Sam, Dadguy is the greatest! He was so helpful and patient with me when I played this game! I had to send him a saved game many times and he always came to my rescue.

Thank you Dadguy you are greatly appreciated! :thumbsUp12:

Sam, glad it worked out! It was fun getting together with a Gameboomer in real life to work on a solution.

For those whom read these posts, Windows 7 saves are put in the hidden files area under the directory that I last referred to above. This does not mean that all games treat their saves the same.... just Myst IV for this discussion.

Here is the location for Myst IV saves in Windows 7:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\UBISOFT\Myst IV - Revelation\save\

The directory AppData is a hidden directory so you have to "unhide" it to get to the saves using the Tools/Options menu to check the "Show Hidden Files" selection.

Have fun with the game!

Thanks for that information Dadguy. If and when I get Windows 7 I will want to play Myst IV on it too! You're the greatest!

I echo that Dadguy has also rescued me on numerous occasions and I think he is the best (second to Gameboomers)he helped me learn about screenprint, he did several saved games for me and generally helped me through the Myst series, I'm starting Uru now where I now he can't do saved games for me, but when I pluck up courage to go back to the timed game I can't seem to complete, I know I can turn to him for help. :bravo12: :christmas:Dadguy

Dear Dadguy, I hate to impose on your kindness but I have a feeling that UBISOFT needs to put you on the payroll. I can't get the Mongrees off the Totem. I know what to do with the first and third wheel (according to the walkthrough) but can't do it in a timely manner. Can I e-mail you the file? Does this one really need solving in order to move on? They want me to take a picture of the square but I'm wondering if it is necessary if you have the walkthrough? Am I going to need you again on the LOCK puzzle? Just wondering. I love walking through all these beautiful scenes but HATE some of the timed puzzles. Let me know if I can e-mail. I don't want to assume you'll help me out of these messes without asking. TIA for any answer you give. smile

Hey Sam!

For some reason the mangree puzzle where you have to chime the three tones always has difficulty. Even when I do it in my steadfast, orderly way, the mangrees don't always react. My solution has always been to try and try again.

There is disagreement on what the best distinction is between a long tone and a short tone. Some say a 1/4 turn for short and a 3/4 turn for long.... but if you turn 3/4s very fast, the game doesn't see it that way.

So, I have always used a brief "bleep" 1/4 turn for SHORT and a long "rotate it three times" for LONG to get the best results. Try it here and later in the more difficult "put the Camoudile to sleep" puzzle for best results.

If you get frustrated, please feel welcome to email me the save and I'll be happy to solve and return. smile

In case we didn't make it clear, the reason we go through this email save and return them exercise is because the saves contain in them YOUR specific game progress, so we want to make sure you get the save back with the game progress intact.

Cheers,

Dadguy

PS: The reason I can't help with URU is because we can't easily share save files with that game. So, the best I can do is consult and suggest. smile

That's great, Sam! Use those methods in the upcoming puzzle for eliminating the Camoudile, too!

Cheers,

Wow! How quickly we drop to page 2. LOL DADGUY, I need input!! I have got the Camoudile nearly beat, but can't quite get him stuck in the pit. All I need is the last two moves to work. I saved, so I just need the L-1/4, R-3/4 then R-3/4, L-1/4, C-1/4. I must have almost done it because #1 Mangree threw ONE piece of fruit. #2 Mangree did nothing, so the Camoudile got out of the pit. Any suggestions other than try try again? think

That is the best place to make the save (right before the L-short, R-long tones).

The far left Mangree will throw a berry at the Camoudile right after the three tone final combo, but if you are a little slow with it, he manages to crawl out just as the berry is being thrown. No other Mangree will do anything when you play the three tone combo, so don't expect Mangree #2 to do anything.

So, reload the save and try again. It may take several tries. Play the two tone signal then immediately start the three tones. If you got him to throw the berry once, you are very close.

Let us know if you get it!

Cheers,

Dadguy

Dadguy, I thought I was getting close when the #1 Mangree threw something. BTW, before I understood that I had to reload and could not just start the wheels again, the program gave me a CLOSE UP of the Mangree reaching down for a piece of fruit to throw. What was that all about? Just wondering. Merry Christmas to all. smile :holidays:

I think it was just giving a clue that you were now in a position to use the three tone combo to throw the berry.

Cheers,

Dadguy

Dear Dadguy, I was forced (Ha Ha) to e-mail you my saved file of the Camoudile. That little sucker would fall in the pit but get out before my Mangree would throw fruit. I have tried (at least) 40 times now with no success. I hate to be a pain, but am taking you up on your offer. I was at the LAST two moves, but the timing is too short for me. smile

Dear Dadguy, Thank you for the help. I'm in the chair now with a saved game. All I need to do is pet this snake and I'll be on my way. So far, the little hand only taps the snake when I left click the mouse. I do it 4 times from right to left but so far nothing. I'm sure its me but it makes you wonder if Win7 has some effect on the interconnection between mouse input and game result. I know, I'm just making excuses, its me. lol

Naw... this one has given folks problems as well. Take a look at my little tutorial on the issues and read carefully... the details are critical to solving:

OK, here is a summary of the some of the mistakes that are made on the snake puzzle:

- It is the bottom right stripe that you must stroke

- The hand icon doesn't change when you touch the stripe.... the fingers stay the same. I had success with the fingertips touching the stripe when stroking.

- Dragging too slow or too fast will fail... be steady and calm.

- slipping off the end too far... the puzzle is fairly forgiving... you can slip off a tad, but it works best of you stop right before the end when you stroke the stripe.

- DETAILED DESCRIPTION: Click and hold down the left-mouse button on the RIGHT side of the stripe to DRAG to the LEFT across the stripe, then release the mouse button at the left end. Then do it again three more times..

- Remember, stroke RIGHT to LEFT...

- When the snake uncoils, quickly LEFT-click his head. You have about three seconds to do this.

It works first time, every time for me. Good luck and let us know if you get it!

And, again, please don't hesitate to email me a save if I can eliminate any frustration. I am happy to help. smile

Merry Christmas!

Dadguy

Well, here I am again! Tiny Bubbles, in my mind, tiny bubbles make me feel....well, not so hot. The bubble keeps breaking before I can turn left at the foot of the wooden bridge. I try to turn left so I can go forward one last time, but noooooo, my silly bubble breaks. The water guide is there waiting for me, but I can't get to him. Any ideas? Hey, and don't bust my bubble! wink

I thought this was a very hard game..however, wonderful story and great graphics and sound so i kept at it..with much thank for the help! One thing about Gameboomers..you can ask for help and be treated kindly and with respect.
