Seems everybody is ahead of me as I'm stuck trying to find what to do after walking around and talking to everyone. Broke my key on the crack, read everything, had the key fixed but can't ride the scooter anywhere. Talked to a policeman who is still standing out there. Talked to a parrot and the man, but Sylvie won't take a ride on the boat. (Sink with us for 5 euro!) Looking for linguist, James Anderson. I'm trying to do this the old way, no walkthrough.

Sierramindy,

From the WT, did you "Check the entry phone of the tenement building at the corner close to the alley. Buzz 5-R. He's not here."? wave

Hi TLC,
Actually, I have been there several times and buzzed everyone and Sylvie always says, "Why would I bother the dwellers?" and the door is locked. After reading the hint, I went and tried again, especially 5-R, still get the same answer. I've read the 2 letters and the old journal about the Knights Hospitaller and Templars. I notice at the double doors to leave the building there is a hotspot on a panel on one of them and it opens when the hand is clicked on it but nothing to do there that I can see, so am I missing something there maybe? I'm thinking I need to find out something more about James? Where to look?

Before you can find the linguist, the address should be given to your first.
The one you should pursue is the parrot and the owner of the parrot. They know things in town.

Been talking to the parrot (since Sylvie won't talk to the man) and the bird did seem to know James but he wants some fish. Since I posted last I got the watering can out of the garden, and it came apart so I have the strainer or whatever it is. I already have some string and a torn net so I guess I need to fix the net, but how? I can't seem to combine anything in the pocket/inventory. Not even in the large panel. Hmm, maybe I should get the shop owner to fix the net?

The only one missing from your inventory is the wire. You need to cut it and then do some handicraft. Remember grade school?

Well, the string turned out to be the wire and when I cut it everything fell into place and I fixed the net, got the mackeral, but the bird don't want it, he said to feed it to a hungry animal, but he did tell me the address. I tried to feed the fish (wrapped in newspaper) to the cat, but that didn't work so I still have it. After buzzing 5-R, Sylvie says she is going to excavation site. After putting the key in the scooter, and seeing it light up, I tried to get on it but no luck, until finally I put the hand icon on the key and Sylvie took off. Wow! Now I'm trying to get past the guy at the trailer. I have the press card and a sticky piece of cactus and the photo, also some gum arabic and a bent ink cartridge. I think I should put the photo on the press card, but how?
Actually, I don't recall doing handicrafts in grammar school, but I was there during the 1930s depression years, so maybe nobody could afford to do them?

Hi sierramindy,

If you look at the gum arabic you'll see that it's dried up - you need to liquidise it a bit, so try adding something from your inventory to the gum. Then you can stick the photo onto the pass.

Hello sierramindy.
Click to reveal..
Doing some handicrafts. Great. Maybe the cactus leaf would be good with the bottle of dried glue. And from there, mix everything with the Press ID and the picture

Have fun. :happydance12:

I didn't know the gum arabic was dried so I tried using it as it was. Thanks, Rushes, for letting me know that as I thought of the sticky cactus right away and it worked just fine. Also I found out that if one looks at the top of the screen when clicking on something in inventory it says what it is. I missed that little detail somehow, but then the top of the screen is hard for me to see so I wasn't looking up except to save, read the notes, or using the main menu. Now I will keep my eye on it and get more information on stuff. Good thing to know, better late than never.
I didn't see the spoiler warning until now, Chief, but thanks anyway, I could have needed it but fortunately I had already found the cactus so I knew it was part of the solution.

Glad you're on your way again. I started playing this earlier today, and am having great fun with it also, so far.

Btw, you can examine inventory items in more detail by right-clicking on them.

Once again I'm stuck, trying to find coffee for the police officer. Added an open can from the trailer site and filled the watering can with water ... how this is supposedd to help I have no idea. Tried to ride the scooter to maybe a diner or some place for the coffee, but Sylvie won't leave. Just had a wild idea that I'm going to try ... (lock pick?)

