Good Sunday afternoon! Winding down after the week of guests and family events.
My step-son and DIL are utterly exhausted after a week of their house being full. Plus, those two littles are on GO, GO, GO all they time! DIL said, "Now I know why you have kids in your 20's and not your 50's!" The littles are 3 and 5 and spent every minute of the day in the pool. They are just adorable, but bundles of energy. I got to spend some time with grand daughter's MIL and we really hit it off. She loves to cook and I was showing her some photos on my phone of all the stuff I do with my tomatoes, peppers, garlic, etc. She said, "Some day... you and me in the kitchen!" She made a Puerto Rican rice that was just wonderful. Everyone went home from there this morning too. DIL said, "I never thought I would EVER look forward to going back to work!"
Oh, dear, oldbroad. Those ants are not a good sign... they like moisture, so I hope you don't have a leaky pipe somewhere! We have someone come in and spray our house every fall and spring. Mostly, we need to keep the bugs out so we don't get an infestation of brown recluse spiders. This old farmhouse was full of them when I first bought the property 32 years ago. I've learned to keep things picked up in the house too - spiders and bugs love those places.
It's spring. My life is weeds.

Oldbroad !! I hope you can get rid of those pests 🤞
I hate insects of any kind getting into my property but several years ago, in a previous house, I did suffer an horrific invasion by ants into one room. And had to repeatedly use powder (ant poison) for nearly two weeks before I got rid of them.
The dogs had to be kept locked out of that room, of course, but made sure I was made aware of their extreme displeasure at the nerve of my taking such an action !! 🙄

Good morning everyone! And happy Birthday to Lex! New week. 18 Celsius and cloudy. No drama except for the favourite cafés all being closed this week. Presumably because of summer vacation and good weather. I have to make do with emergency use instant coffee. But here in forum there's still the excellent WADDB. Happy Monday GameBoomers!

Good morning everyone.
Yesterday's walk turned out to be a 3-hour slog up and down hills. I can walk indefinitely, but as soon as there's a hill my asthma kicks in, slowing me down and making me huff and puff. Still, it was a beautiful hike on a hot and sunny day and although I was utterly exhausted when I got home, my blood pressure registered as normal for the first time. Not that I would go for a three-hour uphill hike every day, but that was encouraging.
Fogfighter, why are the cafes all closed? Is that an annual thing?
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Monday afternoon everyone. My morning started with chores, errands and a grocery run. Woo Hoo Hoo happy birthday Lex! Don't overdo the walks Hagatha. OldBroad, wishing you luck with your ants...our antageddon problem dealt with clearing vegetation back from the house to prevent ants from using it as a bridge to enter. Fogfighter, hope your favorite cafe is open tomorrow. Draclvr, sounds like a fun time had by all. Take care and have a wonderful afternoon everyone

Yes and no. My favourite cafés tend to be run by locals who honour the tradition of summer vacation in July. It's their decision of course but they too want some time off. Often not the full five weeks but rather one or two. This year it seems all the favourites took time off at the same time. But no big problem. I'm going away too tomorrow. And there's always instant coffee.

Good Morning Fogfighter, connie, hagatha, soot, Draclvr and everyone. Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready! Fogfighter enjoy your time away today! Hagatha I walk every day a minimum of 3+ miles often 4+ miles if the weather permits. I live in the country and walk with 2 of my neighbors...up and down the rolling hills on our country road. There are miles of state forest along one side of the road and 450 acres of woods on the other that was once a farm. My kids got me a Garmin fit watch for Mother's Day this year and set it up for me. It keeps tract of my walks, heart rate, sleep etc. It even tells me my fitness age...I'm soon to be 82 and it says my fitness age is 63! Sure wish I was 63 really again! It's going to be a hot humid oppressive day today...hope you all have better weather! Enjoy your day! Gerry

Good morning everyone.
We're going to get some much-need rain today and tomorrow.
Gerry, I wish I could find someone to walk with more often. My neighbourhood streets are fine but they don't give me much of a cardio boost even if I walk at top speed. I'm not comfortable walking on the longer trails by myself, for safety reasons and also because of my various joint issues, which can easily make walking almost impossible if i strain them. I don't want to get stuck out in the woods.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good morning everyone! We really enjoy our Garmin watches too Gerry. I'm off for a grocery run but first I'll finish my second cup of WADDB and a bagel. I concur 150% that you don't want to get stuck in the woods by yourself Hagatha! Have a great Tuesday everyone

Thanks everyone. I did drop in earlier, but just didn't have it in me to post anything. It's been a rough few days. Bella the Bloodhound had a very peaceful passing Monday morning. After sharing a bratwurst with us Thursday night, that was it. We started taking her outside on a leash because she wanted to go under the pool deck and then we can't get her out! Saturday morning all the company left, so it was a quiet day. I was still up close to midnight and she had me out walking with her for about 15 minutes. To the barn for some water, a quick pee in the front pasture, back to the garage for more water and back inside. Sunday morning she took a long walk with hubby around the barn and chicken house all the while with Wally the barn cat rubbing all over her. Hubby laughed and said Wally's going to miss her too. It's hard to know how much discomfort she was in, but she never acted like she was in pain. Grandson was off work Monday, so he came out and helped us get into hubby's big truck.
We ordered pizza Sunday night and she mustered the strength to beg hubby for his pizza crusts just like she always did. A fitting last meal.
Bella the big stinky Bloodhound has left a very big hole in our lives. They are all rough, but this one is really hard.
It's spring. My life is weeds.

Drac, I am so very sorry for your loss of Bella. My heart breaks for you, hubby and Wally. I know the hole it leaves in your heart and I can't think of any words that could possibly make it better except that Bella was as blessed to have had you in her life as you were to have her.

Good morning everyone. Draclvr, saying goodbye is never easy, especially to such a loyal and loving friend. I hope you find comfort in Bella's memories and the unconditional love you shared.

I think I can finally say Good Wednesday morning. We had a little thunderstorm late yesterday afternoon and I got up to go let Bella in because she hated thunder. Then I remembered. I think that will happen for awhile. Thank you, all, for your kind words. I know most all of us know what it is to love your furry family members.
The cat who is mostly indoor woke me up at midnight last night with her obnoxious loud meow. I just said, "Hi, Miss M. Go back to bed, Miss M." Then I hear squeak, squeak, squeak and the chase is on in my room. I kept thinking, OMG, she's going to jump up on the bed and let that mouse go! But after a few minutes the uproar stopped. So I don't know if I have a terrified mouse under my dresser or a dead one. I'm sure she's catching them downstairs and bringing them up to me. I found a dead one outside my door yesterday morning! I mean, Good Kitty for dispatching the mice, but don't bring them upstairs to me!
It's spring. My life is weeds.
