Just wanted to take a poll on what GB'rs think of the "new" BF choices of games and changed days of availability of CE's (good ones appear to be lacking?)

Thanks everybody!

The war in Ukraine is having a hugely negative impact on Big Fish. The remaining HOPA developers that they have are either from Russia or Ukraine, roughly 90% or more. This is also true of many developers who release regularly priced games rather than Collector's Editions.

You can read more about it here.

Therefore I think it would be grossly unfair to judge Big Fish at this time about the lack of new releases or other criteria be they good, bad, or indifferent.

Everyone is doing the best that they can under very trying circumstances, and we are lucky right now to be seeing anything new released on their site.

Thanks, Marian; however BF had been changing long before the war in the Ukraine. However, I did not mean anything negative by this post. Please delete it if you desire. Thanks.

No worries, Laurette. And yes, I agree that BF had already been changing prior to the war. One thing that has improved dramatically these past several months is Customer Support. I just think that this is a poor time to be debating the relative demerits and merits of Big Fish as they are really at a disadvantage right now, and who knows for how much longer this situation will continue.

I hope anyone else who wants to weigh in on this will do so, though. Others are always free to express their opinions. smile

While we are on the topic, though, I would like to mention something that pertains to how small the pool of HOPA developers has become. There is going to be a remastered version of Boomzap's Awakening: The Dreamless Castle released this year, first as a Collector's Edition. Boomzap would like to make the last and final installment in their Otherworld series of games, Otherworld: The Eternal Winter. They have spoken to Big Fish about this and Big Fish has said they first want to wait and see how well the remastered version of Awakening does. Money talks, as usual. Therefore anyone who has the slightest desire to see the last Otherworld game needs to buy this remastered version when it is released, whether they already have the original or not - as the number of copies sold of this game will have a decisive impact on whether the last Otherworld game ever comes to pass.

We really need to support the HOPA developers we have left.

That's interesting to hear about Boomzap. I played both of those series but I didn't know Otherworld was by them. I played it long, long ago before I paid attention to posts in the forum here. Maybe you can remind us of this information at the time the remake of the Awakening game comes out? yes

Hi, Marian!

Aw, gee! I guess I'll have to take one for the team laugh ! I beta-tested the remastered "Awakening: The Dreamless Castle" and couldn't make up my mind whether to buy it or not when it's released. I do have the original and enjoyed it (I purchased it on 02/15/10), but this one was having a hard time holding my interest. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood (which has happened before) so I'll give it another shot. I believe I have all of the games in the Awakening series (7 altogether so I hope I didn't miss any), and would like to add the final one to my collection.

In the meantime, I'm trying to find 2 CEs to buy so I can take advantage of the Easter BOGO sale wave2 !

Yes, Susan, I will take one for the team as well! I have played the original Awakening twice and enjoyed it very much, but I don't need a remastered version (although there will be a bonus game this time around). I will be buying it, though, for the reason I mentioned above.

I hope you can find a couple of CEs to your liking during this sale. wave

Hi, oldbroad!

I remember playing a CE and not enjoying it at all. Several months later, I was looking for a SE to use a coupon on. I found one that looked familiar, so I played the demo just to refresh my memory and ended up buying it. I recognized the game and chocked it up to the mood I was in when I played both demos because I was wishing I had bought the CE lol !

I found one CE for the BOGO sale, so now I have to find the second one. I've got to the end of tomorrow, so I can take my time and play a few demos.

Have fun with whatever games you end up with as well smile !

Susan

Hi, Marian!

The sacrifices we make lol ! Unless a game really stands out, it doesn't take me long to forget the details of most games I play, so the remastered versions are new to me blush . I certainly don't mind doing my part if it means more new games to enjoy. I'm glad you posted the info because, otherwise, I probably would have passed. I did enjoy "ReDrawn: The Painted Tower" because the graphics were such an improvement and, if I recall correctly, I think there were also a few changes made to the game itself. In fact, I enjoyed that one more than the original.

I also beta-tested the new "Crossroads: Escaping the Dark", which looks very good but, with things being the way they are around the world, it will probably be a while before it's released. I have one CE picked out for the BOGO sale, so I'll go through the list of releases on BF's website and find another one.

I haven't posted here for a while but visit the board daily and keep up with the news yes

And am amazed that ANY companies in that vicinity are managing to carry on in the dreadful current circumstances praise

My thoughts are with them all hearts

(And I bought two games from Big Fish just last week thumbsup)
