Neyyah is set within a collection of remote almost abandoned islands,
separated by a series of complex portal machinery and laced with the
fingerprints of two intriguing cultures. You have been sent there by Vamir,
on a matter of urgency.

A wrong needs righting, one that will require you to traverse the islands,
linking the portals, unlocking contraptions and deciphering clues as you go.

Thank you flotsam and Drac! So, it sounds like you can save at will? Is it just one save or multiple?

This - “high expectations can unfairly result in reduced impressions.” - is something I suffer from. blush

This sounds and looks very good. I played the demo and really enjoyed it. Mechanical, FMV, islands.......right down my alley, how can you do any better. I like that stuff. Riven, one of my favorites, will no doubt be joined by Neyyah

Thanks for the detail flotsam

Thank you Drac

Having moved on a couple of hours, one thing I feel I should add is mention of the many cutscenes. These are generally short (pull a lever, go up in a lift, push a button, open a door) but they can also be a lot more elaborate (take a ride), but regardless of which, all add to the dynamism of the environment.
Completely unrelated, and in another nod to accessability, you can choose to make the texts in documents you find easier to read; the cursive and sometimes florid handwriting gets 'translated' into much more basic and easier to read text.

Several more hours in (12ish in total so far) and it continues to deliver. I dare say it will come in at a very decent playtime 😊

Thanks for the helpful review. You mentioned that the game provides feedback on whether a recent turn was a 90 degree turn or a 180 degree turn. If both types of turns are encountered, that is an essential feature. Not needed in Carol Reed games where the turns are rarely (if ever) 180 degree turns, but I sure would have appreciated knowing the type of turn I was making in Riddle of the Sphinx...at times I became very disoriented.

I point, therefore I click.

Glad it was helpful.
Re turning, it tells you before you turn. So if moving the mouse left of screen indicates 180 degree, you can decide whether or not you need to look back the way you just came or just move forward. If it’s 90 degree then you can make a decision about whether to look that way.
I don't remember how ROTS worked, but I do agree it can be disorienting when you don't know where you are looking.
Relatedly, your forward moving directional arrows might also indicate you can veer left or right, and there are look up or down indications as well.
If it sounds busy, in practice it really isn't.

Thanks Flotsam

About the 7 years in the making, Here is a video from the developer recorded just a few days ago. Neyyah developers Video

I am six hours in and although I am confused, lost and disoriented, I find the game running perfectly. More on what I am having trouble with later as I progress.

Just to let you know that I hit a glitch recently which, having interrogated the Steam discussions, was quickly patched but which won't unfortunately fix progress past the event which triggered the glitch. One door lock scenario affected another, and as the maker says on Steam "The patch will only take effect on a new game where progression didn't effect this scenario. If you have any previous saves, please revert to one, or new game will refresh everything".
Having posted on Steam the maker gave some further info as to at what point I need a save, which I don't have, and I am too far in (about 15 hours give or take an earleir save load and time elapsed while checking a walkthrough) to start again. He also invited me to discuss it further by mail which I will do.
His responsiveness is impressive, as is evident by the Steam postings. I will let you know how things progress, but if you are some way along you might want to check out where he says the triggering event occurs, and restore a save before that point if you have already reached it.

I hope you can progress without too much replaying, flotsam. Thank goodness for save at will and multiple saves anyway. I save and save and save if the game allows me to but even then, if there is only one save slot it doesn't help a lot.

How disappointing. Starting over after this much time invested in the game sounds awful.

I am 20 hours into the game and if Steam Achievements are any indication I am just over half way through the game. I have not experienced any glitches and curious about exactly what you experienced. Even though I save a lot, probably more than any game I have ever played, I don't think I would want to start over as the game has a massive area to explore and things to figure out. Except for a few personal preferences in game playing, I am really enjoying the game.
