So, I have started to play Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey, which seems to be a Jack the Ripper story mixed with "Arthurian legend". I've played about an hour - so far, so good, except you cannot tell when it is saving. Googling tells me it saves frequently though, after some conversations or scenery changes. We shall see. I'm also reading there isn't a lot to the actual gaming as far as puzzles go but the game looks and sounds good so far, so I'm okay with that. Point & Click and some choices to be made. One mini game so far where I had to click at the right time on a moving line. Apparently I got it right.

Space Quest Fan, I hope you found something interesting to play. Let us know.

I am not so sure these are classified as, Adventure Games, but because I have been starving for any new game releases in the realm that I like I jumped into a replay of the ROOM series as its been a long time. Absolutely brilliant and imaginative games, I love them. I am currently near the end of Room 3 and getting ready for Room 4, it got me wondering if there has been any rumors or talk on the developer working on a Room 5. Hmmm think

Oldbroad, I started playing Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey yesterday. It goes without saying that I’m not to keen on the lack of manual saves either, but at least it seems to save very frequently. I’m not that impressed by the game. This far, the only thing to do has been to walk close enough to characters or objects to interact with them. But I’m not giving up yet.

Yeah Mikael, there isn't really a lot to do. I did mix up some potion in the chemistry shop (in Chapter 2) but I don't even know if I really got it right. I failed and then was trying again but I think I used the same ingredients and all of a sudden it said I was successful. I don't know.

I am not crazy about how you have to walk up close to people and objects to see if you can interact with them or not and I'm also not crazy about the footsteps you need to find to change scenes. Last night I had no footsteps and was stuck on the dock, possibly because I had gone there already and shouldn't have. I ended up having to exit out of the game hoping I wouldn't lose any progress. I went right back in to check and my progress was fine and the footsteps were there - also the dog who was not there when I couldn't find the footsteps, but she had been there when I went there the first time which I did while not following the script, so to speak. I hope that makes sense. I'm thinking stick to objectives and after they're met, wander around.

I do like Jack the Ripper stories though and am not really familiar with Arthurian legend so I am interested to see how the game plays out.

Please let us know if you continue or not.

I didn’t continue Dance of Death. The graphics and voice acting were top notch, but the lack of puzzles, the endless walking and the talking dog made me lose interest.

Instead, I started Mata Hari from 2008. I recently played Lost Chronicles of Zerzura, and was thoroughly impressed. So I decided to try another game by the same studio, Cranberry Productions. Mata Hari has been standing in my shelf since it was released, but I hadn’t gotten around to play it yet. And much to my surprise, it plays perfectly on Windows 11 (with a minor glitch in the animated sequences, but I can live with that).

Mikael, I missed your post from last week some how. I am still playing Dance of Death. I admit, it really isn't that good but I am getting nearer to the end and will finish it. Some parts of it don't make sense to me. I don't know if that has to do with conversation choices or if it's just me.

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed Alter Ego, sureshot!

I loved Mata Hari and have it on my "to be replayed list" which is quite long. I am curious (question to both of you) are you playing from disc? Sureshot, what OS are you trying to play in? I have the game on disc and also from Steam. I played the Steam game in Windows 7 but I do have it installed on Windows 10 for the hopeful replay. You will need to learn to dance.

I also played Alter Ego recently, and liked it very much. What do you mean that Mata Hari loads OK but won’t play? Do you get to the menu?

Oldbroad, I’m playing Mata Hari from the 2008 disc version. It plays perfectly except from a small graphical glitch when you use inventory items. I can see from YouTube videos that the Steam version has the same glitch.

Thanks Mikael. I just wanted to make sure I understood you correctly that the game was standing on your shelf. That's great that it works in Windows 11. I hope you enjoy the game!

I hope you get the game running, sureshot!

Hi oldbroad -- I play most of my games from USB external Hard Drives which I keep ISO files of DVDs I had. I build PCs and the one I use is basically an Alienware clone I built with 64 gigs Mem Dual NVidia Graphics cards and running Windows 11 Pro. When I try to play Mata Hari, the games loads - I select "New Game" and the game seems to start whereby Mata is speaking about her past etc and then I see her dancing on a stage with a French announcer -- when she completes the dance, the screen goes BLACK and the game crashes to desktop.

I tried a few things like Run as Admin, and instead of running from external drive, I run from my internal D drive.. same result. I don't have the original disk -- all I have is the ISO files I make of most of my games.

If I cannot get this working - I will work on The Black Dahlia !! That runs just fine on my system.

I have it on my computer, ready to go. I am feeling a bit more encouraged about playing it now that I know there is a skip for certain of the puzzles - hearing about some of them had intimidated me in the past.

I'm confused, Marian. Part of me seemed to think you had played Black Dahlia before and part of me remembers you saying you would jump on it if GOG ever got it. Anyway, that "skip" sounds good. I do not have this game.

I did say that I very much hoped GOG would get the game, ob, and I still do. I played part of Black Dahlia years ago (about the first 45 minutes) but never finished it. It came with an ungodly number of CDs, too, so lots of CD swapping. And one of my CDs went bad.

Where do you have the game from now?

Heh, heh. I didn't see anyone mention in that other thread that they miss swapping cd's. laugh

Years ago I repurchased the game (I think it was eBay) and I have it running in a virtual machine.

There ARE sites that offer help with the running of Black Dahlia on modern machines but I don’t know if any of them are “legal” think

The most difficult part in the game for me was a long section somewhere near the middle.
It took me MANY hours to get past that 🙄

Black Dahlia had some really good puzzles in the game.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.
