I am using the WT from MAG. I have just started the game and I am at the dead porcupine with the two crabs eating it. The WT says to wait until the 2 crabs are feasting on the porcupine and then click on the body to 'gotcha'. Then it says to pick up the dead procupine. What is a 'gotcha' and how do I pick up the porcupine? It looks like the cursor is the barred cursor, that the action is not possible at this time. Have I missed something already? How do I pick up the porcupine and how did I get so addicted to adventure games? Thank you for your help.

Hi Garfield,

While the crabs are eating, click on them to pick them up. Once you've got them, then you can pick up the porcupine. luck

Thank you Rushes. I have clicked on the crabs but Mina says "ouch" every time. Is there a certain spot on the crabs I need to click on or a certain time to click on them? I will keep trying. I think I will enjoy this game. Thank you for your help.

It should be while they're busy eating. Try clicking on their body while they're turned away from you. Keep at it, you'll get 'em. This is a great game. luck

I finally got the crabs after getting pinched about 10 times. But now I have another problem. I have been in the small cave on the left of the inland path. I have picked up the flint and the sandstone and then I went out to the boat wreck and used the sandstone on the wood hull. I picked up the wood and the rusty metal and made the knife. Then the WT says to go forward twice towards the inland path and look down. It says to pick up a metal plaque. I don't see the metal plaque. I saw the worms and the other things. Where did they hide the metal plaque? Thank you for your help.

I can't recall the plaque, Garfield. Might you have already picked it up earlier in the game? Check your inventory. Or perhaps it is partially hidden by sand. Move your cursor all over the ground in this area, see if you get a hotspot. luck

The WT says to find a metal plaque at this point in the game. I have ran my curser over everything, the sand, the rocks, the wall, you name it. I looked in inventory and it is not there either. Maybe MAG would know. I am using her WT. Thank you for your help.

The metal plaque is on the ground.
Stand by that wreck that you made the knife from.
Turn around or pan until you see that path that is framed by the big cliff on the right and a smaller closer one on the left where the cave is situated. It goes towards the center of the island. It slowly rises up.
Click forward twice and look down.
You might need to turn a bit to the right to look for it.

I am working on the light sources. I have combined glycerin & boiling water to get candle wax. Now I'm suppose to combine the candle wax and a wick. The problem is that I am out of wicks. Is it possible I didn't pick up all the wicks? I thought I did. Where do I find more wicks? Thank you for your help.

There are 3 wicks in the chest in the granite house. If you have already taken and used those, are you able to disassemble any items you used them with in your inventory, and re-use them with the candle wax?

I tried to disassemble the oil lamp to use that wick but it wouldn't let me. I went back to a save that I had when I picked up the wicks. I checked the chest to see if I forgot one but it was empty. What do I do now? Thank you for your help.

As you already have an oil lamp in your inventory, can you use that for a light source instead of making a candle?

I have two oil lamps in inventory. I know one doesn't work but I don't know about the other one. I just made an oil lamp that is working. I looked through the WT and saw that I only used two wicks but the chest had three wicks (I think). I don't know what happened to the other one. I went to each object in my inventory to see what each one was so I wouldn't miss it and sure enough the wick is not there. I also tried to disassemble the other things I made with the wicks but it would not let me do that. Will it make a difference in the game if I don't make the candle? Thank you for your help.

No, it shouldn't make a difference, this game is very flexible with how inventory items are utilised. Try using an oil lamp instead.

I went back to where I started using the wicks and looked in my inventory. There are only two wicks in the inventory. I also went back to the save where the chest was and there was nothing in the chest to be picked up, the chest was empty. I wonder why I don't have 3 wicks. Anyway, I guess I will move on since I don't have the third wick for some reason. There is another person playing this game too that is a bit ahead of me, I think it's Gillian. Is it ok to ask her if she had the same problem? Thank you for your help.

Did you try using the oil lamp anyhow?

No, not yet.

--------------------

The lost wick has been driving me nuts. I checked inventory in a save after I took the wicks from the chest. There were three. Later, after Captin Nemo was buried and she got the black pearl, I had to go back to the Granit House. I read more about the chemistry notes and then the WT says to go to the front room and place any light source (candle or oil) on the corner wall of the room. The WT says to use a wick and seal fat to make an oil lamp. So this is why I had two wicks later in the game. Mystery solved. I will let you know how the game progresses without the candle.

Thank you for your help.

You'll do fine, don't worry about the wicks. Enjoy the game!
