Hi Gamers,
I was reading the question about Myst 5.
I thought I had played all the myst games, except the ones online. Is this a new game or does it go by another name?
Wouldn't want to miss it, if it is a new one.

cool MYST V was sold, in about 2005, as The End of Ages. A few of us really loved it but it was thumped fairly harshly by lots of critics.

If all the people were heroes, there would be no one to watch the parades.

Myst V - End of Ages published by UbiSoft. I loved it! 3D environment and great graphics and sound. Beautiful!

Hi Jtiffin and Dadguy
I have to agree with Dadguy about Myst5. It was execellent!
I enjoyed it all the way through. But beware the "pedestals".
They might make you a bit crazy. Har!

If you haven't played Myst5, methinks you might not have played Myst6.
It is truely the best Myst. By a long way. And that's saying a lot.
I bought it as URU - Ages Beyond Myst - Complete Chronicles.
I have never played a better game. (but play 5 first. It's a honey.)

Alas, I have finished all the Mysts.
I've spent the last 2 yrs looking for more of that experience.
And belive me I have played some awful bombers.
(Plus a few gems.)

Suggestions for Myst-like games would be heartily looked at.

Cheers
Robar

Robar,
I forgot I did played #5, End of Ages, & I agree with you, it was good, but to me the best of all to play was URU Expansion Pack with The Path of the Shell.
I also have been searching for something with the same experience & fun.
I really hope that they will revive Myst & make more games.

Myst 5 is great. It's a bit different from the other Mysts, and a bit "out of the loop", but still contains Myst charm and a lot of beauty smile

There's definitely definitely definitely no logic to human behaviour.

Myst 5 - i enjoyed most of it except the drawing. For me that was frustrating and tiresome-could've done very well with out that addition. I also had issues with Myst 4..the timed puzzles..no replayability for me..ditto with some puzzles in Uru.. However, all that being said the graphics, sound, and story are superb. I have arthritis in hands which makes timed and jumping puzzles almost impossible for me..wish they'd offered another way to do the puzzles..and alternate route of some sort or at least an auto solve feature. But there is no doubt the games are beautiful to see and great sound/music. If it hadn't been for dadguy i would not have been able to finish Myst and the Mangree nest puzzle!

Did you play "To D'ni"?
It's the second expansion pac for URU.
As usual it was really good.

Gamenut
I have a similar problem, a very badly damaged wrist.
Have you tried a trackball rather than a mouse?
It requires a lot less effort because you're not pushing it around all the time.
I use my thumb, middle and little fingers only, and my hand rests on the device.
My arm doesn't need to move.
When you drive a mouse, your arm from fingers to shoulder is constantly moving.
Since the trackball never moves, you never have to glance to find it.
Your hand soon learns where it is and just goes there auto.
If you're interested, the trackball I use is a Logitech Marble Mouse.
Depending on how your hand works, you might look at a thumb ball device.
I use a finger ball, and find it more accurate as a pointer.
But of course it's always whatever works best...

Oh yeah, I had a bad time with the drawing in M5.
I called them the evil pedastals. And they truely were EVIL!
But, I gotta say it was great.
I always viewed it as a pre-URU journey.
Cheers
Robar

Robar...yes i use trackball!!! I have an older Microsoft one ..it has a large(LARGE !) red ball on top (wish they would make a newer one just like it with the large ball. The same layout just updated for the newer operating systems. I love this trackball...with the larger ball you can cover more area than with a smaller ball...means less twiddling! I have used this one for over 6yrs and am so very pleased with it!
Trackballs are a great thing for someone who has difficulty with fingers and wrists/elbows/shoulders.
Yes...EVIL drawings!!! would have been maybe a good time to have one of those drawing tablets where you use stylus!!! ahhaa
But i do love the Myst series..but wish they'd come out with some more but without the 'action' stuff...i was able to play the Uru/Myst online and that was nice enjoyed the chance to be with other 'Boomers! but still had big problems with the jumping..i never did get a page in one of the Eders (one with fish)..it was on a grassy ledge .you had to jump to tops of stones..and that i never could get done.. rats!..and got stymied near the end so never got to finish the Uru complete chronicles...I will perhaps go back to it again one day.

You don't really need that page to finish the game.
It gives you a rug in your Relto, but you don't need that to finish the game.

Ah yes the BIG ball. I remember mine well.
My first machine was an Apple IIe. (serial #00035!)
My second was a 386 that came with a Kraft trackball.
The ball was as big as a snooker ball as best I remember!
The ball was great, but the buttons were annoying.
When I finally got a 486, Logitech made the Marble Mouse.
I still use them on all of my machines. (the 486 is still running perfectly!)
Whenever I use a strange machine with a mouse I feel like a klutz.

It is a shame that the Myst journey has ended.
I am starting to think maybe a bit of pestering might get noticed.
There are a LOT of us out here who would grab a copy of Myst 7 in a second.
There are about 7,000 Boomers(?), and Cyan Worlds and UBISOFT have ears.
So do Rand and his bro. They kept their finger on the whole thing.
Commercially, I didn't understand why they put an end to such a masterpiece.
Perhaps if we were clamering for more they might think about it.
Myst 7. What a nice thought. I'd buy it in a nanosecond.
Ya know, I think I'm gonna start the PESTERING!
Wanna join in? No more whining about Myst.
We should make a bit of noise about it.
Waddia tink?
Cheers
Robar

I have played Myst 1-3 and am now playing 4 with 5 awaiting, they are without double the best thing I have ever come across, difficult at times but sooooo different, I was so frustrated that I couldn't get Uru to load (a bad disc I think) that I have bought one through the swap site as I couldn't find a new one anywhere. I'm so hoping that it loads and I will have another Myst to look fowrward to.

Hey Jenny...yes, know that page doesn't affect game outcome...helps dress up the old Relto..but it was one of the few things i just could not do. irksome for me! smile
My fave Myst games are 1-3. my most fave is 2. Riven. I thought 4, and 5 were quite a bit different in gameplay(more action-y)and was a bit of a downer for me...however..we Myst-people keep on going!

I really loved the Myst series so much, I recently started to replay them. I'm doing Exile right now on my older XP computer (just couldn't get it to run without crashing on Vista.)

When I get to URU I hope to get through all the expansion packs. I have the complete set, but have never played Path of the Shell or To D'ni

The newer games just don't seem to measure up to the imagination and craftsmanship of the Myst games.

I got a factory copy from Amazon. $30 cdn.
And yes, you have serious Myst to look forward to!
You'll have fun in 4 and especially 5. Spire was superb!
Think of them as basic training for the URU experience!
One of the great aspects of URU is that you can re-visit at will.
Your Relto lets you go anywhere without using gamesaves and all that hassle.
Cheers
Robar
