Just finished this much anticipated game and have mixed feelings. This character moved as fast as a geriatric snail and I felt like prodding him with something sharp and pointy, but then I looked at my clock and it was 5AM. It was certainly atmospheric and I couldn't stop until the end BUT he was called "lad" and said he was 30. I actually laughed at that. The puzzles could sometimes be completed by accident and being a nearly a fen girl(over 30) myself the geography and accents were unconvincing. Am I just being pedantic? and does anyone agree or seriously disagree with any or all of this?

Yes you are right about the geography, Saxon is here in southeast Cornwall and down here you are a lad if you are male and the person talking to you is 30 years older that you.
See the lost Crown web site for details of exactly where the photo's were taken.
I loved the game and had no problem with him being slow moving, we don't rush around down here we take our time and smell the roses ( well, more the water, the seaweed and fish.) thumbsup

I wouldn't want to smell the water, the seaweed and the fish. Would make me sick.

wave Hello, all!

I think I need to play 'Lost Crown' again. First time through, I found this game just didn't do it for me. I think I might have to replay to see what I missed...

Hi Guybrush, on a hot summer day like today, if you climbed off the boat on the quayside in Polperro aka Saxton you would smell just that plus coffee and suntan lotion. Maybe it's a good thing we don't have "smells" in our games. What do you think the town smells of in Dead Reefs? rotfl

I felt that way about the movement and was taken to task for it. It was an absorbing game though!

It certainly is more picturesque than the fens. Miles and miles of black soil and it smells of pigs in places (makes fish smell like perfume!)

cris53, as I was once an RAF wife I have lived in many parts of the UK one of which was a small village near East Dereham. I well remember taking the children to your amazing beachs. Wonderful and empty because people did not bother to walk a mile from the carpark. Also driving along very flat roads and being able to see for miles and miles with windmills in the distance.
And yes I remember the farmers spraying the fields with something that smelt very nasty eek
GBC if you ever come to the UK make a point of coming to Cornwall as it has so much to offer from history,to wonderful countryside and for relaxing. Just be careful if you are offered scrumpy woozy

Hey Guys,

Does anybody know where you can download a Demo of The Lost Crown?

I have serched the internet to no avail. I like the sound of this game but now I like to try a Demo before I buy.

Regards

Our investigative expert (Chief) has not found a demo for The Lost Crown -- I know because one doesn't appear here, where links to trailers and demos for recent games or upcoming releases are posted.

If he hasn't found one, then it probably hasn't been released yet.

Aww just buy the game. It's a good one even if the movement of the characters is a little pokey!

I haven't played the game but I have read that as for the movement of the heroe it's slow bacause it has to be slow, it's part of his role and the general atmosphere around...

Jonathan deliberately made the characters quirky (they all sound psychotic) and left the movement animation a bit weird, I think.

I agree with you about the movement, and what irritates me is that there's no way of skipping dialogs, you just have to wait until everything's been said and they talk so slowly.
Still haven't finished it. I don't really like it, but maybe I will change my opinion at the end of the game 'cause everyone seems to like it very much smile

I liked the atmosphere and the story line. The graphics were good and the puzzles were fun. The dude was just too slow for my sensibilities.

I'm curious... why did Jonathan include these idiosyncracies/ quirkiness in this game? It seems like deliberate design. My theory was he wanted an Independent Developer feel for the game - a sort of Night Shyamalan signature (Night's movies have certain common elements with each other. For example, he makes a cameo appearance in each movie. Jonathan does the voice over for at least one character in each game).

Notice how each game has little reminders or connections with an earlier game? Playing his games successively is like watching a TV series.

I think Nigel's speech habits might have been by design (assuming one interpretation of the game that's been discussed in a spoiler thread). I don't know about his walking animations or the inability to skip past previously heard dialogs.

Are there any gruesome parts or is it more ghostly, don't like gory.
Thanks

For the most part it is not gory, but there is a part that involves animals that is pretty sickening, even though it does not last long.

Hi anne2,

There's only one unsettling scene with a bit of gore, close your eyes and it's gone in a few seconds. Other than that, it's just spooky all the way. wave

Dear Becky,

Thanks for your reply and the link. I now know where to go for the latest trailers and demo's. This just gets better and better! I do like to try out the games first before I buy them as I am very selective and only like to play the very best. Also we all have to manage our hard earned dollars.

Best Wishes
Raymond

I haven't finished Lost Crown, yet. I'm at the Museum. Isn't this the first 3rd person game that Jonathan has made? I played the other Darkfall games and I think I am liking this one better for some reason. Just don't want to play it at night when it is dark and creepy ... the music is creeping me out.
