Well, I am an adventure lover too, but I do buy adventure games on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo DS (and whichever console they're on).
I don't understand why you seem to think I shouldn't. It's about the story, about the puzzles, about the world to discover or the murder to solve. What difference does it make what platform it's on? A lot of people think that the adventure genre is dead and that there's only action and sports games nowadays. If there are more adventures on Nintendo DS and Xbox, more people will see them and realize that there are games they can play.
If an adventure is released on several platforms, I tend to buy the console-version, in an attempt to show the developers and publishers that there IS a market for these games. I hope it convinces them to release more adventure games.
I'll be back, one day, when I feel like it.

Hi Hopefully though, Adventure Games will continue to be developed primarily for PC ?? I would hate to think of the priority being switched to any type of console. I have invested heavily in my computers for gaming and with a restricted budget can't afford other machines as well Cheers. Mad

I have to agree with Mad, i don't mind if Adv games are released for consoles as long as they are released for PC as well. My brother owns a PS2 a PS3 an XBOX, an X360 and a Wii but i haven't played any games whatsoever on them simply because of the controls. They are much more difficult for me using a joypad and also because the games that i like playing come out on the pc as well. I haven't seen many adventure games only for consoles due to the fact that adventure gamers are almost entirely pc gamers. Some games come out in more than one platform but it's obvious that that's just a move to make extra money but their basic aim is for the pc. Some pc version of adventure games have or are coming out on consoles (e.g Still Life, And Then There Were None) but it has been limited to only a few. Console gamers are more likely to go for games such as Football/sports, racing and games like Halo whereas PC gamers are more likely to go for multiplayer/single player shoot-em up games, RPG online games and Action/Adventure games. That's how it has always been. My humble opinion

While I 'do' love playing adventure games on the PC (and I am an avid PC gamer), I 'do' see the reasons (esp financial ones) behind some developers' decisions to expand their games to other non-PC platforms. In fact, one may argue that many titles on the consoles are really adventure/action-adventure games in disguise.
I agree with Butcher that as long as the title also appears on the PC, I am ok with it. Having this said, there are many "adventure" titles on the consoles that I would love to have on the PC (Fatal Frame, for example).

Thats the fact , and as pollo said i would like to solve puzzles or mystery in an ag like the old point and click style ,not the action adventure of ps platforms. As an example the longest journey and dreamfall 2 , the first one is a real adventure game i enjoyed playing very much and the second one is an action adventure that made for all platforms ..

But there ARE pure adventures on the PS and Xbox.
I have all three Discworld games, which I can't get to work under Windows XP, so I bought them for the PlayStation and they work perfectly. I have Louvre/Messenger, some of the Atlantis and Egypt games, both Dracula games, Still Life, Largo Winch and Shadow of Memories on console that have also been released on PC. For handheld consoles I have Broken Sword on the GameBoy Advance.
They are still pure point-and-click adventures, that doesn't change once it's on a different platform. The controls are no different, you point with a stick instead of a mouse but that is not more difficult in any way, and you click a round button instead of your mousebutton. No real difference there either. It's certainly not harder than mouse or keyboard.
I also have a couple of pure adventures that are unique to consoles or handhelds, such as Another Code/Trace Memory, The Phoenix Wright games and Hotel Dusk for the Nintendo DS and Fish Files, The New Addams Family and Scooby Doo on the GameBoy. There is no action in any of these, they are not action-adventures in disguise. I still don't understand why I should not play these? If you don't want to play them, that's fine with me, that's your choice. I do, so I don't understand why you think developers and publishers should stop releasing them so I can't play them anymore...
I'll be back, one day, when I feel like it.

