Tales of Monkey Island is so close we can taste it! (Tastes kinda like chicken…)

Quote:
The series will launch on Tuesday for PC with “Launch of the Screaming Narwhal,” the first of five monthly episodes. This is Guybrush Threepwood’s first new game in a decade, and it’s going to be an adventure to remember! Today we have released a new video featuring gameplay from the premiere episode, plus a few new screenshots and concepts.

For the new Launch of the Scraming Narwhal (I mean Launch of the Screaming Narwhal) screenshots, click here. For the new gameplay video, visit the Tales of Monkey Island webpage here. Bring rootbeer if you have it.

Question: For whatever reason, I have not kept up with Monkey Island stuff for years. At their website, it says all 5 games to be delivered once a month. Does this mean downloads? And, about the DVD...does that contain the games as well?

Thanks in advance to whomever can answer my questions. I want to get all 5 for that $34.95. Thanks!!

Cissy,

Yes. They are downloads.

If you buy the whole season - 5 games. You will get the DVD for the cost of shipping it.

bermag,

I'll find. I'll post when I do.

I believe the controls are just like the ones for the game Wallace and Gromit. At least that's what it says on the Monkey Island forum. Those controls were not that hard anyway. You used both the mouse and the keyboard.

Not exactly. You can use the keyboard to move Guybrush around (like in Wallace & Gromit), or you can use a new "click and drag" method with the mouse. Telltale wanted to make the direct control more user friendly for those who prefer point and click. I think it works pretty well. smile

I will let you know how the controls are tomorrow when i get home from work. It's going to be so hard working knowing the download will be available when i get home...so excited i can stay up all nite because i'm off on Weds. Wallace and Gromits isn't too bad. I find it a little irritating but i've gotten use to alot of different game controls and that click and drag sounds interesting. Can hardly wait for my first episode...play on... praise

peace!

I've been checking the Telltale website to see the announcement that the game has released -- and (apparently) so has everybody else.

Add to the overload today on their servers by clicking on this link that explains that they are very, very, very close to releasing the game! (Just kidding -- no really.)

I liked this bit on the blog entry:

Quote:
A special apology to residents of Oceania for the game coming out well into July 8th over there. Perhaps you all should have thought about that before you decided that the International Date Line was a such a good idea, though.

It's here! Tales of Monkey Island: Episode One -- Launch of the Screaming Narwhal has released. You can download it now, and after the fifth episode releases, you can get all five episodes on DVD.

The Official News:

Quote:
Arrrrr! Polish up your swashbuckles and grab your sword, because legendary pirate Guybrush Threepwood sets sail today on the first all-new Monkey Island® adventure in over a decade. Telltale's highly anticipated game series, Tales of Monkey Island, begins now at www.telltalegames.com for PC with "Launch of the Screaming Narwhal," the first chapter in an epic five-month adventure created by the same team responsible for acclaimed episodic series, including Sam & Max, Wallace & Gromitss Grand Adventures and Strong Badss Cool Game for Attractive People. The first Tales of Monkey Island chapter is expected to release for WiiWare in the coming weeks as well.

The saga begins with a heated battle involving the brave but often bumbling Mighty Pirate Guybrush, his beloved wife Elaine, and their nemesis, the demon pirate LeChuck. When the showdown goes up in flames, Guybrush finds himself marooned on a strange island with winds that always blow inward. How will our hero manage to escape this meteorological anomaly? What has become of LeChuck and Elaine? And what's the story with the infectious voodoo pox that's spreading across the Caribbean, causing Guybrush and other pirates to act like unruly hooligans? These are just some of the many questions posed in this first chapter of what will become one of the most rollicking and rip-roaring entertainment experiences of the summer.

Tales of Monkey Island will unfold over the next five months, with each episodic chapter raising the stakes on Guybrush's quest to eradicate the insidious Pox of LeChuck, reunite with his wife, and vanquish his rival. Much like the best television and films series, the story becomes deeper and more engrossing with interweaving threads building to twists and surprises in the grand finale this fall.

For more information, click here. To purchase the series, click here.
