On the BFG forums, they said that they are testing a new build from the developers which is addressing some tech issues.

I had no issues installing but gameplay is a bit sluggish on my laptop (not really surprised). I'm going to wait for the new build and install on my desktop to play instead (better graphics card, more powerful CPU).

I have never seen BFG server so slow. Others are complaining also. After 24 hours and I was only 32 percent downloaded. Can you believe it? I really wanted the game but after reading the problems you are having I decided to cancel the download and wait until the patch comes out and in the meantime get my credit back.

It is hard to believe but I really do have a fast connection normally. BFG needs more servers especially one in Europe is my opinion. 4 servers isn't enough for the millions of customers. I download from Spintop and Gamezebo and it downloads like the wind in a matter of a few minutes at the most.

BFG servers use to do that for me, but not anymore. I guess I will have to write and complain to the tech about this, but again it is not my connection that is at fault. It is so strange the server starts out at the most 10 kb yes I KNOW that is slow, but only BFG server is doing this to me. Than to add insult to injury it slows down after a few minutes to 2 or 3 kb and many times 1 kb. This is true especially with big file games. I have to keep my eye on it or it disconnects on me, or slows down like I said and I have to pause and look for a faster download speed. The most is 10 kb and I am not joking.

I will download casebook or buy it from their site when I hear the Boomers tell me the problems have been fixed.

Sherryah PS Thanks and big hugs to all who are warning us in advance. I don't need more grief with my computer.

I also got the WIC message- just got off chat with Big Fish and they said they are fixing the problem and expect to have it out in the next few days.
Can someone post the link to the WIC download they used? I don't want to start downloading things willy nilly!

Thanks, but I tried everyone one of those and none of them are working and game is still not working. I'm glad that you got it work however. I hope your having fun. Sounds like BF is working on a fix. I will wait it out and see what happens. Good luck to all who have been able to play.

I already have the WIC component and it still won't play. It won't recognize that I have it. I just hope I don't have to download this again, because I'm at 3 times already.

I am assuming if you have an updated PC you already have the WIC, and it's something in the game not your PC. At least the game downloaded and got saved. So here's hoping it's just a matter of installing something else.

EDIT: If you go to BigFish forums for Casebook, there's a simple fix that you can try. I did it and it worked without having to reinstall the game.

Sorry, missed putting this in my last post.

I heard from BigFish today. Looks like it may take awhile to come up with a fix. They sent me a 100% off coupon code for another game. wave

Has anyone gotten the error message that you need Shader Model 2.0? I am getting this error message and so can't even get it started. I will talk with BFG techs tomorrow and see if we can trouble shoot it. I didn't get anything about WIC but will read the BFG blog and see if it applies.

puzzler, if you look at the rest of the thread including the post above you, you will see the game is having issues. They are working on a fix.

I so appreciate Big Fish and their tech support. It sounds like I will be able to play Casebook after the fix even though my error message was different. Three cheers to Big Fish Games! bravo yay happydance

After I did the quick fix, it ran quite well for an hour or so, maybe more. Then my computer went down, no screen at all for anything. The game overheated my video card. I have Radeon 600, which is pretty good, but the game was too much for it.

By the time I took it to the tech, it had cooled down and was fine when he looked at it. I was lucky it didn't burn it.

Flo,

Are you sure it was the game or the quick fix? I tried the fix and while redownloading the game, my screen went black. My video card is now history, also the memory. I'm now waiting on a Dell technician to come by to replace them. cry Could my problems actually have been caused by this game or quick fix? mad Glad BigFish sent me the coupon code, no way I'm going near Casebook again. eek

My tech explained that some games have just too much going on for video cards to take, and if you don't have the right video card this happens.

As far as the WIC fix goes, all I did was delete the old files and reinstall the exact same ones, so I don't really know.

So sorry to hear you lost your card and memory. I know as soon as I got my computer set up again, I deleted the game. Waiting to hear if they are going to reimburse. They did say they would.

Good Luck, Flo

PS I just realized that if it had been the WIC quick fix my computer would still be down, as I still have those files that I reinstalled. So, my bet is that it was the game.

I could not get the game to run, but it sounds like I might be lucky. duh After I un-installed it, my computer was so slow! I ran my Registry Repair by Uniblue, and found 56 errors. I had run Reg. Repair 5 days prior and found 12 errors, which is about normal and I usually run about 1x per month. I don't know if the game caused the problems or not, but you might check it out your registry you have similar problems.

Big Fish could not have been better. bravo They tried to help, and when I could not get the game to work, they gave me credit for another game. I think their record is amazing, having a new game every day, and this is the first one that I think is "buggy".

My computer is a Pentium 4, 2.2GHz, so it is now an "older" computer - just like me! lol

Love ya, BFG!! hearts

From what you posted before, the problem wasn't that your video card was inadequate -- it was that your cooling was inadequate. Usually even video cards without a fan won't overheat as long as ventilation inside the computer case is good enough. If you're using a laptop, they often have limited cooling (except for those laptops that are specifically made for gaming).

I am hoping that the next "surprise DVD" loaded with demos will include this one, *hint hint hint*.

That really is a terribly large download to try to capture.

But if the game becomes successful it will also be released to brick & mortar stores.

If you're playing a lot of games on a laptop that isn't specifically a gaming laptop, you may want to invest in a cooling pad/stand. I have one with a dual fan and it keeps it running cool.

Wow, I've been looking for a discussion thread about Casebook. It has played fine for me so far, but I have been otherwise occupied. How are you liking it when it does play?

I had problems with sounds. Ana gave me a tip. Got it working but crashed twice - on cutscenes and pressing ESC key. smile
Played it twice and wrote a lists of items.

I really enjoyed it. The story and the feeling of doing the detective work is more real than a lot of high budget games.

Take note that Burton's left shoe has thicker sole than the right one.

just finished Casebook - with a little help from my friends

loved it - story line is great and that hunky detective is not so bad either

the epilogue - introducing Case II - looks to be another winner - looking forward to this one as well

I initially had problems downloading. Tried again later at night and the download went smooth; it took about 45 minutes.
Had no glitches whatsoever playing the game so far. I am currently stuck in the bombshelter.
