It's basically impossible to decide this, so I'm fudging it a bit. The game that I live in and enjoy the most is Myst Online: Uru Live. But I know that's partly because of the people in it, not just the game.
Single player -- still thinking about it after all these years. Shadow of Destiny.

It's very hard to tell, but probably Anachronox (being more adventure than many of so called adventure games).

Syberia and Darkness Within. They both had wonderful storylines. :grinch:

my favourite adventure games are lure of the temptress flight of the amazon queen 6th sense investigations (only available for the amiga 1200) i played them without needing a walkthrough and this for me is a sign of a really good adventure game as it shows that the puzzles are logical i have played them over and over again and have just started lure again

My favourite game ever??? I;d think it still has to be Riven. I wish I could play it for the first time again. That and Gabriel Knight: The beast Within.

I cannot name only one - of course the very first computer game I ever played will always hold a very special place in my heart/head and that is Beyond Time! And in my list of mostest favoritist games would be URU, and Around The World In 80 Days, and several others whose names at the moment escape me....(I'll come back here and add them if/when I think of it/them)Love, Betty Lou

I would totally agree Betty Lou, it's hard to pick just one game as the best .... but if I was really pressed I would have to say The Longest Journey. It was the first computer game I played, and unfortunately I often compare the way I felt playing that game to how I feel playing a new game. Lots just don't compare. Some that did are Riven and Keepsake. I like games that are visually attractive - make you want to just walk around and enjoy the scenery as well as play the game.
Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

The Broken Sword series wil always have a place on my hard drive, along with Fahrenheit and Still Life - trouble is (despite my post), there are just too many good games out there. I've been messing around with computers for about 10 years, and I believe that we are now in the Golden Age of Adventure Gaming

I will be unfair to the many games which i liked but my favourite Adv Game was Still Life. I loved the investigations and the storyline and was disappointed a bit with the end. Now that the news arrived that the sequel is in production a wish came true. I just hope the sequel is as good as the first one with the same atmosphere and an equally strong storyline. The fact that i am only 22 means that i haven't played some of the older adv games which were released and many people liked.

I'd have to say "Post Mortem and Still Life" are my favorites. Great storyline and graphics. Glorius news about "Still Life 2".

Myst or RealMyst. I played the original one way back when it came out. I still love to go back to it for the music and ambiance.

The best adventure game ever is Azrael's Tear.
Also, I read Butcher's post above and I want it to be illegal for anyone to be 22.

I'll add two favorites. URU may be the prettiest game ever made and Drowned God may be the most unique. When I was 22 I was still trying to figure out how a slide-rule worked. (If someone is 22 he has no clear idea what that is!)
If all the people were heroes, there would be no one to watch the parades.

When I was 22 I was still trying to figure out how a slide-rule worked. (If someone is 22 he has no clear idea what that is!) Boy, isn't that the truth--I was amazed to discover that my electrical engineer grandson didn't even know what a slide rule was!! As for favorite games, it's pretty hard to pick, but GK2 and the Syberia games are right up at the top of the list...

Black Mirror, for its gripping story and atmosphere, the final stunning twist in the tale - and all that rain. Boy, did it rain.
Still Life, for its suspense, its powerful plot, its fiendish puzzles and its wonderful characters.

 Too many favourites to mention!

I have several favorites, but if I had to pick just one, I would have to say Gabriel Knight The Beast Within, the reason being that the entire time is still so vivid in my mind; it made a very big impression. Most games, after a few years, I only retain rather spotty recollections of. Ray, Azrael's Tear is way up there on my list, too. I think some adventure gamers might have been put off by what seems like a strange interface initially, but it is such a good game. A way-underrated adventure game. And it runs well now under the latest build of DOSBox. Here's a good review of it for anyone who might be interested: Azrael's Tear review | | |
