I'm a very unsophisticated character I tend to go in guns blazing (well sword swinging ) in my immediate response to the rising panic After getting thrashed a couple of times from doing that though I do TRY to calm down a bit and execute a more strategic approach .... sometimes ....

LOL I'm not very sophisticated myself. I'm a battle mage, but honestly I mostly use magic to heal myself and use my swords to chop people down! LOL Ah, isn't it fun kicking butt and not ever having to pay for it like in RL? Cat, who's finding her inner warrior through Morrowind

LOL Love your little dog smiley btw looney. PS To all---does anyone know if you can change your character's face after you've already been playing the game for awhile? Every time I catch a glimpse of my dark elf's face, I realize I could've chosen a better one! lol Thanks gals and guys, Cat

Thanks gals and guys, Cat Yes, in the PC version you enable the console by hitting the "~" key. Then type "enableracemenu" (no quotes) and hit enter. This will bring up the menu you used to configure your character at the start of the game when you first reach land. SAVE YOUR GAME before doing it though. Odd things have been known to happen when you mess around with that menu mid-game. As long as you have a save game of your current character you're safe. Just make sure to check all your belongings and stats after you make the change. It's common for the new character to switch outfits with something in your inventory. Usually you don't lose anything, but it's a good thing to check before saving again.

The face options in Morrowind aren't all that great, are they? In Oblivion I actually managed to creat a charcter that wasn't ugly. But the faces in Morrowind make your character look like he or she means business, as though they've been hardened by life by the time they get off that boat.
I've decided to leave the main quest for a while and go visit the shrines, and maybe look for some of the Propylon indices, which I never seem to find. I'm not missing the Boots too much, but it would be nice to have a faster means of travel every now and again.
Now that my Alchemy is way up there I'm making super-duper potions that weigh nothing, so I can carry a ton of Restore Magica potions -- and that's a good thing, since my summoned Ancestor Ghosts don't cast enough magic to recharge my magic levels any more. I can wear only two more enchanted garments to increase my Intelligence score, and I'm close to 100 in that stat already, so I've got almost as much Magica as I'm going to get. Now I can start working on my other stats.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I've got a very nice face mod on, called "Vvardenfell Visages" http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=5883 . It's very nice in that it remains reasonably true, I think, to the original idea of the faces, especially those of the dark Elves, but it makes especially the Nords and Bretons a lot more attractive. Unfortunately, I only found it after i had advanced quite far into my current playthrough, and it had changed my own character from the prettiest female Breton, into not the prettiest female Breton anymore.... so now I'm going to fiddle around with the input you gave; - thanks Trail!

I finally found Pemenic (I must have previously tried every road except the correct one!), and now have the Boots. Although I've got the Cuirass of the Saviour's Hide on, and Mara's Shirt, which combined give me 70% Resist Magica, I still can't see well enough to use the Boots, probably due to the lack of natural Magica resistance due to my Sign. I'll have to make some further enchantments just for Bootwalking. Not that I really need to now that my character has her Speed up to 65, but it's still fun.
Next time I might try one of those facial mods. I'm a little leery of using one in this game just because of the bugs I've already got. So far the game is quite playable as is. The Alchemy bug is only a minor annoyance, and the lack of quick transport from Ald'Ruhn's Mage Guild is okay since I can use the Strider to Balmora, and go on from there. I've even worked out how to Sneak well enough to use that in certain situations, though it will never work properly.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hagatha, it seems to me that I had trouble seeing with the Boots and the Savior's Hide in one of my previous games. It may be a bug but I found the order you put these on makes a difference. Try putting on the Boots first then the cuirass (or the other way around?). This only occurred in one of my previous games not every replay so it may or may not work. That makes sense. I recall as a Breton with a natural 50% resistance to magic and no other similar enchantments I was able to see fine with the boots. It was like wearing a light pair of sunglasses. You should able to use those with a 70% enchantment. You might want to also see if turning your gamma setting up helps.

Yes, the only reason I tend to always choose to play as a Breton, is that I can use the boots as is - no extra enchantments needed, because of the Breton's innate magica resistance.

