I have been trying to do this update, but it has failed twice.

It only install about 25% and then I get a message: What needs your attention: Then I'm supposed to restart my computer.
I do that and it show up again as a failed attempt.

What's going on with this??

Anyone else has this problem? I need some help with this update. Any suggestions wold be helpful.

Thanks, Marie

There is no Windows update 103. Is it trying to install 1903? What EXACTLY does the message say... I don't know what "what needs your attention" means.

I'm going to guess you mean update 1903, which is the current one.
There are some suggestions at this site
https://howtofixwindows.com/windows-10-1903-update-failed-to-install/

Scroll down past where it says
Quote
Windows 10 Update 1903 fails to install

Cause 01: When the download of windows 10 Version 1903 is completed, Windows asks to restart the system to install the update. After the system’s restart, the May 2019 Update is not installed and at the Update history you receive the following error: “Feature update to Windows 10, version 1903: Failed to install…” (error: 0x80080008)

Cause 02: After checking for new updates, Windows is starting to download the May 2019 Update for Windows 10 version 1903, but during the Downloading Updates operation, is stuck at xx% (e.g. at 85% or 99%) with error 0x80d02002.

Following where it says that, the howtofix website has some possible fixes.
The first is to make sure you have at least 32gb of free disc space.

The howtofix website also mentions running Windows Update after using "clean boot"

It also talks about using the Windows Update troubleshooter:
Quote
Press Windows+ I keyboard shortcut to open Windows Settings
Go to Update & Security then Troubleshoot.
Select windows update and Run The Troubleshooter.

Running a disc cleanup before attempting Windows Update may help, especially if you are short on hard drive space.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026616/windows-10-disk-cleanup

If this looks too complicated, and you don't have a friend or family member to help you at home, you may have to take the computer to a repair shop to figure it out.

If you really did have an error about "Windows Update 103" and not 1903, you may have corruption or a virus.

One of the links I found also suggested turning off anti-virus in addition to making sure the computer even COULD run 1903 including the minimum of 32 GB of free space among other things. I didn't want to suggest anything until Marie posts exactly what error she was getting as there are so many possible issues.

And like you say, if this error IS about 103 - which doesn't exist - then she may have other issues. The cryptic "what" needs your attention just doesn't tell us anything.

The widows update is 1093, my typo error.

I will check the amount of free space and after that try the update with my anti-virus turned off.

Will let you know "Draclvr" what happens.

Jenny I'm going to check the ink you suggested also about the "update failed to install"

Thanks to both of you,
Marie

It would also help to know exactly what that error message was. Then we can look it up for you.

Good luck! This update went perfectly on my Surface Tablet, but haven't done it on my desktop yet.

It wasn't a error as such. nothing like error:00098800 The windows update 1093 download stopped at 25%, then I got a message "Making sure your ready to install" then a message "What needs your attention" which showed "To finish the install restart your computer" and down below this message there was a "REFRESH button" that didn't work.

I tried the disk clean up and have 1.66 Tb space and also turned off the anti virus, still the update failed as listed in the windows update area.

The install still seems to be getting stuck at the 25%.---no error message.

The next thing I'm going to try is running the "Windows Trouble Shooter"

Have you tried running Windows Update immediately after doing a "clean boot?"
Antivirus isn't the only 3rd party software that can run in the background after a "normal boot" and interfere with Windows Update.

Here are some links to websites telling how to do clean boot in Windows 10:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows
https://www.windowscentral.com/how-clean-boot-windows-10

Some websites recommend making sure your drivers are the "latest" version.
You can check the date of your drivers (video card drivers, network card drivers, motherboard drivers, etc.) to see if there are newer versions. Here's a site that tells how to do that
https://www.intowindows.com/how-to-check-the-install-date-of-drivers-in-windows-10/

Drivers you download direct from the manufacturer website are usually better than the ones Windows finds, but sometimes they are the same.

a couple of weeks ago I have installed the update 1903 on my pc and my laptop, I noticed that the installation on my laptop took much more time than the installation on my pc.
My pc has much better spec's than my laptop, even on my pc I though one moment that the installation was stuck at 75%.
I justed waited and after a while the installation went on, on my laptop it took a very long time.

I don't know how long you have waited but I had to wait more than 1/2 hour, then it went on.

Also, one of the help sites I checked suggested unplugging all your peripherals except for the keyboard and mouse.

I had to manually reset Windows Update Components which I found a help page, it was a little complicated for me to do, but after doing that and restarting my computer I was able to go back and do the update. Yes, it did take a long time to download and install but it was a success.

Draclvr, I did unplug my printer, and stopped my anti virus program.

I hope I don't have to go through that again on the next update.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Marie

Good for you for being persistent! I had seen that fix to reset Windows Update Components and that was going to be my next suggestion... it did seem a bit complicated.
