A long time ago, when I was using Win7 to play my BF games, I had to give up on one that I really liked because if an action was taken that was not in the "expected" order of actions a player should take, the game crashed.
[ A problem that was not uncommon in those days, more especially in Adventure games, as I quite frequently found out wink ]

Big Fish were unable to help and offered me another game instead .. which I accepted.

Well, I've never forgotten the "action".
It was to find and keep a page out of a certain book in a walled bookcase before trying to open a previously untried door into the next room.
I did find the page and read it - but then put it back in the book and the book back into the bookcase - not realising I was supposed to keep it.
And that was the end of that. Because when I tried to open the door the game crashed eek

Since I moved my BF account to Win10 I've been hoping to "re-find" the game and buy it again but despite looking through the zillions of PC games at BF (in stages, obviously) I've never been able to.

It had "real life" type characters - not in any way cartoony - and I had thought it contained Black, Deceit or Veil in the title but can't find anything using any of those words that is the one.

I did discuss it and my problem with it here at Gameboomers but it was so long ago that those posts probably no longer exist.

So I'm posting this message just in case it might stir a memory in someone. [Which, of course, is highly unlikely crazy]

I am wondering if it might be Web of Deceit: Black Widow or Web of Deceit: Deadly Sands. I seem to remember your having a technical problem with one of those. I haven't tried to play either of them on Windows 10/11 as yet. I still haven't played Deadly Sands and I played Black Widow on Windows 7.

Can it be Fear For Sale: The 13 Keys? I have a notation on my game list that you had a problem with this game and it involved a page and a book.

That sounds like a definite possibility too, as the characters were not cartoony (and they weren't cartoony in the ones I mentioned either).

Thank you for your help, ob. smile

Also, how about Mystery Case Files: The Black Veil. I noted a problem with this game regarding a book and a door.

I don't know about the characters Marian as I never played Fear for Sale yet. Just doing a "search" in my game list.

All I can say is WOW. You ladies kept notes - - - well, so did I, but only because I was writing walkthroughs. It never ocurred to me to keep the kinds of notes you did. I am truly impressed.

Co-workers used to accuse me of having too many notes but I always had the answers my boss was looking for. Not that it was appreciated...

So - while we are 'can't remembering' -

There used to be a series of games from a guy in Cairns, Australia. Totally homemade, and pretty good. I collaborated on one of them because it had crossword puzles included and I helped with the clues. Can't remember for the life of me either his name or the name of his games. Purely puzzle, no story.

Anybody?

Anybody who took notes? lol

I hope Marian's got your answer, Tally Ho. This is not something I know anything about, so, no notes. smile