Hi again everyone. Thanks for the mod link btw Moondancer. Maybe one of these days I can make myself "purty" instead of looking like a harridan! lol btw---I have yet another question for you guys. I got busted for stealing and my stuff is in an evidence chest in Buckmoth Legion Fort. I found the chest, but there are two guards walking around the room at all times and I can't seem to get my stuff back. (My grand soul gems are in there! ACK!!!) Anyway, if anyone knows how I can get into that darned thing without the guards catching me, I'd love to have your help!! Thanks so much, Cat

Catbelly, you'll have to use Sneak. How's your Sneak ability? If it's low you need to find somone to train you up enough to go back and get your stuff. Or better yet, reload from just before you got caught, and get away fast. I strongly recommend you join the Thief Guild. There are people in that Guild who can make your Infamy go away so you don't get arrested. For that reason, no matter what type of character I am playing, she is always also a Thief. Regarding the Boots, I thought the problem was the birthsign, but I've just remembered that it's probably because I'm playing a High Elf. She has, I think, 50% weakness to magica, fire, frost, etc., so with the Cuirass and Mara's shirt she's still only 20% up on Magica Resistance, not 70%. That's the downside to playing a High Elf Mage under the sign of the Atronach -- lots of firepower, but earlier in the game, before I had the Cuirass, I couldn't go near anything that cast elemental magic. Meh, Boots, Shmoots. I can do without them. Edit...On another note, I wanted to get the free Daggerfall download from the Bethesda site but the link is broken. Has this been the case for a while, or just a temporary thing? Has anyone downloaded Daggerfall yet?

Catbelly, as Hagatha mentioned Sneak is the only way you'll be able to get that stuff back other than going back to an earlier save (always rotate a save or three so you don't lose too much headway in a case like this). If your sneak isn't that high and you don't have the cash to train it up you can also try a Chameleon spell if your Illusion skill is high enough or if you have a Chameleon enchanted item(s). You should be up to at least 80% if the guards are very close by. Also, don't think that just because their back is turned they can't see you. Rely on the sneak indicator that looks like a hand stealing a bag. If that isn't showing then don't try to steal it back. Also, make a save game just before you make the attempt. There have been many, many times that I have been caught in the act because the sneak indicator switches off right as I'm snatching the item... Don't try Invisibility if your sneak is low, the draw back to it is that it's dispelled as soon as you interact with something. That's why Chameleon in preferable. EDIT: Hagatha, I found a spell exploit that will allow you to use the boots!! Go have a spell made that is resist magic 100% to 100% for 1 second. It will only cost around 140 in gold if the mage likes you Now get the boots in your inventory and cast the spell. Right after the point the spell is cast (after the hands drop) hit the right-mouse button to bring up your inventory. Now equip the boots and drop the inventory. If you timed it right you will see the message "You resisted the magicka" or something like that and you will now be able to use the boots. The one drawback is taht you'll have to cast the spell everytime you de-equip/re-equip the boots. It took me a couple times to figure out the timing so it might take a little practice, but you'll get it. If you're interested I also know a spell exploit that will restore your magicka, just let me know

Thanks for that tip, Trail. I've made enchanted glass pants that give me 45% or so Magica Resistance for 3 seconds. If I had been able to get it to 2 seconds I could have made it much stronger, but I could only get 1 or 3 seconds on the time slider, and 1 second was too fast for me to get the pants on. The advantage is that this doesn't cost me magica -- always a concern with my character. I don't have full vision, but it's good enough. Catbelly you can also get Chameleon with potions or spell scrolls, though they usually aren't very high powered. Depending on where you are with the Main Quest, Cosades will eventually give you gear that will help with your Sneak . But your best bet is probably the Thief Guild. Balmora is the place to go. Join up, get the training, go back for your stuff.

