The Sinking City is now available for pre-order as well!

Quote
Lesquin, France, May 2, 2019 — Bigben and Frogwares studio are pleased to release a gameplay video showing A Delicate Matter, a mission from The Sinking City that can be started a few hours into the game. The video shows how the main investigation mechanics work.

During this mission, Mr. Throgmorthon, head of one of the leading families in Oakmont, asks Charles to look into a delicate matter: a receiver of stolen art has disappeared just before closing the sale of a valuable item, and Throgmorthon wants it back at all costs. As the investigation unfolds, the player finds out that the story is far more complicated than it first seemed. Without being prompted by the game, the player must question more and more witnesses throughout the town, and use logic to get to the bottom of things.

As of today, fans of The Sinking City can pre-order the physical and digital versions of the game; each version contains exclusive bonuses.

Enjoy the complete experience with the Necronomicon edition, available in digital form. It includes The Sinking City, the "Worshippers of the Necronomicon" 3-quest pack, and the "Investigator Pack" DLC.

Discover all the answers soon on June the 27th, on PC, PlayStation®4 and Xbox One.

Happy Gaming!
Ana

No, it will be released on Steam and other portals after it's initial release on EpicGames store. They get it for a short time before the others, but it is not an exclusive like some others are doing.

I just read on Steam that it will be at least a year before they have the game. Well, I think it says they will sell it but you will need the Epic client, but their release date shows 2020. Something like that. The game is way to expensive for me right now anyway.

****EDIT**** After reading the announcement on Steam again, I'm sure I have that wrong!!! (As usual lol) The one year part is right, but I was reading the Steam selling it with the Epic client part wrong.

Watching the video you linked to it reminded me a lot of Murdered Soul Suspect. (None of the other videos I've seen did; just this one.)

Well, this announcement on Steam does say exclusive for at least a year:

"Where will I be able to purchase and play The Sinking City?

We’ve agreed to partner with Epic Games to distribute The Sinking City on PC exclusively through the Epic Games store for at least 1 year after release. Both physical and digital copies of the game will require the player to download and install the free Epic Games store client in order to access the game. "

And then it says this:

"Will the game ever be released on Steam, GOG or through other third-party outlets?

Yes, it is likely that one year after the release of The Sinking City on the Epic Games store, we will consider releasing the game on other platforms."

A year does often fly by but I don't really consider it a short time. They say the Epic store offers better compensation but I have to wonder if it makes up for all the lost sales from people who will wait for it to be on Steam or GOG or somewhere else. I don't feel I will ever use Epic because I don't like the way they are doing these year long exclusives.

Okay Ana, where did your post just go????

lol Sorry oldbroad! You aren't losing it, I just deleted it a couple minutes ago and was going to repost and reword.

A year to wait for a game is a long time, particularly one that has been anticipated for a long time. It does indeed force you to get it from Epic or wait it out and possibly lose interest by that time it releases elsewhere. Epic has a huge base of users through the Fortnight universe. In the first three months of this year alone they grew by 85 million users. Expect to see lots more exclusives.

They only take 12% from developers compared to 30% other sites take. It is a good deal for developers, but not the exclusivity.

What ?? !!

I would have thought an "exclusive" of six months would have been plenty long enough !!

But thanks for the info, BrownEyedTigre smile

Honestly, Mad, I think 30 days would be enough! Face it, there will always be those that want it the very second it is released. Just like when movies are released, I know lots of folks that will wait in line an hour at a crowded movie theater to get an opening day seat. I believe they could still make a ton of money if they only did it a month or so. A year, it is basically old news and people will have moved on to the next big thing. Just my opinion of course.

Epic is even buying out games that were previously offered on Steam, forcing older games that weren't developed by Epic to become Epic exclusives and removed from Steam.

Some people are so angry about the attempts to strongarm them into using the Epic launcher that they are buying the console versions of games even when they'd normally play those games on PC. They'd rather give money to Sony or Microsoft than to Epic.

I've waited way longer than a year for certain games to be released DRM-free.
It is certainly possible for Steam users to wait a year for a Steam version if that's what they want.

Obviously Epic's goal is to put Steam out of business, or at the least put them firmly in 2nd place.

If they buy out games previously offered on Steam and make them Epic exclusives, what happens if a person already had bought it from Steam? Can they still access it through Steam?

I've waited longer than a year to buy games due to them being more money than I can or want to pay.

It does rather seem they want to put Steam out of business, in my opinion, though I don't know much about this stuff.

I did not read many of the Steam comments following the announcement about this game, but all but one of the one's I did read were quite nasty towards Epic.

At the moment they're saying you can, and that the game will continue to be supported through Steam if it was bought on Steam. Of course they can change their minds in the future.

Adventuregamers has a hands-on preview of Sinking City.
https://adventuregamers.com/articles/view/34942

That "First Look" tells me that Frogwares did not make this game for people like me.
The 3rd paragraph in particular tells me that I would not be able to finish the game.

The trailer shows you things the "First Look" does not and the "First Look" tells you things that may not be obvious from watching the trailer, so they complement each other.

I'm sure there are people who will enjoy this game -- especially console gamers with an interest in Lovecraft, who are probably the target audience.

As for why Frogwares agreed to make it an Epic exclusive, Epic probably paid them for the exclusivity deal, and Frogwares needed the money. If Frogwares is expecting most of their sales to be for console versions anyway, they may not expect to lose many sales from PC-only players who refuse to deal with Epic.

Despite all those negative comments in the Steam article that announced it would be an Epic exclusive
https://steamcommunity.com/games/750130/announcements/detail/1821050404983574362
none of that matters if those people buy the game anyway.

Thanks Jenny. Some time back I knew this game may not be for me. Frogwares games always make me nauseous anyway and adding action stuff sure won't help.

If you mean their original versions of early Sherlock Holmes games that were 1st person only, like Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened and Sherlock Holmes vs Arsene Lupin (aka Sherlock Nemesis) then I can't play those either. But then Frogwares went back and remastered those games so you could toggle a 3rd person mode -- just for the sake of players who got motion sickness with them, and I am able to play the remastered versions using the 3rd person mode.

I don't know of any other developer that bothered to do something like that for their customers.

Sinking City uses a different game engine -- it has a 3rd person "follow cam" viewpoint, but the camera is often too zoomed in and/or too close to the floor to help reduce motion sickness if you're prone to it.

I certainly wish them well, but their latest game is not for me.
As you said, adding action sure doesn't help when you're already prone to motion sickness.
