Hello fellow boomers! It has been years since I posted here and I miss this forum so much but it seems that life sometimes takes over and the years pass by. I hope to come by more often and post. So many great adventure games that are coming soon.

I wanted to take this time in my return to Gameboomers to discuss a game that has taken over my gaming hours. I am currently beta testing a text adventure game called Lifestream by Unimatrix Productions. Its not quite the game you may think based on its description of being a text adventure. Its a remake of the the adventure game released in 2004. Its the first of many games coming this year by Christopher Brendel utilizing the new engine he created, Storycentric Worlds. He is releasing remakes of Lifestream, Shady Brook, The Filmmaker and then the unreleased Stonewall Penitentiary. All of these games will take place in the same universe with a game that brings together all of the story elements found in these games next year in 2017. Storycentric Worlds, the engine that created Lifestream is unique in that it will allow other developers to create games just like Lifestream. I wrote a detailed preview of my 10+ hours in playing and completing the beta found below.

Its not often that I get so excited about the potential of a company or a series of games so I hope you will see how much I look forward to the release of Lifestream and the rest of the games as you read this preview. I am very glad to be back to a wonderful group of game boomers! If you have any questions regarding the game I would be more than happy to answer them.

Very nice to see you, Lundar! I remember you very well. wave

Thanks for the info about Lifestream - I bought the game years ago when it was first released. I also played Shady Brook. It will be interesting to see the remakes. I will read your preview. smile

Thanks for the welcome Marian and for remembering me. I miss this forum so much. I regret being away for a long time. Just like Lifestream released so many years ago it seems like it has been far to long that I have been away from Gameboomers. Far too many adventure games I am probably not aware about.

Hi Connie! A fellow beta tester. While this remake will be different than what you remember the spirit of the original game is there! I hope that you will enjoy the new direction that they are taking with these games. I am also looking forward to the remakes of others that they are releasing in the future.

I am glad you also mentioned Shady Brook. I never tried that one but I think that Shady Brook may be coming in a few months in enhanced form just like Lifestream.

Hi Lundar!! I remember you!! I too was a long-time boomer - and like you, I've been out of the loop for awhile. Family deaths, moving, new jobs, etc. etc. Life issues kind of pushed me out of the gaming community altogether. I truly miss the Boomer community - this was my FAVORITE Adventure gamers community!!! I am a BIG LOVER of 1st Person Point-And-Click Adventure games. I created "Harvest" and "The Arrangement". I was recently contacted by Christopher Brendel regarding the re-release of his games in the Storycentric Worlds engine - and I gotta say - I am SUPER excited about that!!! His games were soooooo good - excellent stories! I can't wait to see how it all comes together!!

I also just bought and started playing indie developer Dan Peache's game "Cold Winter Waiting" amd man - that game is AWESOME!!!! This to me is what these games are all about!!!!

Who knows - I may decide to jump back into the drivers seat and start working on the creation of a new indie game myself. It's been too long since "The Arrangement" (2004).

On a side note - I have to admit - since it's been sooooo long since I've been in the loop - I'm still trying to get used to the new way of doing business - buying and downloading games - no more physical CD's and Boxes. Kind of miss that but at the same time - seems like the doors have been swung wide open on the whole concept of "self publication". I can't wait to explore this new world!!!

Hi Michael! Glad you made it back here! And I agree about Dan's Corrosion: Cold Winter Waiting!

I hope you get back into making games, I enjoyed both of yours very much and they are still sitting on my shelf here.

Awwwww thanks Michael and Ana for mentioning Corrosion. Hearing good things about your work is always awesome, and really, it keeps you going. thumbsup

And I was just saying on Facebook about how Michael and his games were amongst some that really inspired me to start making my own back in the day.

Chris and his games were also amongst them, so colour me excited also for the new Lifestream, and the new Storycentric worlds engine, which I hope to delve into myself in the future. happydance

YAY for adventure games. bravo thumbsup

And Dan - I'm soooooooooooo honored that you were inspired by my work - but lets just say - your game is now re-inspiring me. The atmosphere - the story - the clever use of inventory - WOW!!! I'm gonna hate to have this one end!! smile smile

I have Lifestream and Shady Brook but never played them. If they work on Windows 7 I still can.

I did play Harvest and The Arrangement and really liked both of them a lot.

Also Corrosion!

Thanks for the welcome MaG, mbc841, Mad, oldbroad and Winfrey,

Its great to be back to this forum and I am so glad many of you remember Lifestream from way back. If you have read the preview you will know what to expect when the game releases next month. I have not been this excited in quite some time.

Dan Peach: I am glad you and others are excited about Lifestream! I think you are going to like the demo as well as the full version! There is definitely over an hour of gameplay if you use no hints, look for everything, read everything and take in the environments and story.

A demo is now available at: http://www.storycentricworlds.com/lifestream and you can vote for the game to be greenlit at steam at: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=639982476

I am very curious to see what you all think about this demo and your thoughts!

Welcome back Michael, Lundar and Christopher!

Michael, The Arrangement and Harvest was a big inspiration for many indie developers, myself included. I think that I speak for all of us when I say that you mentioning the possibility of a new game is getting our hopes up pretty high.

Christopher, I hope that your new concept will be a success. Text adventures is an almost forgotten genre in urgent need of revitalizing. We already know that you're a great story teller. Judging from the screenshots on your site, your new engine suits this type of gaming perfectly.

Thanks for the welcome Mikael!

Its awesome when indie developers help other indie developers. I think I may have also played The Arrangement and enjoyed it very much. Your definitely right that text adventures do need revitalizing. I for one always wanted to get into them but could not for the lack of certain things such as art and sound and other features. The engine that powers Lifestream and future games like it definitely changed my mind about the genre and I look forward to others creating games similar to Lifestream with the engine.
