Sad day. I had to euthanize Toby this morning. He developed hip dysplasia a few months ago. He was a Dutch Shepherd and they are prone to the condition. Medication and assistance helped for awhile but he wasn't able to walk the last two days and last night he was in pain. The vet's office was wonderful and he slipped away peacefully in my lap. The vet and the assistant both sat down on the floor and cried with me. He is being cremated and his ashes go with my other pets who will eventually join mine some day. My house is so quiet today and my bed will be empty tonight. It's so hard but there was no other choice. I couldn't let him be in pain or lose his dignity. I bought two rotisserie chickens last night at Sam's Club. It was his favorite treat and I gave him all he could eat. RIP Toby Joseph (13 years and 10 months) My heart goes with you.

Got me crying too, ScarletDragon. Sad but you did wonderfully with that last meal of his favorite chicken and holding him as he passed. Condolences to you, and maybe Toby will be at the Rainbow Bridge chasing some of the many cats I've sent there. Hugs.

ScarletDragon I'm so sorry for your loss. I plan on releasing Baby's ashes this weekend, in the creek that she loved running around so much. I feel your pain. joe

So very sorry ScarletDragon. My heart is heavy for you. I lost my 14 year old in July, it's still an empty space in my heart.

Many here know the pain of losing a fur baby. I too, am sorry for your loss, but it's knowing when it's time to let go so they don't suffer.

Thank you all so much for your words of comfort. My grief is so overwhelming right now that it's hard to let it out. I knew the gameboomer family would understand.
