I have 'mastered?' how to move Guy around and pick up or use stuff, but am in the Palace of Prostheses and trying to find just the right position for Guy to stand in order to pick up the artificial hand from the basket to the right of the door (first basket from the door towards the counter) and no matter where I place him I cannot get the "pick up hand protheses" to highlight, only the whole basket or the basket next to it full of hooks - have tried several times to do this right both with the music box playing and without (to figure out my spot to stand on).....any ideas, or where can I get saved games for this one like I did for COMI? Thanks
Love, Betty Lou

The same site I got them from have a zipped 11MB saved games available. Monkey Games download site . Click on saves and select the games.

If you cannot download them - tell me and I will do it and send them to you piecemeal. smile

I love this series but it seems the controls are very picky. I ran into the same thing over & over again. It is worth it Betty Lou, so keep plugging. wave

Thanks MaG - just completed downloading the saves, going to take a look at them in the game now.
LorLor - have worn out my limit of boredom and frustration trying to get Guy on the right "spot" as when I move him forward to postion him and click on examine, or use, or pick up he moves automatically to a spot from where I cannot get him to 'focus' on the artificial hand I need, and he doesn't "need the whole basket" so I think I will look at these downloaded saves and see what I can do....thanks for the help

Betty Lou,
You don't forget to put the music box at the desk and play the music?

Thanks MaG. They are helping me a lot when I get stuck. Finding the right hotspot seems to be my biggest problem. Getting on with it OK now.
Josefien, yes I used the music box, the problem was getting Guy to stand in the right spot, never did master it, used the saved game to get me past it, two days trying and that is quite enough for me. Thanks
Love, Betty Lou

I need some advice please. I have Guy diving into the deep water near the cave/secret passage, we sink to the bottom, then the glowing fish come by, and when I try to 'use' the scupperware container on them he keeps saying he needs something to entice them into it - what did I miss? I don't think I have anything in my inventory to 'lure' those fish into the container, so where do I go to get something and what would it be? Please help me.
Love, Betty Lou

Comment here - an aside to my question above - I went back and figured out how to pick up that artificial hand without using that saved game to get me past it - I had not noticed or remembered that one of the hotkeys for dialogue choices was to use PageUp or PageDown, and using this placed me in the right position with the right dialogue to pick up that hand. I am now replaying yesterdays stuff from there and trying to do everything on my own. Still need help as to what I can use for "bait" to attract those fish into my container......

Must have been typing in tandem Betty Lou... Nip into the Bait shoppe and pick up a freebie!!

Interesting point about using the hotkeys.. I never finished the game so I may just try it again using that tip!!

additional chatter (oh, those monkeys!) here about using the hotkeys and not using the saves I downloaded - using them meant that I miss a lot of stuff the walkthrough says to do and may not have been played in the same order, so going back and using the hotkeys to do it according to the w/t means picking up on things I did miss, like picking up the duck and getting that smelly bait, also learned how to put the bait into the scupperware, and I was having trouble figuring out this 'combining things' until just now so have learned a lot and am really enjoying the game now...putting up with the 'gargling' sound of the dialogue, since the patch did not cure it, could turn off the speech and just use subtitles and music, but what the heck, just ignoring it...
So glad if I am helping others with this just by my silly goof-ups.....have fun, I may be back, but off to church soon by cab, car broke down yesterday, needs new radiator (or rebuilt?).

First, car 'glitch' is worse than we thought, we blew a head gasket, will arrange to get it taken care of tomorrow, has to be towed to a different shop.
Game - I was going along so good, played from my stuckness with the art. hand, and made it all the way to the chess players and trying to get them to fight so I can grab the clock - get just so far then scene freezes up on me, can't move, or exit or anything, but the graphics don't seem to be frozen, Guy moves a bit as a real person would when standing watching a chess game - can't get any speech either.....wonder what the heck is wrong. Even have downloaded the patch, but it has not fixed the problem. And, the save that I need to get me past it from that link takes me too far past it - wonder if I can email MY last save to anyone to see if they can play me past the 'grab the clock' bit?

Ugh about the car 'glitch'. frown

I found this from the Monkey Island forum:
EMI:
If you are having problems with EMI (Monkey Island 4) get the patch. If this does not correct your problem then try running in Direct3D rather than OpenGL mode or vice versa (configuration options, troubleshooting tab).

Maybe you can try that and see if it helps. smile

Thanks MaG. Have bookmarked the MonkeyIsland link to its homepage and found helpful stuff there - then downloaded the patch, reset to 16-bit, closed all running programs except Exp & SysTray, turned off AntiVirus program, and opened game and loaded my last save "need clock" and ran through the dialogues again to try to get the fight to start, and it turns out I can't be sure just what worked or if the problem was a problem or not - while the scene appeared to freeze, I did notice (and remarked here) that Guy and the chess players were moving as one would while breathing, and after several tries, I decided when I got to that part to sit and wait for the scene to 'catch up' or whatever and sure enough it was just a matter of being patient and waiting for those two to 'duke it out' and I grabbed the clock. Am now on my way...it may be that I was too impatient for the next part of that scene to occur and did not wait long enough - decided to sit here and crochet while waiting and the patience paid off....thanks for you help. I also checked out the MI site and registered for their forum and read some of the postings - two or 100 brains are much better than one!

Forgot to mention that I am playing this on hubbys computer now and it is doing fine with no voice gargling, seems the game likes his sound card (Soundblaster compatible) and not my new Soundblaster sound card...go figure.
I am stuck because of another slip of the memory - I have been to the Scumm bar (before sailing off to Lucre) and have now returned but cannot find the bar have forgotten where it is....please nudge me in the right direction and thanks

Betty Lou,

Doesn't the game have a map that when you move the cursor shows the different areas? Then you just click on the place you want and Guybrush would walk there. I am having a senior moment here. smile

Yes there is a map but it does not show the name of any specific building in the town - 4 places are identified 1. The Gov. Mansion 2. Meathooks house 3. The town 4. The harbor I've been wandering around and around that silly town and cannot find my way back to the bar - and I am so in need of a drink of grog!!! <img border="0" alt="woozy" title="" src="graemlins/woozy.gif" />

All I can find is that it is at the far side of town. I saw a screenshot of the town and there's roads right and left of the main street. Have you checked both roads?

slapforehead laugh Thanks MaG. I found it. My problem was that I overlooked the fact that the SCUMM bar has had the "ultimate Makeover Home Edition" and is now the Lua Bar! Found it with some help from the MI webpage and am trying now to get Meathook to cough up some dialogue about the Marley estate and how he waxed over the wedding gift painting but nothing is urging him in the right direction - in between dealing with our dead car and shopping for a loan and a new-used one to replace it, I will keep trying to accomplish what I need. May be back later.
Love, Betty Lou
