Hi everyone, i am bit surprised that there is no thread
about Obduction here.
I am so hyped for the game (cannot play it before i get a new
Macbook at the end of October) and i thought a lot of other
gamers would be as well. I am bit surprised that there is no discussion
in the community - how the game is, what one likes, how hard the puzzles are etc.

I would be interested if you like the game - but NO puzzle spoiler please.
NOT in the slightest!

Cheers
Mike

Absolutely loved the game and highly recommend it but certainly not if your computer doesn't achieve at least the minimum requirements.

I think not many fans of first person puzzlers here at Gameboomers are able to play it because of the high system requirements. Otherwise there might be more discussion.

You can find some player opinions posted at ***Adventuregamers forum*** and ***JustAdventure forum***.

flotsam has done a ***First Look at Obduction***.

I'm like Colpet and others, waiting to play the game when an upgrade is made to my computer AND when my boxed game arrives at my doorstep.

You did hear about it before because you posted in the Announcement thread for Obduction...
***Obduction Launch Trailer thread***

Yours is the 7th post in the thread.

If you decided to buy it back then, make sure you don't unknowingly buy it again after reading about it in this current thread.

Good idea. I'll wait for mine too. Hopefully, they will get all the bugs out before they hard copy the game.

dianne, you never know until you try and I'm sure at some point a computer that can run it will come down in price and you may be able to play it. Also, if you decide to get rid of it it should be for what it cost you. Sadly, I have seen too many games given away only to see them being sold elsewhere. And this game in a retail version would be a hot find!

I agree with Ana, but it's a lovely thought regardless about giving it away at the Trading Post. Very kind of you. smile

I didn't know there was a boxed version. If you decide to trade/sell I Will happily buy you a digital version Dianne as a swap.
Hopefully at some stage you will all have the opportunity to play - it is certainly living up to my expectations so far. But it warrants the minimum specs. I played at first on my old machine and it stuttered a fair bit, but on my current specs it hums.

THe boxed version came with a 75 dollar pledge on Kickstarter, flotsam. It also included a Key.

Hey Mike,

I just finished the game and it is a real head scratcher. I loved it and I am very interested in the background of the story. Maybe we will get the developer to write some books about the background of this story like they did with MYST.

Cheers,

Mr. Bill

Opps, i started this thread and then i forgot about it for a while - sorry ;-)
Thanks for the input. So, it seems like the game is quite good.
Looking forward playing it. Hopefully the new MacBook will be released
at the end of october - can't wait to play the game. Most important thing
are the puzzles for me, of course. I hope they are really hard and not
toned down to make the game more appealing to average gamers.

So, can anyone tell me a bit about the difficulty of the puzzles? ;-)
NO spoilers or i will kill you ;-)

Mike,

I don't think you need to worry about difficulty! smile

@mrbill: Sounds good.
@Mad: As a german, i am in contact with Rhem-Knut once in a while (not very often, he really
is a nice guy, by the way).
He told me once that he gets complaints from time to to time that the puzzles are too hard.
I would be sooooo disappointed if he would make the puzzles less hard because
of these complaints. If he did give in to these complaints, it wouldn't be a Rhem-Game anymore.
So thats my fear about Obduction as well, but as mrbill mentioned, it seems
to be unjustified.
You wrote: 'I am hoping solving the puzzles will be a pleasant,

too different logical skills. For some it will either be too hard or too easy if all
puzzles are about the same difficulty. The only solution in my opinion is
to mix it up: Put in some easy once and some hard ones, maybe
raise the difficulty of the puzzles the more you progress in the game
(and mybe addd an optional hint system, though i dont like that idea too much).

When it comes to puzzles there is a difference between hard but fair and hard because of bad design. Knut is THE master of designing hard but fair puzzles imo. Hope he never changes his approach to designing games.:) I found Obduction's puzzles to range between pretty easy and obvious to (a few) very hard and obscure. The puzzles as a whole were not the best part of the game imo. Still very good game though.

I have no quarrel with Knut Müller whatsoever. His games are top notch and the puzzles incorporated in them eminently suitable for his type of game.

However, to label a player as “average” because they might not excel in Mr Müller’s particular type of puzzle I consider derogatory.

Games and their puzzles are many and varied and the talents of players are many and varied also.

Mike can answer for himself I guess, but being a non-native English speaking person myself I'm sure he didn't mean "average" in a derogatory way. I interpreted him as meaning that he hopes developers like Knut don't water down the puzzle difficuly in their games because of pressure from the quite large group of potential customers that prefer games in the more casual vein. Imagine RHEM as a walking simulator!:)

I would find it very surprising if Knut Müller was prepared to "water down" his games .. for any reason .. when those games have contributed so much to his reputation as a developer whistle

Plus, if, as you say, the meaning of "average" in the previous post has merely been lost in translation, then that can only be good yes

frazap was right about his assumption, i did not mean 'average' in a derogatory way.
Thanks frazap for pointing that out :-)
I am a bit nervous that you called most of the puzzles easy/obvious frown
