I am having troubles with Ceville right now, but, this is a different problem. I have been writing to GOG to find out why I can't launch GK3 and they said to look at my DPI settings and they gave me basic instructions but I don't see anything about DPI. can you help me on where to look? in fact, maybe that is why Ceville is crashing all the time???

I have no idea why they are talking about DPI settings. That's "dots per inch" and has to do with your resolution and scaling. What are the instructions they are giving you?

I can't imagine why DPI setting would affect Ceville. You really need to ask them about your issues with the game. I'm crossing my fingers that the fact that you still use this Windows 7 computer on the internet is not causing problems.

how to change DPI settings in Windows 7:

YouTube demonstration

I have the GOG version of GK3 and it runs fine on my Windows 7 computer. What is the exact nature of the problem you are having? Do you get any particular error messages when you try to run the game?

I didn't see where she is using Windows 7. Did I miss that or did you see that I am using Windows 7 to play the game?

If she is using Windows 10, here are instructions for the DPI settings:

And if Windows 10, the same questions I asked above about GK3 apply.

Will wait for more info. smile

Mbday will only use a Windows 7 computer, even though it is very, very risky on the internet. We already went through this issue at MM.

I still would need to know exactly what instructions GOG is giving her about DPI.

Ceville, according to the download page on GOG, supports Windows 7/8/10. On Steam it says it supports Windows XP/Vista.

Drac, I see we have a birthday girl in our midst! I hope you have a very birthday on Wednesday.

Thank you, Marian! Advancing yet another year into my 70's!

I saw those OS listings for Ceville on GOG and Steam too. I have the GOG download and it plays perfectly on my Windows 10.

Okay Drac. I thought you might have known that information from somewhere else but wasn't sure.

The Steam version is working quite well so far on my Windows 7.

I saw the cake also but I could have sworn you and Leeana just had a birthday not too long ago. duh birthday

Yes, I am using windows 7. I got both ceville and GK3 from GOG. Ceville keeps crashing and GK3 won't launch so I have been writing to GOG. this is their latest email.

thank you for the clarification.
For launching issues with GK3, please consider trying a few troubleshooting steps:
1) This workaround from the support article might be helpful: https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/ar...ght-3-The-game-requests-a-CD?product=gog

2) Using an unusual DPI setting has been known to cause problems for some games. Please follow these steps to reset it to the default value and let me know if it helped:
I) Right-click an empty section of your desktop and go to “Personalize”,
II) Click “Display” in the bottom-left corner
III) Change your DPI setting to '100% (Default) and confirm by clicking “Apply”.

3) Please try changing compatibility mode. Right-click the game's shortcut, go to Properties -> Compatibility and try different compatibility modes before attempting to launch the game again.

Well, I sincerely doubt you have an "unusual" DPI setting. Did you try the right click on the desktop method to make sure your DPI settings are at 100. Also, did you try changing compatibility mode?

And then let us know what they say about Ceville crashing.

I have had a couple of games that would not start due to my DPI settings. One was a game from Big Fish, and it actually gave me a message explaining what the problem was.

The other game was Black Mirror II. If the DPI was not at 100 percent, it would not let me progress past the main menu.

Without these two issues in the past, in all likelihood I would never have known about DPI settings.

I agree with Drac, though, that it seems unlikely that this would be the issue. It doesn't hurt to check it out, however.
