Good for you, hagatha! We got Pfizer too... Although we are still being super careful, we actually met some very good friends at the local Mexican restaurant for margaritas and dinner last night. Kim is two weeks out from her second shot and it was heavenly!

Be still my heart! I dearly LOVE those Cinnamon Crunch bagels from Panera! I had to close the Ranch the other night and I found a big box of them in the kitchen... you KNOW I grabbed one and took it home to eat at midnight!

Our bubble neighbours have all had their first shot, too, so we're all feeling pretty good about our small gatherings.
My husband hasn't had a shot, and I'm not pushing it because he isn't well now and has a severe needle phobia to boot. He rarely goes out because his mobility is poor, so I think he should be pretty safe within our small group. I might be able to persuade him to have a shot if we can get a Home Care Nurse over to administer it, for when things open up again and we can go out for meals, etc. We've got a couple of resorts nearby that have outdoor seating and it would be lovely to have lunch out on the deck.
We still haven't seen any humpbacks We were just checking our records, and they seem to show up anywhere from the end of April to the end of May so they should be back any day.
We did see a huge pod of Pacific White-Sided dolphins last week, followed about an hour later by a large pod of Transient Orca -- usually the Transients travel in small family groups but they will congregate with other groups for a hunt. They are mammal eaters, whereas our Resident Orca are strictly fish-eaters. The Residents are in trouble for lack of food, especially the Southern Resident pods, so salmon fishing is closed until further notice. Last year it was shut down until July. I'm hoping it never gets opened at all this year, just to give the babies a chance. The value of those animals to local economies is immense -- we have several whale-watching tour companies here just in our small city and they're packed all summer long.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hope your Sister is starting to improve, BrownEyedTigre. I send my best for her Roll on the day when enough people have been vaccinated that the risk of infection becomes rare !! But rather a long way to go yet

Thank you family, Drac, hagatha, Winfrey and soot. She is on day 8 and has been bedridden the whole time. She will get the new monoclonal antibody infusion on Monday if she doesn't start turning the corner. Since it leaves your immune system compromised we are hoping to see improvement so she won't need it. I believe in the power of prayer and positive thoughts so I can't thank you enough! hagatha, I am so envious of your surroundings! I wish you shared photos of your area!

hagatha, I am so envious of your surroundings! I wish you shared photos of your area! I'm not techie enough to do that! I can't even get my photos off my phone. I fi had instructions I could, though. I was actually going to post a link to my husband's photo website, but for some reason it doesn't load properly, and I'm not sure whether he's been maintaining it lately. EDIT: Okay, so his web site isn't loading properly, and the fellow who was maintaining it is really busy, but here you can scroll through some of the photos. The verticals don't load properly, so they're cut off, and the horizontals are too big, but you can get a sense of what's what. It's really too bad we can't get this up and running again because it's really important to me. Anyway: http://www.johnlowmanphotography.ca/

I only wish it was loading correctly. The proportions in some of the photos are completely wrong. I'm hoping we can find someone here in town who can help us get it running properly again, since it's kind of a legacy.
You can see a couple of pictures of the white baby orca from two summers ago.

He is very talented. It's honestly too bad you can't see the pictures properly.
The photography is one of the main reasons we moved here from Vancouver, though when we moved we had no idea that the humpbacks had returned to the area after 60-odd years -- they were hunted right down to the very last one. We saw them up in telegraph Cove about 15 years ago, and they had only just arrived that year, again for the first time in 50 years. It's nice to know that nature can rebound if we stop killing everything!
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Holy cow, that is simply wonderful. I was only able to get a couple of pictures loaded, but I would love to see the rest. I'll try again tomorrow.
