'. Restoring a game links you back to a saved Age of Myst. You always return to an Age at the location where you first entered. The items in the Age will be restored just as you left them, so you can take off where you left off..."

I had used restore, but it didn't have me find my file and open it. All it did was bring in a new window in the book. Do you mean to tell me that was what it was doing and I just didn't know it? Boy, I feel so dumb. I'm so used to the system making me finding a saved game. Since it looked totally different than where I started, I was totally confused.

Thanks so much. This old dingbat will try again tonight. I just do not know what I would do without all of you. You do not know how much you are appreciated! You are absolutely fabulous!!!

This reply is for kszanz. I too have the anniversary edition of Myst, Riven, and Exile.
I just finished playing Atlantis 3 so I thought I would revisit an old friend Myst. I've gotten farther than I did playing several years ago When I couldn't find a decent walkthru - thank you Gameboomers. Anyhow I'm stuck at Spaceship island. I am trying to enter the coordinates to get to the rail. I'm certain I have the right sounds but the doors won't open. What am I doing wrong?

Vanje, if the doors won't open, it's possible that you have a glitch, but more likely there's something wrong with what you're entering.

The sounds not only have to be correct, but they have to be in a specific order. Are you sure you have the order right... think

Even when you have them in the right order, it's tricky. There are a couple sounds that are almost identical, and I alway seem to choose the wrong one the first time.
One of the Walkthrus has a snap of the position, you can usually manage to fiddle the buttons to the right spot with a few tries.
Also, you have to back COMPLETLY out of the puzzle so it resets. On one play, I even had to walk around some before it reset properly.
Now, once you get IN is the 'fun' puzzle. evil evil

Vanje........

Almost everything you want to know about the MYST puzzles is HERE .

To open the tunnel to access the ride you can slide the slider, left to right, as shown here 5, 1, 9, 4, 3. Be sure you count the bottom position of each as # 1. smile

kszanz.....

Save = saving over previous saves, generally.
Save As= makes each save a new save in addition to leaving your previous saves intact.
As I recall, MYST let you put your saves wherever you wanted on your harddrive so you have to find out where they are in order to "Load" old saves and where to place "new" saves. laugh

I didn't do it......and if I did I'm not guilty!
