Hi guys

I've been trying to play this demo. I've downloaded it twice. Once directly from the game web site, and once from the link here on Boomers on the off chance that the files were different.

I've installed it with my internet locked down and my virus software disabled.

It installs just fine. The opening video of dolphins and birds and swooping along the freighter plays just fine. However, when the game play actually starts {cells start on the screen and the girl lying down starts to move} the game slows way way way down. It seems to play a frame, pause, play a frame, pause, etc.

I've tried turning off the shadows and that makes no difference.

I've booted up in safe mode and that doesn't help.

I've tried letting it run to see if it's just that sequence and nothing improved.

I ran Belarc, but holy moly, that was too much info.

So here is my system info and if you need more info let me know.

Win XP Professional SP1
3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4
1 GB Dual Channel DDR400 SDRAM
1536MB
Sound Card: DirectX Version: 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)
52X32X52 speed
Video Card: 128 DDR NVIDIA Geforce FX5200 Ultra

Thanks guys

Hi, L4L.

Click start-->run-->type dxdiag-->click ok. Then click the display tab and tell us what version of drivers you're running. It'll be a series of numbers.

**edit**

I don't speak French, but I understand enough to see this adventure game is pretty darn demanding as adventures games go smile

Quote:
Windows Vista/XP
Pentium IV 2 GHz ou équivalent
1 Go de RAM
Carte graphique GeForce 6 ou équivalent , 128 Mo de mémoire vidéo
Carte son compatible DirectX 9.0
Lecteur de DVD-Rom
DirectX 9.0c (inclus)
1,5 Go d’espace libre sur le disque dur

Your FX5200 is pretty weak in comparison to those system requirements. That card is very outdated. It's time for an upgrade. If you want recommendations, post the brand and model number of your computer and I'll be glad to help smile

I'll think about upgrading, but this is the first game I've tried to run that it won't handle. It's still under warranty, but thanks for the offer.

I'll take a look at the dxdialog and post it back to you.

I know my video driver is up to date though--just updated it this weekend to play Evil Under the Sun.

Edit: My direct X is up to date to--the installation of the game confirmed that.

From dxdialog: main driver nv4_disp.dll ver 6.14.0011.6921

Yes. Your drivers are up to date. The problem is your video card is too slow to run it. That card was originally released in March of 03. It's been out for almost 5 years. However, I guess there's really no need for you to upgrade since it seems to be suiting your needs. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help with your game.

**edit**

You might try turning off anti-aliasing (and any other advanced graphical features) and lower your in-game screen resolution if it has that option. Set it to the lowest resolution available.

Thanks Robert for trying to help.

I'll check into upgrading the video card, but that is not going to happen today wave

If you have any background applications running (anti virus) etc turn them off when your playing it may help "some" but i doubt it but well its worth a try.

Also try going into nvidia panel and turn on all settings to high performance or similar if possible like mipmapping.

You could try some different drivers as some give more performance than others, note that latest isnt always fastest and latest usually is just optimisations for the newest cards. The older cards might suffer performance from newest drivers so you could try a variety of drivers if you want to see if theres any good performing drivers for your card.

More than likly tho you will need to update the gfx card hardware. If you get one second hand you could grab a bargain off ebay for not much money.

I had the same problem but this worked for me.
Edit the experience112.cfg file in the games root directory. This way, you can set things like "Lighting", "Glow", and "Noise" to false and gain some extra frames. Make sure you edit the file in Wordpad, though. Notepad won't display it properly.
Got this advice from another forum.

Thanks Skeeter. I did try with my net locked down and my virus scanner and counterspy turned off, but it made no difference. I do appreciate your response though.

Thanks Dyl'smom wave I'll give that a try.

MPC is sending me a quote for a new card as well as some extra memory. So I may be upgrading, but then again, I may not be puppy

If the cfg file isnt too big you can post it up here and we can then let you know what to change to try to get you more performance.

DirectX Version: 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902) ??
Could that be part of the problem?
Don't most games want DirectX 9.0c now?

Current is 4.09.0000.0904 at least mine is and im usually upto date with dx versions.

So try updating direct x. Download this and run

Dont know if it will get you playable frame rates tho, maybe a few but i dont think this will help in the long run.

Also your running sp1, not sp2. Which also could be a problem. Tho i understand you not wanting sp2 as it can cause old games to not work.

Ok, Direct X is up to date, but it made no difference.

Will go look for the cfg file.

Back in a few

Edit: I see .arc; .dll, .exe, .ini, and .log files. Nothing there says .cfg

looney4labs,

I think I changed the ini file, and I changed lighting, glow noise from true to false. Also turned off shadows.

Hope that helps.

The .ini thats also a form of configuration file. Open with wordpad copy the contents and post them in a post here. (if not too big) If it is large just find the graphic settings if you can.

Try setting things in renderer to false then save and go ingame and see if it works and also for better performance.

BACKUP the file before you change anything tho.

Also go 1 by 1 on the changes then if something breaks the game you know what it was you changed so you change it back and ur ok again.

Yes. You should be able to run it just fine, lexxy. That was the whole reason for upgrading your video card. So you could play the new games with good performance. The 7900GS is many times faster than the FX5200.

Even the slowest card on the chart below (the ATI X1300) is much faster than your old FX 5200, and look how much faster your new 7900GS is. Just look at the bar graph. The bars in blue are the selected cards (X1300 and 7900GS).
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2...0&chart=318

The FX5200 isn't on the graph because it's too old.

Use search and look for files created or modified on the day you downloaded it.

Another thing you could do is click on another demo to download it, and see what default folder comes up as the destination. It should be the same destination as the last download. You wouldn't have to download the file. You can cancel once you find out the destination.
