I was hoping to get some feedback on this game -- has anyone played it? It's on sale right now and I was thinking of grabbing it.

I've played the first one and found it a decent romp. RDR-2 looks to be pretty highly rated when checking reviews across the "Interwebs."

The thing that impressed me about the first one was the voice acting. I don't know how many folks were involved, but you hardly heard a voice repeated from an NPC (unless it was the same character of course), which added to the immersion.

Looks like RDR-2 went the same route from their listing in the IMDB, tons of voice talent. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6161168/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast

Fairly extensive cast for a western themed vid game. Even they (IMDB) give it a 9.7 out of 10.

My son has played it through twice now and absolutely loves it.

The PC version would be a good one for testing out your laptop. smile

That's what I was thinking.

EDIT: Nope. It's a no-go. I have the dreaded game-not launching-issue that so many people seem to have. I spent all afternoon looking for solutions and in the end just asked Steam for a refund.

Too bad. I've wanted t play this game forever, but it's not going to be. I'll get something else.

So the game I decided on was Death Stranding, which has great reviews and seems like it might be a good one.

I did not even know there was an issue with the Red Dead Redemption 2 on Steam. That's a shame. My son played the Playstation 4 version.

Enjoy Death Stranding. I've heard good things about it.

Just out of curiosity - did you see both of these fixes on Steam for the RDR 2 not launching issue?

Quote
I was able to run RDR2 from steam for a while but then after a while it would only start the Rockstar Games Launcher. I could not run GTA5 either. The solution that worked for me was to close Steam completely, launch the Rockstar Games Launcher and click "Play on Steam". Log in with your Steam credentials and the game should run. Cheers.

The other one was:

Disabling the iGPU in device manager was the fix for me.

These two fixes (one or both) seemed to work for everyone posting in the Steam thread who was having problems getting the game to launch.

Yes, I saw those and myriad others. After about 4 hours I got too stressed and asked for a refund.

I might give it another go someday, but for now, it's on my naughty list.

Yes, I would give it another go at a different time. Maybe get it somewhere besides Steam, too. wave

So, my second purchase of RDR2 was more successful in that the game actually starts. I haven't delved in yet, but having a working game is movement forward. I'm looking forward to this one. Will keep you posted once I start.

I'm just starting to play RDR2. It's a fairly long game, very suitable for those under confinement, which is what I am. But it needs 100 gigabytes on a PC. That's fightening!

Another game that has a western feel, though not overtly, is The Witcher 3. It is set in a fantasy land with exotic monsters, sorceresses, and such. But there are many storylines involving making tough moral decisions in a war-ravaged land that hardens people's souls. That is very much at home in a western universe.

I need to get back into Witcher 3 this winter when I have more time. I will have to download again to the drive I'm using now. Had to abandon my old 1 TB Velociraptor and got a speedy new 1 TB Evo Pro SSD. GamingPhreak, I like your description of it with a Western feel. I think I'm also going to get RDR2 - it's been on my list for awhile. Let us know what you think, hagatha.

hagatha, is this going to be your inaugural game on the new Razor Blade?

Another game with a strong Western, down-home vibe is Fallout New Vegas. The dialog, characters, clothing, "attitude," etc. are clearly Western-inspired. Other Fallout games have similar traits here and there but not as obvious.

I started the game yesterday, just for a few minutes. It is really quite impressive. My Razer handles it without a hitch so far.

I won't actually get into it any farther just yet, and my brain is already bouncing from Death Stranding to trying to get all my Fallout 4 mods installed on the new laptop, but it definitely runs and it's definitely worth playing from what I can see.

I think you will enjoy the game very much. I did see part of it when my son was playing and it looked fascinating.

It opens in a blizzard and you soon realize that you are with a group of fugitives that seem to be on the wrong side of the law. Finding shelter, taking out a group of bandits, rescuing a damsel in distress. So far, so good.
