Is this game better than White wolf's Vampire-Redemption? I like Rpgs and Vampire Games, the other one i have is Dracula-the Last Sanctuary. You could say I'm a bit anachronistic, so i need an update on what are the really hot vampire games to get... I'm also still new to this site.
thanks for your help.

Jeremy, It would be best to post at the forum where the games are discussed: we have Adventure Games forum and RPG-Action forum . Here at Glitches forum we discuss only technical problems of the game.

I had to completely turn off my audio acceleration in order to get the cut scenes to work. A friend has Vista which does not allow you to make changes to hardware acceleration. He is unable to get any of the cutscenes to work.

He is unable to get any of the cutscenes to work. Draclvr, Vista does not have audio acceleration -- not the way previous versions of Windows did. More information herehttp://pc.ign.com/articles/759/759538p1.html For a more technical description, check ***here*** . There is probably some other problem going on with your friend's Vista computer, or everyone with Vista would be having the problem. It could be due to the audio drivers, or missing codecs.

That's exactly what I found in doing some research re the audio acceleration on Vista. I found one technical article that tried to explain the "whys and wherefores," but the one you posted did a much better job of it!
It appears that many - not all - people with Vista are having similar problems. The Vampyre website posted several links for audio card driver card updates for both XP and Vista. I downloaded and installed the one for my XP computer and it solved both the audio and the video issues without having to change the audio acceleration in dxdiag.

I'm having the same problem using Vista in that I'm unable to see the cut scenes.
Draclvr referenced the Vampyre website for audio card driver updates - did that fix the problem? And what is the Vampyre website address?

Thanks,

Robert

I downloaded the latest video driver for my nVidia card but that didn't allow me to view the videos...but
When I ran the DXSETUP.EXE application located on the Vampyre game DVD that did the trick; now I can see and hear the cut scenes.

Thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction.

That was going to be my suggestion as danyboy was having the same problem on his Vista. When he ran the DXSETUP, then he could see the cut scenes. Glad you got it sorted out as it's a great game!

I may have spoken too soon. I still get the cut scenes but now I'm getting a "main.exe" error every once in a while and the game aborts.
I'm going to try to install the latest DirectX from Microsoft as that was the next suggestion if the DirectX install from the game DVD didn't work.

edit: I installed the DirectX program DXSDK_Nov08.exe but I'm still getting the "main.exe" error at exactly the same spot every time:

When Mona tries to hit the sign outside the dress shop with the second snowball.

I'll try checking the problem out on the Vampyre forum as soon as I get a chance; unless someone here has any thoughts.

Thanks,

Robert

I think danyboy downloaded the DX update from Microsoft. I'll ask him, but he played the game through without any errors after he did it.
What is the exact error you're getting? I did a search on "main.exe error" and it came up as a potential result of spyware. Have you run your anti-spyware software lately?

I just ran a full virus scan of my PC, including spyware, and there were no problems found.
The error message is:

main.exe has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

The game closes but there is never a "solution" from Windows.

Boy, I sure hope someone else can help you figure this one out. Danyboy said he never got this message at all after he updated the DX.

I noticed in Danyboy's post on the Vampyre site that he not only installed the DirectX update but he also said he took off the video accelerator. I don't know how to take off the video accelerator in Vista SP1. Do you think you could ask him how he did it as I, as of yet, have not been able to find out on my own. Edit: I was able to get by the "snowball" scene by doing the following: adding ink to the snoball first. Why changing the sequence of actions fixed the problem I have no idea. I did notice that after I got by the original failure point and exited the game I got the same main.exe error. If it only happens upon exiting the game I can live with that. Robert