Hi I will say again that as long as Adventures are still made for PC I don't mind what other machines they are made for. The more the merrier so that as many people as possible can experience the genre I have only ever tried one console game myself - on some kind of a cube shaped affair. ( ) But have to say that one go was enough to put me off. Didn't like the graphics and couldn't handle the controls. Give me a PC any time !! I know, I know, I am a Wimp Cheers. Mad

I agree with you Mad. I stared out playing Zelda on the old Nintendo that was my son's. As I found out about PC games and was able to get a computer, I prefer computer games. Although when the kids are home, we always get together and play Bomberman or Mario Cart on the gamecube. That being said, I do prefer that adventure games are on PC. I can use the mouse so much better, although I have used a gamepad for a few games on PC. But I also can see that ones that like the joystick or gamepad might prefer a consol game. There isn't the "will it work on my system" problem too. And if more people play the consol versions of games, they will probably want to play more like it and there will be more demand for adventure games in both consol and PC. I think it is win-win for everyone to put the adventure gaming in different formats. (Just as long as I can still play them on my PC! ) Koalanut

I'm with the "more the merrier" group. I like to play on the PC, but also like the ease of use of the consoles--no wondering if it will play, no tweaking and trying again, and it's easier for more than one person to enjoy at the same time. I'm glad to have a choice with some games, and wish there were more AG's coming out for both the PC and the consoles. That way, everyone could play on their favorite platform

I think PolloDiablo has nailed it on the head with his complete listing of adventure games available now or soon to be available for the Nintendo DS - - a great little gaming platform by the way.
I've mentioned this same topic at least twice on this wonderful site and it's interesting to note that the number of adventure games for the DS is increasing. Not so much for the PS2 or PS3 or the XBox 360 but even some of these games - - as pointed out in one of the messages above - - have elements of adventure along with some action (the first three Splinter Cell games were a great combo of these elements).
It only makes sense for the game developers to get their games out for the consoles as well as the PC if they can afford to do so. The more venues that are used will let more folks discover the adventure games and that is good for all

ahhem may I please put my two cents in please I for one agree with The pc point and click gamming pnly because I dont need to use a joy-stick nor would I have to shell out more money for the developers of the game! I guess you really "Cant" teach an old dog a new trick, but then again if you had a really bigger screen say a T.V. and a really great game with a mouse to point and click of course then and only then I will switch from my pc! Never for those other gamming ways Please mr developers please make only adventure games on pc for us boomers Thank You!

You know what this discussion is starting to sound like?
- It's a fact that most people prefer ginger cookies. Why do cookie manufacturers even bother to make other kinds of cookies?
- But I like chocolate chip cookies too!
- Well, I don't, so manufacturers should stop making them and only make ginger cookies. I will not buy any cookies from any manufacturer that makes anything else besides ginger cookies.

I am a personal fan of the DS as a platform that actually is uniquely suited to adventures, as long as they are designed with the DS functionalities in mind. I have every one that is out and plan on gobbling up the rest as they release. What can I say... I love my DS Pollo is dead on about all the games breaking out for it that are pure adventure. Even ole Nancy D. is taking a spin. We're having thoughts on console porting now and the Wii has a lot of interesting features that might make it work well for Adventure styled games. Not sure about it yet, it's a huge cost jump designing for a next gen console, and the game has to be designed for console not just ported to it for it to really work well. - but we have it under deep consideration. But one thing about a console is no worries for the gamer about system specs. And you aren't limited to a monitor screen. Imagine Syberia on HD wide screen, kicking back in your favorite chair with surround sound stereo playing. Yummm Plus for developers, who aren't exactly getting rich lately - it does give you access to a much larger audience - assuming you can build a game with enough depth, interactive fun etc to keep a more mainstream gamer interested. On the other hand, the interface can be a huge clunky jump after the ease of mouse driven games and the cost of designing for console is definitely far above PC based development costs. But.... you never know

I totally agree with you Pollo. I think it is great that we live in a day and an age that we can play games no matter on what system. I work with school kids with special needs and we are studying pioneer American right now. Those pioneers had no spare time, they were too busy trying to feed and clothe families with very little. Even when I was a kid, a computer in your home would be science fiction, and I am not 50 years old yet. So for me to come home and play a game of my choice on the PC to relax, or chat on IM with my daughter in college, or email pictures of my grandson is wonderful, it is truly a blessing! I can know what is happening almost in an instant compared to letter writing in my college days. Then when we get together and break out the gamecube and race against each other or play whatever game we want is such fun. I think that is the point, we ENJOY our games on whatever system. So whatever the format, PC or consol, have fun with it, be thankful we can! Robin
