I'll be interested to hear whether you like it or not. I don't think the game was too popular. I played it a very long time ago and I think I liked it well enough. What OS are you playing on and is it working okay?

Hi OB, If you're referring to the Dead Mountaineer's Hotel, I found it odd I didn't see this released back in the day. With that said, I'm using steam to play it & it works fine with win11. The dialogue/characters isn't so great but I do like the story line & game play. I'm playing a 2nd time around and enjoying it.

Sorry, revco. Yes I was referring to Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. It's good to hear that it works on Win 11 and that you are enjoying it (for a 2nd time). I may try to replay it someday as I don't remember too much about it.

LOL! I had such a hard time with the pool game. I just wasn't understanding how it worked. I was just trying to shoot the balls into the pockets without using the cue ball. I forgot MaG put that in there.

I am replaying the last (so far) installment to the Tex Murphy series, Tesla Effect. The last I played it was when it was first released 2014, wow 11 years ago. I forgot how much I enjoyed this game, currently in Day 8 and re-loving it but it also makes me sad that the fan made game Poison Pawn has been postponed as has the fabulous HD update to the Pandora Directive. I am hoping that both will eventually be restarted as now I am starving for more Tex Murphy.

I also love the Tex Murphy games. Chris Jones is beyond perfect in his role as Tex. They could easily have made a successful television series based on that character.

I started replaying Pandora Directive recently, but decided to wait and see if the remake would be completed sooner or later. It wasn't until I read this thread that I realised that it has been put on hold.

While the original game still has its charm, I did find the movement pretty clunky and rather difficult. This is no fault of Access Software by any means, since they more or less invented the system, and it was extremely innovative at that time. But time has proven that pushing your mouse backwards and forwards isn't the best way to move around in a scene.

I've been meaning to ask if you had any trouble with the car/plane sequence. I remember some people here complaining about it.

One of the puzzles I wasn't fond of. I used a walkthrough to help guide me through it.

I went ahead and started two different games tonight, Gilbert Goodmate and the Mushroom of Phungoria, and Lost Horizon 2. Not sure about either of them. I only played a short time in each and already used the walkthrough for each. The video at the beginning of Gilbert kept halting every word or so but I didn't have any problem once the actual game started. Lost Horizon 2 keeps freezing up making it very difficult to play, especially since there are "action" elements. I don't know what the problem is. I just played a casual game on Steam that kept freezing up also but I thought that was just that particular game. Now I'm not so sure.

I quite enjoyed Gilbert Goodmate - and indeed wrote a mini review of it for Gameboomers at the time

I am having trouble with the mouse in the conversation topics in Gilbert and finding it long winded but it is okay so far. It doesn't make me want to play it for too long at a time though.

With regard to Lost Horizon 2, I can only play it for very short periods of time because then it starts to freeze up on me. I have made it past the motorcycle chase without much problem though and I had been dreading it. It is actually quite easy once the game tells you what to do, and after the second attempt I think, there is a skip button. The bad part of the game is that there are only 10 save slots and I am already overwriting them.

I just went through my "archives" and found "Dead Reefs" which I remember I started to play long time but gave up - the movement was terrible and frustrating ! I tried using a Logitech smart mouse but that did not work either. I was wondering if anyone here had any luck and what did you use. This may be one for Dead Games pile !

Sureshot, I played the game using the keyboard controls. It was annoying at first but I liked the game so much otherwise that I gradually got used to it. If I hadn't liked the game, the motivation would not have been there to pursue it.

I have also played the game (2 times) using the keyboard and must have been okay with it. I like the game too!

The game had such atmosphere. It is hard to understand why the game was not point and click; it is a shame, as I believe it kept some people from playing it who otherwise would have really enjoyed it. Great music, too.

OK - This is my second try at it -- I must have liked it too -- since I kept it on my PC so long hoping to play it one day.. I will give it another try - I do like the way it looks and sounds.
