Well, I'd prefer to build my character up at least somewhat more than most do probably.

I did all the side-quests in Chapter 2 (that I could find) before I went to the main storyline much.

Is it a patch for the original game, or the Enhanced game?

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Would you believe? An hour back, less that that, I started a new game - microsoft has already apologized and closed me down. Didn't even have a chance to save a game - am in the tutorial. What annoys me is the fact that every thing is more gray than it was yesterday, including this Thread. rolleyes

Edit - loaded game and altered gamma in that. Have lost the grayness.

It's for the enhanced game, but it's one of those "if you don't have the problem, you probably don't need it" patches. Here is what it is:

Fixes
======================================================
1) EAX technology problems – this patch resolves problems related to EAX technology, which did not operate properly in conjunction with the game, generating critical errors when activated in the Game Options panel.
2) The patch also eliminates the blur (deriving from “glow” effect augmentation) remaining after cut scenes and dialogue sequences.

Here is a link to where it can be downloaded.
Thanks Maggie!

Hi Nickie!
What is EAX Technology?
I was able to load the game, but am having problems in the tutorial with the game exiting to the desktop and hanging up. My desktop computer is a 2 1/2 year old Dell XPS (I think?), and my video card is better than required. However it only had 1 gig of RAM, so I've ordered more and will install it when it comes in a couple of weeks and try again. I pretty much only use that computer for games, and my laptop for internet and email, so not much is stored on that machine. If you have any suggestions, please feel free.

Andrea, EAX is environmental audio, which is a feature that some sound cards support.

Have you checked The Witcher technical forums to see if there are suggestions for your game crashes? Are you making sure you shut down all unnecessary background programs before running the game (antivirus, etc.)? Are your video drivers up to date? Someone in the technical forum section of this board might be able to help you fix the problem.

2 gigs of RAM will be a nice addition, but I don't think the game should be crashing this way, even with 1 gig.

I had to up my RAM to 2 GB in order to get this game to run smoothly. On 1 GB, it did pretty much what Andrea mentions. Although my computer is an older one, it does have a P3 @ 3.0 GHtz. I'd been meaning to upgrade anyway, so it was a good addition.

I guess 2 gigs is pretty much a prerequisite then! I was just hoping there was some way that Andrea could get the game going now, but perhaps it's better not to hassle with it. smile

I finally made it out of chapter 2! Just starting on chapter 3 now.

I figured out Raymond wasn't on my side anymore, when he wanted to meet in front of the tower and set a trap. I've seen that one too many times to fall for it. The trap always ends up being for you.

Does that mean Ramsmeat was really innocent? (relatively speaking of course)

Andrea, I have some horrendous problems right now, but I can always go to The Witcher for some fantastical problems, which helps a lot! grin I hope you enjoy the game once you get it up and running. thumbsup

For Witcher players, in Chapter One I need to find some myrtle flowers (I'm pretty sure that's what they were) for the witch--where am I supposed to find these? wave

They are near the small village, I take it you are there, also by the fort. You will not have any trouble finding them, it is a large bush with white and yellow flowers.

Marian, are those the white myrtle? If so, there are bushes all over with white flowers on them. luck

The best thing to do while your exploring around, is to hold down the <alt> key. It brings up the name of anything relevant around you.

Thanks, guys! I've probably stared at those white flowers on the bushes any number of times, but obviously my brain was located elsewhere. This doesn't bode well for Geralt, now does it? grin

And thank you for the "alt" tip, Templeton--it sounds like just what I need! thumbsup

Marian- thumbsup

If you have read a book on plants, you will be able to pick the flowers. Have you read lots of books? Steal all you can, you can read them by right click on the book once in inventory and then just give it back. There is a seller of books at the Inn, I bought a lot of those and then sold them back.

Good Luck

Thank you, maggie; I believe that is the problem--the fact that I haven't read the book on plants yet; this would explain why I was unable to pick the flowers. I appreciate your help. thumbsup smile

The RAM seems to be necessary, Marian, but I do think it would be worth it for Andrea to also go into the video options and turn everything way down. Try that and see if it helps, Andrea.

Also turn off your virus protection from your screen while playing, if you haven't done that. It will still be running in the background, but it seems to help.
In the video options, I seem to recall something about grass that turning it off made a big difference. Does that make any sense? I have to go look, unless someone knows what I'm talking about.

Marian, I think in the beginning of the game you also have to have the Herbalism skill selected under intelligence, to be able to identify and utilize the plants. Maybe you acquire the skill automatically as you play, not sure about that one. I'm sorry things are rough for you right now.

Templeton, the answer to your first question is yes. For the second, the girls sneer a lot at each other and say stuff that is kind of funny.

Edit: Ok, I checked. Under the advanced options -I had turned the "grass quality" completely off, and put the shadows and texture on low. I also had disabled the anti-aliasing. As I recall, my game ran much better after that. luck

I turned the grass on the highest setting for awhile the last game I played. But I turned it way down after a couple of hours because the grass was so think I couldn't see the bodies to loot after killing monsters!

Anytime, and read all the books you can and in front of the inn will be a board with some papers, click on them to get the quests, read quest by right clicking and then drop it. It will be in your inventory. Many of the different bushes have different things, get all you can carry to make potions also.
