That is so much true Tsavorite... I would never finish this game without a walkthrough...

I have around 400 unplayed games staring at me right now and a list of about 100 more I've yet to buy - 50 or so of these are RPGs which can take me months to complete (I've been playing Morrowind for four months now). I work 10 and sometimes 12 hours a day in a job that has a stress level of 95 out of a hundred most days. I have very little time to play games, which I play to relax. So beating my head against a wall for days trying to figure out some nit picky thing so I can move on is not my idea of fun - and I am not knocking those that enjoy that - matter of fact I admire their sticktooitness - it's just I have neither the patience nor the time.

So do I use walkthroughs??? Darn right I do. If I didn't I'd be dead before I got through half my stack. Do I feel any sort of guilt whatsoever about using walkthroughs? Not on your life grin

I prefer hints to a WT, since you usually see too much with a WT.
But, there are times when it is necessary to find a path through the game (glass maze in Rhem 2 smirk), rather than just a nudge in the right direction. In those cases a WT is welcome.
So, the short answer is yes, and MaG's are some of the best.

Most definitely! And, kudos praise to MaG and the rest of those marvelously brainy people who are able to play through the uncharted territory of each new game, figuring out each turn and twist all on their own idea, and are kind enough to write those of us who cannot do that (me) smashpc a map, without which I would have to give up gaming cry because I'm generally stuck from the get-go. think

I really enjoy mornings. I just wish they came later in the day.

Yes, I use walkthroughs. Although only as a last resort. First I come here for a search through the hints forum, sometimes I use a hints site. If I am really stuck then its definitely the walkthrough that stops me pulling my hair out.

Hi smile

When I started playing, walkthroughs were practically non existent so much determination was required to actually complete some games yes

I am very happy that walkthroughs are now so plentiful and when I am in need, it is usually MaG's selection I turn to first thumbsup whether for just a nudge or a full, all-out solution grin

Cheers.

I always print a walkthrough before I even load a new game. Sometimes I don't need it, but most of the time I like to check my progress and make sure I'm on the right track.

I tried a computer game back in the early 80's - played it for endless hours on end night after night until I finally got the key from around the unicorn's neck. I raced to the secret room, put in the key, and nothing happened. I shut off the computer and never touched another game for 20 years. A friend insisted I try Myst and I really enjoyed it but when I got the sequel, I was hopelessly lost. That's when I discovered walkthroughs. I started buying adventure games and while searching for the best walkthroughs I found Gameboomers and my favorite writer, MaG.

I'm so glad to see that others copy, date, staple, file and otherwise organize their walkthroughs because that's what I do. When I loan out a game, I pull out the folder with my notes, diagrams, hints and the walkthrough to send along with the game.

I guess it's a matter of personal preference, but I'm not ashamed to say I use walkthroughs. They make games much less stressful.

Wait a minute... You played Myst without the walkthrough and it wasn't until you played Riven that you needed one?

Making it through Myst without any hints or help? Impressive!

I use walkthrough like I use tourist guide books. Most often, partitularly for adventure games, I would follow the walkthrough very closely. For other genre games such as Lego Indiana Jones, if I can keep my character from dying or if dying is not a problem, I will only use a walkthrough to find solutions for tough bits and to see what I missed out, such as secret items. In general I will print a walkthrough for every single game I play, if a walkthrough is available.

I use them, also less and less, getting better, try and not look till the game becomes more work than fun, because I cant find something pixel hunting or cant think what to do next,
I also use them to update me on a game I left off for awhile, like Dreamfall, I am Game short right now, Sweating in withdrawals, and
needed to finally finish it, even though its a pain, in the trolls, I get scared, when they find me, I dont want to do this part, PLEASE someone send me a save past the trolls !!!!!!
anyway, using the walkthrough to update myself to where Ive been, since April is been with the trolls for 5 months frown
I need more games!!!! getting ready to swap I think..
also like others, have used walkthoughs for just this type of area, HATE to do timed action puzzles and look for ways around those as FAST as possible

Marcia

I'm really glad that this thread was initiated. I thought was probably the only person who comes to this site that relies on walkthroughs as much as I do. I was afraid if anyone found out, I'd be banned from the site. blush

You're no longer alone escakacs. In fact, I bet most Gameboomers are like me and found this site while looking for hints and walkthroughs. Fortunately Gameboomers is much more than that, but it took me awhile to figure that out too.
