I am replaying Fallout 3 and am stuck in Little Lamplight. I need to get to Vault 87 and I know there are two ways through this children's village:

The easy way is supposed to be through a door which an average computer terminal controls. I should be able to hack this but I keep getting a message that it is not powered up. There is a kid called Joseph who is supposed to help me with this but he doesn't offer a conversation option to power it up for me. duh He just tells me that the only way to the vault is through Murder Pass.

When I go to the Murder Pass gate (the option I would prefer anyway) The lever that I try to pull says that I cannot use this at this time. I understand that the snot nosed McCready has to give me permission to leave this way. When I ask him for directions to the vault he says he's not my tour guide. hardwall My charisma is 6+ and can't level up any more.

Does anyone know how I can progress further as this is part of the main quest and I'm at a loss what to do next. insane

Did you try asking Princess to open the gate? I believe that is what I did.

Princess gives me a flat "NO" and tells me to scram. Everyone else just tells me the gate has guards but I can go look at it. I can't believe the main quest has a dead end. I don't know what I did or said to offend these little kids. I did rescue their friends from Paradise Falls so I should get a little bit more respect. sad

I agree. I had problems here too. I couldn't get anything from Joseph and MaCready stopped talking. There are cheats that should get you past the door if all else fails. This walkthrough talks about a Rivet City guard that can help you get in:

Thank, Pokey. I went to Rivet City but couldn't find anyone in Rivet City who had anything to offer. The guards at the top of the ship are just ordinary guards and had nothing much to say. The only two that had names was a commander and a robot but I never got a vault 87 option.

Is there any way to make yourself immune fron radiation and go through the front door of the vault?

I've found that there is a very specific dialogue path when talking to McCready. You don't ask him to show you Murder Pass, you need to find the dialogue tree where you eventually tell him that's where you want to go and he'll set off running for the gate. Then he and Princess will open it for you.

I must admit that after MCReady's initial snottinesss I had no problems with the kids, and even traded mushrooms with the little healer girl. I do remember I wanted to smack Princess's face for her.

Unfortunately I can't remember how I got out of there. Actually, just yesterday I bought the disc version of The Pitt and Operation Anchorage, so I might just fire FO3 up later today. If I do, I'll try to go back to a Little Lamplight save and see what I did there. smile

EDIT: I've now decided I'm going to wait till I get Broken Steel, so I can go on after the MQ ending; since apparently it is broken Steel, that makes the ending an un-ending. I was so hoping it was one of the two add-ons I had already bought.. frown

Anyway, I do hope that Trail-mystic's post has helped you, and that you are out of there by now, Rowan.

Thanks, everyone, but I think I somehow missed or broke the conversation sequence. I guess my brain got radiated talking to that kid. I don't know how to correct it in order to continue. I may need a cheat to get passed this. In the meantime I'll just wander the wasteland.

Rowen, here is a list of the cheats:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/fallout3/hints.html

Someone on this board used movetqt to get through a door. You could also try unlock. The movetoqt may take you to Fawkes in his cell.

Ah, yes, why don't you just use a cheat to unlock the door? Hopefully that might be the easiest...
I remember that Morrowind also had cheats where you could mark off a quest as "done"; as if you actually did complete that quest, even if you hadn't. So if you could find a cheat like that, so that the game thinks that you have won the kids over to your side, that might also be a plan.

Anyway, I'm about to purchase Broken Steel. As soon as I have it, I'll play it and the other two add-ons. Mothership Zeta also looks pretty cool. I'll definitely get it as well, but a bit later, I think.

I've wandered the wastelands a bit in hopes that the Lamplight kids have had a change of attitude in the meantime but no such luck. I'm back at Lamplight trying out the cheats. I'm at the Murder Pass gate, I've highlighted the pulley that is used to open the gate, I've pressed ~ and typed in Unlock. I get a message that I need a reference. I don't know what else to do. think I'll share my loot with anyone who can help. help

Maybe you need to try the door itself. There may be restrictions that don't allow the unlock to work in this instance. How about the computer controlled door? Have you tried other cheats? There is "complete current quest", also "action" and "tcl", which moves you through walls. I've never used that one.

Do you have a save before you entered Little Lamplight?

Thanks, Pokey. No matter what I did I couldn't get through the Murder Pass gate which is the option I really wanted. However, I did manage to open the other door with the computer with the unlock cheat. At least I'll be able to complete the quest now. thanks

I've been exploring all over the map. There are 3 places I am having trouble "discovering": Takoma, Takoma Industrial, and The White House. Does anyone remember from which point or subway I need to start in order to reach these destinations? I have tried all nearby points but always run into a blocked area. I know this is a hard question but just hope that someone remembers. Thanks in advance.

I believe you need to arrive at Pennsylvania Av. to get to the White House.

For Takoma Industries you need to arrive at Takoma Park.

This may help for both:

Thanks, Trail. That map helped a lot. I was able to find the 2 Takoma places and now just need to explore there. I'll try to find the White House later.

I need help again. I finally found a utility tunnel from Pennsylvania Ave which "discovers" the White House. However, when I emerge from the other end of the tunnel I'm in a radiated pit. I can't climb out of the pit. I can't jump that high and there don't seem to be any structures that would help me get out. If I now click on the newly discovered White House location on the map I just end up back in this pit. I'm going in circles and glowing. thinkDoes anyone remember this?

Don't you just hate it when that happens? razz

Have you tried any of the alternative routes to Penn. Ave? I don't recall hitting that issue... If I remember right, there is a Seward Square access behind the capitol building (er...I think). It's not the safest place if you haven't hit that particular part of the quest line yet, that battles get pretty hot around there.

All other locations have access to the White House blocked with debris or fences. Could it be that this radiated pit is all that is left of the White House? I was expecting a building to explore but maybe there is none. I don't remember from my previous game.

That is all that is left of the White House, a radiated pit. Rather disappointing. The Capitol building is still standing.

Is this game any good with a good replay value? Since I'm playing on investing in a new game. And since I refuse to buy Hearts of Iron III, this game looked more interesting.

The following is just my 1.5 cents... lol

It depends on what you expect out of a game. There are multiple outcomes to the main quest and some of the side quests can be influenced by your actions as well.

The character development is a bit simplistic in that you don't have true character classes; rather your character is defined by the abilities you can choose as you advance in level. So you can change up your characters skills, but in the end they're still just a post-apocalyptic guy or gal with some enhancements.

Dialogue options do change dependent on your alignment and can open new quest paths, but unlike the D&D style games alignment isn't as clearly defined. Neutrality isn't really maintained through true neutral decision making although the usual stand-offish attitude does add to it a bit. You can balance your alignment by doing a certain number of "Good" and a certain number of "Bad" actions. The way you track your alignment is also a little odd if you're used to D&D style gaming. Even though they break down the scale with specific names, it's more like saying you're "Really, really good" or "Really Good" or "Good" or "Neutral" or "Bad" or "Really bad" or...well you see where I'm going....

So yes, it does have replayability, but not as much as a game that might have more character options. It is worth the play though, that's a definite.

One thing I enjoy about any game is exploration. In Fallout 3 there is a huge world to explore. In replaying I found many things that I missed before.

This sounds really interesting.

This part reminds me of the Classic Heroes of Might and Magic games (3DO)

Well, it sounds like I would get more for my money then I would if I would buy Hearts of Iron III or Project Origin.