Thanks so much you guys for all of your great advice! I am already in the Thieve's Guild, so I guess I'll just try to level up, buy alot of "upgrading" for my skills from the guild members, and get some chameleon potions and stuff---and THEN try to get my soul gems back. I hope I can---I can't believe I got busted and lost my stuff, darn it! (grrr) Still, I'm having fun w/ the game and have fallen in love with flying, btw! Wish I could do that in RL! Cat

Flying is fun! I was very upset that there is no flying in Oblivion.
I wouldn't worry too much about losing a few soul gems and weapons. As the game progresses you'll find so much loot -- and it will be increasingly better loot, too -- that it will all eventually just become "stuff." I always abandon two roomsful of goodies in the Ald'Ruhn Mage Guild when I begin Tribunal. What seems like important stuff early in the game becomes junk to drop by the side of the road later on.
Along the coast (especially the southern and western coastlines)you'll find smuggler caves. If you start to go into these at, say, level 18 or so you'll begin finding Grand soul gems aplenty.
So I've made me a pair of Exquisite shoes with a constant effect Deadric Longsword. Sweet! They weigh next to nothing and I no longer need to carry a weapon. I've also started using hand-to-hand just for a lark, and my next mage will definitely use that as her seconday form of melee weapon.
I'm getting through the Telvanni quests right now. I belong to pretty much all the guilds so I have to decide which ones to pursue. I'm getting up there, level-wise, am only part way through the Main Quest, and need to save some room for the expansions.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Me too. Now that I've run around so much of the surface of dear old Vvardenfel, I've enchanted myself a nice flying necklace; and I really prefer flying all over the show. The view is just so much better, and time just flies when you fly as the crow flies... So I've made me a pair of Exquisite shoes with a constant effect Deadric Longsword. Sweet! They weigh next to nothing and I no longer need to carry a weapon.
Good idea! I've never made a constant effect weapon enchantment before.. does it mean the weapon is constantly equipped? What do you do when you ralk to people then, etc? Simply take the shoes off first? I really must get back to my Mw once I've played a bit more of Drakensang again.

You enchant an item, preferably an Exquisite one (they have the most room for enchantments) using a Golden Saint Grand Soul Gem using a Bound "insert weapon/armor here" spell and you can usually add an attribute buff along with it. You can arm and disarm them like you normally would any other weapon or armor. They do become damaged like other weapons and armor, but all you do to repair them is un-equip the item you enchanted (i.e. shoes, ring, necklace) and then re-equip it. Just don't mistakenly repair it/them with an armorer's hammer. There is a glitch in the game that will cause the Bound item to remain in your inventory even after removing the enchanted item to which it's bound. Seems like a cool thing at first until you realize you've lost the no-repair advantage and you can never set it down or sell it, because bound items can not be removed from the inventory.

I made the mistake of repairing the bound sword -- not intentionally, but just in the process of repairing my armour. Sometimes it's in my inventory and other times it isn't. Anyway, it isn't too much of a hassle since I rarely use the sword except when I want to level up a bit. I'm now the Archmagister of Telvanni and my stronghold is about ready. Too bad Gothren doesn't have cool stuff like Trebonius did. I have, I think, one or two more writs to take care of for the Tong before I get close to ruling that Guild. That might just about be enough power for one level 40 adventurer. That's another thing Morrowind has over Obllivion -- the ability to go over level 50. Now for a Levitate item, and off we go exploring. I've lost the thread of the Main Quest, as usual -- something about those seven trials and visions mixes me up every time.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Thanks for the info, Trial. If I think carefully about it, I'd probably rather get hold of a Daedric longsword, and enchant it to make it even more powerful than the bound one - which is what I usually do anyway. Beware of my Lifedrinker Daedric sword, enchanted with absorb health! Since I had of late started to gravitate more and more towards rather enchanting items than doing the spells themselves, I had actually gone onto enchanting myself a contant-effect flying necklace. The nice thing about the levitating enchantment, is that for some reason you don't have to set your flying parameters very high in order to still be able to fly high anyway. I don't know if those parameters have to do with flying speed, but they don't seem to really influence height - I mean, what do I want to do way up in the stratosphere anyway? (Since I've got myself a nice cliffracer-calming mod, and really don't need to fly above cliffracer level anymore )