I did that, Rushes, and picked up everything that wasn't nailed down, including the thermos. Then I had a hard time giving her the coffee as Sylvie wouldn't do it. Tried to dilute it with the water but that didn't work, but finally thought of the sleeping pills, that did work. Next I needed to start the generator and that part was easy, for a nice change. Went in, looked around, someone came in and Sylvie quickly left so she wouldn't be found there. Now what? She mentioned Anderson so I tried getting on the scooter (Again! That seems to be my first solution to her problems and it never works.) to go to his place but Sylvie, dear girl, won't leave. Which means I'm out of ideas. Again!

Have you investigated the laptop, printed pictures, pilfered things and checked everything inside the trailer? There are a lot of things in there to take and do.

Oh yes, I did all that and could no longer get back in the trailer, also couldn't take the "lock pick" out of the lock even though Sylvie said she didn't want to leave any evidence behind when she took the flashlight, which I also tried to take but the game didn't let me. Reason I couldn't leave the site was because I hadn't found the ring with the metal locator as yet. Once I did she left in a hurry and now it is the next day and I've talked to James. Going now to talk to Simon.

Glad you figured it out. It's a very linear game and won't allow you to leave a location if you haven't completed every action there. Enjoy. smile

Linear is fine with me, I hate making choices. So I like doing what comes next IF I can figure it out. I'm now at a point where all I get is Sylvie, think, and I am, but ... I'm at the car where I am supposed to do something subtle so they won't know it's me, but what? I have a poker. I got rid of the cat with the dead fish which is now on a seat of the car, was that a mistake? I can't remove it now. One hand icon goes on the gear shift and another on the front left wheel but I can't do anything and the poker doesn't work either. I've walked around to an alley where there is an open window, but no way to get to it because there is a guard there, insulting Sylvie by implying she is looking for food in the trash, now really! Did I miss picking up something somewhere that I need now, and please don't tell me it is food from the trash?

It's not food from the trash. lol You're in the right location, though. Behind the guard and by the wall you'll see a bin (search with your cursor for it). Examine the bin and see what you can hook out of it, this object will be useful.

So it wasn't the trash, but close. After I stopped laughing, I found the balloon (!) and it worked okay. Did the sokoban/George Stobbart thing and finally got into the building. Picked up a bicycle chain and pump and I did see a bike somewhere so should come in handy. Got stuff from the desk. Need to find the light switch but can't find the right place. I can barely make out what looks like a light hanging down, but can't see any way to turn it on.

You initially have to make your own light source to be able to see well enough to find the light switch. Try combining items in your inventory, see what you come up with. There's a hook over on the right wall that you can then utilise somehow.

Very good hint, Rushes, took me awhile to figure it all out, but I did. Later, after stowing away in the van and flying somewhere, I'm now stuck in a courtyard with a fountain where I attached a hose before I knew what I was doing. Explored some, found a room with a fireplace, a dirty button, and soot which I cleaned away with a nice broom which is now a dirty broom! Can now see some designs like at the top, but have no idea what to do with them, nor can I clean the dirty button. Then back at the courtyard fountain there is a pillar on the ground that Sylvie can't move, got a plank to use as a lever, Sylvie says something about grease when I put the hand icon on the plank/lever which I don't understand at all. Tried to smooth out the cobblestones by sweeping them with the broom but didn't work. Before I left the van I took a hammer and a shovel from the blue toolbox, and also have a piece of string in inventory. None of this makes sense to me so I need your excellent guidance here. I'll bet you have finished already!

See a fallen column at right side of the fountain.
Across that is the gate. You need to open that gate.
So you need to make a set up to roll that column to the gate (ram it).

As for 'grease' to help the column - cobblestone is not smooth enough to roll that column. So look around and see what you can smooth that cobblestone with. There's potted plant on the left of the courtyard and you have water from fountain.

So the potted plant was the key, never in a million years would I have thought of it. Actually it was the soil which mixed with the water already in place and then smoothed out with the broom (I tried using the broom earlier but didn't work without the mud)
and then the lever worked and away went the column, which is now in the middle of the road, very dangerous to traffic! (I worry about it, silly me! Reckon I'm easily distracted.) So now I'm at the fireplace with a wet napkin tied to a bough with string. Am trying to clean the button but it's too slack to use, so why didn't Sylvie pick a stronger branch? Anyway, I can't imagine what to do next, short of screaming, and that might be dangerous. The crates are gone from the van so somebody is around.
