Hi A game I am in the middle of had a slider, which I hadn't encountered for a while but which just reminded me how much I don't like them. It triggered a memory of a game which had timed sliders - I think it was sci-fi themed. Did I recall correctly or just wake up screaming at the thought?

I've never been a huge fan of sliders, but I can usually stumble through them OK. The best part is finally sliding the last tile into place. I came across a puzzle site that will really keep you awake, flotsam: a puzzle site that generates slider puzzles from easy to very hard so that users can compete to solve them in the least amount of time. They provide an option to put numbers on each tile to make it a little easier to solve. You can find it here. Related to this, someone came up with a systematic technique to solve any slider puzzle. I was not aware of this methodical technique, but I tried it on the slider puzzle site and it let me solve a few of the puzzles much more quickly than I would have without the technique. it can be found here.
I point, therefore I click.

Ransom (for me) was the most difficult ND game of all. You may find it easier than I did. If you like puzzles, you will be in puzzle paradise. Excerpt from The Secret of Atlantis walkthrough: Dragon slider puzzle - Save game here. The motif for the slider puzzle is the dragon shown on the curtain. Do the puzzle but Li Tang, the bouncer will keep an eye on you. Immediately, turn around and go forward to the race table. Then go back and continue the puzzle. If he catches you, the pattern of the puzzle might be different when you go back. So the puzzle itself isn't timed, but the fact that the puzzle pattern can change if the bouncer catches you does seem a little sadistic. | | |

the slider puzzle in A whispered world made me stop. I did have my daughter one time get me past it but I can't do it by myself. I will try this strategy. I gave up after spending 3 days on it and not getting anywhere. again, why don't developers put in a pass thing if you want to bypass a puzzle????I don't know if these would work with your game or not (hopefully they would) but Daedalic has saved games for Whispered World here.

I am all for such a facility mbday630. And thanks for those sites ergggo. I will try that approach next time. I had always tried to do them row by row but from the top.
I hadn't actually come across one in a game for some time so perhaps they are losing their supposed appeal.

I actually like Sliders. This might not qualify as exactly a 'Timed' slider but in the Secrets of Atlantis there was a slider on a door that you had only a short time before a guard would catch you. If he did catch you you had to start it over. So you had to move a few pieces and move away to hide from the guard until he went away but he would keep coming back.

I don't "hate" slider puzzles, but I do dislike the ones that are ridiculously difficult - and of course some certainly are !! I remember very well indeed the dragon one in The Secrets of Atlantis: The Sacred Legacy. Took me quite a few goes to get past THAT one. It was frustrating

I hear ya Mad. The ones that I dislike are the ones with an obscure picture that is very hard to decipher what tiles go where.
As far as the Secrets of Atlantis Slider, it took a while but if I remember correctly the game gave a pre-sound hint so you knew when, just before the Guard appeared to give you time to hide.

And then you get the picture right but positioned wrong and have to try to move it over or up or down .

I recall my strategy guide writing days that we had to not only figure out the slider, but had to write down the shortest amount of steps. So many tears.....

I had forgotten Atlantis. I actually thought the SF game might have been The Arrival but nothing in my old review mentions that. So clearly I dreamt that much at least. And however hard the writing, your walkthroughs giving steps Ana are so much more helpful than just saying "solve the slider"
